Round 1: Invader Alex Reynolds VS Chaotic Javier Trejo

May 21st, 2011

Alex Reynolds boldly entered this YCS with an army of underground crawlers, pitting his Worm Deck against Javier Trejo’s Chaos Plant Synchro Deck in the first round of the YCS. The release of W Nebula Meteorite in Extreme Victory gave Worms a huge boost, but will that boost be enough for Reynolds to prevail in this Match?

Trejo started off the Match by Setting a monster and passing.

Reynolds opened up with Offering to the Snake Deity; W Nebula Meteorite; Book of Moon; Solemn Warning; Pot of Duality; and Worm Cartaros. He activated Pot of Duality to reveal Worm Xex, Evil Dragon Ananta, and Worm Cartaros from the top of his Deck and add the Xex to his hand. He shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he Set Cartaros along with his 4 remaining Spells and Traps and ended his turn.

Trejo tried to Flip Summon Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter next turn, and Reynolds gave up 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon with Solemn Warning. Next, Trejo Summoned Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress. He activated her effect, and Reynolds flipped Book of Moon to stop it and put Lyla face-down. Trejo Set a card to his back row and passed. In his End Phase, Reynolds flipped W Nebula Meteorite. Cartaros and Lyla flipped face-up, allowing Reynolds to grab a Xex from his Deck and add it to his hand. Then Trejo put his Cartaros face-down, drew a Solemn Warning, and Special Summoned Worm King from his Deck. Trejo sent Call of the Haunted, Chaos Sorcerer, and Reborn Tengu from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard in the End Phase due to Lyla’s effect.

Reynolds drew Worm Yagan next turn and then flipped Cartaros to add Worm Linx from his Deck to his hand. Next, he used Worm King’s effect and Tributed Worm Cartaros to destroy Trejo’s face-down Solemn Warning. He Set Solemn Warning and Worm Linx, and attacked Lyla before ending his turn.

Trejo activated Monster Reborn to try to revive Lyla next turn, but Reynolds activated Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate the Reborn! He Set a monster and ended his turn.

Reynolds drew Giant Trunade next turn. He Set Worm Xex and then used Worm King’s effect to Tribute it and destroy Trejo’s face-down Glow-Up Bulb. Then he flipped Linx and attacked directly with Linx and Worm King, dropping Trejo down to 5000 Life Points. In his End Phase, Reynolds drew Worm Cartaros thanks to the effect of his Linx.

Trejo Summoned Reborn Tengu next turn and sent Solemn Warning from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb from the Graveyard. Then he Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with Reborn Tengu to Synchro Summon Ally of Justice Catastor, and Special Summoned another Tengu from his Deck. Catastor attacked Worm King, but Reynolds flipped Offering to the Snake Deity, destroying his Linx along with Catastor and Tengu! Trejo ended his turn with nothing on the field, his third Tengu was already in the Graveyard.

Reynolds drew W Nebula Meteorite next turn. He attacked directly with Worm King, then Set Cartaros and Meteorite before ending his turn.

Trejo activated Charge of the Light Brigade next turn, by sending Book of Moon, Pot of Avarice, and Dandylion from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He added a Lyla from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens. Next, he Normal Summoned Lonefire Blossom and activated its effect. He Tributed Lonefire Blossom to Special Summon another copy from his Deck, then used that one’s effect to Tribute a Fluff Token and Special Summon Spore in Defense Position. He Tuned Spore with a Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron and draw a card, and then removed Lonefire Blossom from his Graveyard to Special Summon Spore from the Graveyard as a Level 4 monster. Next, he Tuned Spore with Lonefire Blossom to Synchro Summon Ancient Fairy Dragon in Defense Position, and activated its effect to Special Summon Mystic Tomato from his hand. He Tuned Mystic Tomato with Formula Synchron to Synchro Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, then discarded Ryko and Lyla to send Worm King and the face-down Cartaros to Reynolds’s hand.

Reynolds drew Worm Yagan next turn and then Summoned Worm Xex, activating its effect to kick a Yagan from his Deck to his Graveyard. Then he Special Summoned Yagan from the Graveyard in face-down Defense Position and Set Giant Trunade.

Trejo Summoned Debris Dragon next turn, and activated its effect to Special Summon Dandylion to the field. He Tuned Debris Dragon with Dandylion to Synchro Summon Black Rose Dragon and then Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens due to the effect of Dandylion. Trejo switched Ancient Fairy Dragon into Attack Position and then attacked Worm Xex with Black Rose Dragon, destroying it in battle and dropping Reynolds down to 3400 Life Points. Brionac attacked Trejo’s face-down monster next, flipping Yagan face-up and allowing Reynolds to send Ancient Fairy Dragon back to Trejo’s Extra Deck with its effect.

Reynolds drew Dark Bribe next turn. He Set Dark Bribe and Worm Yagan, then ended his turn.

Trejo drew a card and then Reynolds flipped his Meteorite! Trejo tried to negate it with Solemn Judgment, but Reynolds flipped Dark Bribe to negate it! Yagan flipped face-up and returned Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier to Trejo’s hand. But it was all over anyway! Trejo Summoned Card Trooper and sent the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. Then he removed Spore from his Graveyard to switch Yagan into Attack Position and reduce its ATK to 0. An attack over Yagan with Black Rose Dragon and a direct hit from Card Trooper wiped out all of Reynolds’s remaining 3400 Life Points!

A fast Summon of Worm King gives Reynolds the early lead, but Trejo fights back with Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier to take the victory in Duel 1! Reynolds will be going first in Duel 2!

Then Breaker attacked Linx, and Reynolds dropped an Honest from his hand to win the battle! In the End Phase, Reynolds drew a card from the effect of his Linx, put his Linx face-down to draw another card with his Meteorite, and play passed to him. (The activation of Meteorite was illegal here, as there were no face-down monsters. The Duelists did not call for a judge and played on anyways.)

Reynolds activated Pot of Duality to grab Compulsory Evacuation Device from the top of his Deck, and then Set it along with Solemn Judgment and Offering of the Snake Deity. He flipped up his Linx and Summoned Spirit Reaper before attacking directly with Linx, Fossil Dyna, and Spirit Reaper, dropping Glow-Up Bulb from Trejo’s hand with the Reaper’s effect.

Trejo Summoned Reborn Tengu and attacked with it, but Reynolds activated Compulsory Evacuation Device to send it back to Trejo’s hand. Trejo couldn’t grab another copy from his Deck since Fossil Dyna was preventing Special Summons.
