Dragon Duel Finals: Invader Oliver Tomajko VS Kyle Chen “Maximus”
10-year-old Oliver Tomajko and 12-year-old Kyle Chen both skipped the Dragon Duel yesterday and competed in the main tournament instead. Despite their young ages, both of them were successful in the tournament – Oliver won his Round 2 Feature Match and Kyle made it all the way to the Top 32! Now, both of these Duelists are back with 3-0 records in today’s Dragon Duel, and they’re Dueling against one another in yet another Feature Match for each of them! Both of these Duelists have done a great job Dueling this weekend, but only one of them can win this Match to become Sunday’s Dragon Duel Champion!
Chen started off the Match by activating Gladiator Proving Ground to search his Deck for Gladiator Beast Laquari and add it to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and then Set 4 cards to his back row.
Tomajko opened up with 2 copies of Bottomless Trap Hole, Worm Linx, Worm King, Giant Trunade, and Honest. He Set 2 copies of Bottomless Trap Hole and then Set Honest. In Tomajko’s End Phase, Chen flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy 1 of the copies of Bottomless Trap Hole.
Chen activated another Gladiator Proving Ground next turn and added Gladiator Beast Bestiari from his Deck to his hand. He Set it and then fused it with Gladiator Beast Laquari in order to Summon Gladiator Beast Gyzarus. He targeted Tomajko’s face-down Honest and Bottomless Trap Hole with Gyzarus’s effect. Tomajko Chained Bottomless Trap Hole to try to remove Gyzarus from the Duel, and Chen Chained Book of Moon to put Gyzarus face-down and protect it.
Tomajko drew Worm Linx and Set it.
Chen Summoned Gladiator Beast Darius next turn. He attacked the Linx with Darius and then Gyzarus attacked Tomajko directly. Chen tagged out Darius to Special Summon Gladiator Beast Retiari, and he activated its effect to remove Honest from Tomajko’s Graveyard. Then he tagged out Gyzarus to Special Summon 2 copies of Gladiator Beast Laquari from his Deck. Chen Set 1 more card to his back row before ending his turn.
Tomajko drew Dimensional Prison next turn. He Set it along with a Linx and passed.
Chen attacked the Linx with his first Laquari and Tomajko flipped Dimensional Prison to remove Laquari from the Duel. Then the second Laquari attacked and destroyed Worm Linx, and Retiari attacked directly. Retiari tagged out for Darius at the end of the Battle Phase and Chen Set 1 more card to his back row in Main Phase 2.
Tomajko drew Compulsory Evacuation Device and Set it.
Chen attacked directly with Darius, dropping Chen down to 2700 Life Points. Then Chen declared a direct attack with Laquari, and Tomajko flipped Compulsory Evacuation Device to return the Laquari to Chen’s hand and block the attack. Chen Normal Summoned Laquari in Main Phase 2 and then Set another card to his back row.
Tomajko drew Worm Cartaros next turn. He activated Giant Trunade to return Chen’s 5 back rows to his hand and then Set his Cartaros.
But on Chen’s next turn, it was all over! Darius attacked and destroyed Worm Cartaros, and direct attacks from Gladiator Beast Murmillo and Gladiator Beast Laquari caused Tomajko to concede.
Oliver Tomajko is unable to deal with Kyle Chen’s Gladiators in Duel 1, and they trample all over his Worms! Tomajko will be going first in Duel 2!
Tomajko opened up Duel 2 with Worm Yagan, Worm King, W Nebula Meteorite, Mirror Force, Dimensional Prison, and Giant Trunade. He Set Worm Yagan, Mirror Force, W Nebula Meteorite, and Dimensional Prison before passing to Chen.
Chen used Nobleman of Crossout to try to remove Worm Yagan from the Duel, but Tomajko Chained his Meteorite to flip Worm Yagan face-up and protect it. Chen Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh next, but when he attacked Yagan, Tomajko flipped Dimensional Prison to remove Rai-Oh from the Duel. Chen Set 2 cards to his back row and passed. In his End Phase, Tomajko flipped Yagan back face-down thanks to the effect of his Meteorite, drew Honest, and Special Summoned Worm King from his Deck.
Tomajko drew Worm Xex next turn. He Set it and then used his Worm King’s effect to Tribute Xex and destroy Chen’s face-down Trap Stun. Next, Tomajko Tributed his face-down Yagan to try to destroy Chen’s face-down Waboku, and Chen Chained it.
Chen Set a card to each zone and passed.
Tomajko drew Bottomless Trap Hole and then activated Giant Trunade. He Summoned Honest and then attacked and destroyed Chen’s face-down Laquari with his Worm King. Honest attacked directly and Chen dropped down to 6900 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Tomajko returned Honest to his hand and Set Bottomless Trap Hole and Mirror Force.
Chen Set a card to each zone and passed.
Tomajko drew Compulsory Evacuation Device next turn and then attacked and destroyed Chen’s face-down Murmillo with his King. He Set Compulsory Evacuation Device before passing to Chen.
Chen Set a card to his back row and then activated Gladiator Proving Ground to search his Deck for Laquari and add it to his hand. He Summoned Laquari to the field, but Tomajko flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to remove it from the Duel.
Tomajko drew Dark Hole next turn and then attacked directly with Worm King, dropping Chen down to 3200 Life Points.
Chen Set another card to his back row and passed.
Tomajko drew Worm Yagan and Set it. He Tributed it to try to destroy Chen’s newly Set Waboku, but Chen Chained it.
Chen Set a card to his back row on his next turn.
Tomajko drew Pot of Duality and activated it. He revealed Solemn Judgment, W Nebula Meteorite, and Worm Xex from the top of his Deck with its effect. He added the Xex to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Tomajko Set his Xex and then Tributed it with Worm King to destroy the face-down Nobleman of Crossout that Chen Set on the previous turn. Worm King attacked directly, dropping Chen to 1500 Life Points.
Chen drew a card and Set it in his back row.
On his next turn, Tomajko attacked directly with Worm King, wiping out the rest of Chen’s Life Points!
After some big attacks from Worm King, Oliver Tomajko speedily defeats Kyle Chen in Duel 2! Chen will be going first in Duel 3!
Chen started off Duel 3 by Setting 3 cards in his back row and Summoning Gladiator Beast Equeste to the field.
Tomajko opened up with Worm King, Dust Tornado, Solemn Warning, Dark Hole, Offering to the Snake Deity, and Mirror Force. He Set his 4 Trap Cards and passed his turn.
Chen Set a card to his back row and then Normal Summoned Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind. Tomajko flipped Dust Tornado to destroy Chen’s face-down Waboku, and Chen Chained it. Chen switched Equeste to Defense Position and attacked directly with Gale, dropping Tomajko down to 6700 Life Points.
Tomajko drew Solemn Warning next turn. He activated Dark Hole to destroy Gale and Equeste and then Set Solemn Warning.
Chen tried to Normal Summon Gladiator Beast Equeste, but Tomajko flipped Solemn Warning to negate the Summon at the cost of 2000 Life Points.
Tomajko drew Worm Cartaros next turn. He Set it and passed to Chen.
Chen drew Nobleman of Crossout and activated it to remove Worm Cartaros from the field. Tomajko removed 2 more copies from his Deck, too. Next, Chen activated Trap Stun. He followed up by Summoning Gladiator Beast Laquari and attacking directly, then tagged out his Laquari to Special Summon Gladiator Beast Bestiari from his Deck at the end of the Battle Phase. Bestiari’s effect destroyed Tomajko’s face-down Solemn Warning and play passed to Tomajko.
Tomajko drew Dust Tornado and Set it.
Chen attacked with Gladiator Beast Bestiari and Tomajko flipped Mirror Force to destroy it. Next, Chen Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh. In Chen’s End Phase, Tomajko flipped Dust Tornado and destroyed Chen’s face-down Solemn Warning.
Tomajko drew Honest next turn. He Set it and passed to Chen.
Chen attacked the face-down Honest with Thunder King Rai-Oh and both monsters survived the battle. Chen Summoned another Thunder King Rai-Oh in Main Phase 2.
Tomajko drew Worm Xex next turn and Normal Summoned it. He activated its effect to send a Worm Yagan from his Deck to his Graveyard.
Chen activated Mystical Space Typhoon next turn to try to destroy Tomajko’s face-down Offering to the Snake Deity, but Tomajko Chained it, destroying his own Xex along with both of Chen’s Rai-Ohs!
Tomajko drew Pot of Duality next turn. With both Rai-Ohs off of the field, he was free to activate it. He revealed Bottomless Trap Hole, Torrential Tribute, and Giant Trunade from the top of his Deck with its effect, and chose to add Bottomless Trap Hole to his hand. He shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck and then switched Honest into Attack Position. He attacked with Honest, but lost it to Chen’s Dimensional Prison. Tomajko Set Bottomless Trap Hole before ending his turn.
Chen drew a Spell or Trap Card and Set it. He was left with no cards in his hand and only that 1 card on the field.
Tomajko drew Solemn Judgment and Set it.
Chen activated Trap Stun next turn and Tomajko flipped Solemn Judgment to negate it! Tomajko dropped down to 1450 Life Points by doing so. Chen Normal Summoned Gladiator Beast Murmillo and attacked directly to drop Tomajko down to 650 Life Points. At the end of the Battle Phase, Chen tagged out his Murmillo to Summon Gladiator Beast Darius, targeting the Equeste in his Graveyard with Darius’s effect. Tomajko flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to remove Darius from the Duel, and then Darius’s effect resolved to Special Summon Equeste. Equeste’s effect was able to resolve, since Darius was off of the field, and Chen returned Gladiator Beast Bestiari to his hand with Equeste’s effect.
Tomajko drew W Nebula Meteorite next turn, but it was no help!
On his next turn, Chen attacked directly with Gladiator Beast Equeste and wiped out Oliver Tomajko’s last 650 Life Points!
Kyle Chen applies constant pressure with his Gladiator Beasts to defeat Oliver Tomajko’s Worm Deck and finish the Dragon Duels with a perfect 4-0 record! Fresh off of his Top 32 finish, Kyle Chen is the newest Dragon Duel Champion!
