The Finals: Ally Juan Morales VS Traviis “Reanimator” Massengale
Both of these Duelists were pumped to be here in the Finals. For Juan Morales, this is his first-ever top in his 10 years of Dueling. A fixture of the YCS circuit. he’s a familiar face that’s finally broken into the spotlight. Traviis Massengale has made the Top 32 twice before, and this was his second chance in the Finals of a YCS. Both of these competitors were hungry for a win, and both of them were smiling ear to ear. Traviis Massengale is playing Debris Zombies, while Juan Morales is running Birdman Tengu. With a ton of handshakes, fistbumps, and laughs, both competitors took a moment to thank the Judging staff, and eagerly dove into the last Match of the tournament!
Morales started things off with a Set Spell or Trap.
Massengale had Lonefire Blossom; Plaguespreader Zombie; Nobleman of Extermination; Pot of Avarice; Solemn Warning; and Zombie Master. He activated Nobleman to remove Morales’ Mystical Space Typhoon from the game, and Summoned Lonefire. He Tributed it to Summon another from his Deck, then Tributed that for Tytannial, Princess of Camellias, attacking for 2800 Battle Damage. He Set a Spell or Trap.

Morales activated Dark Hole to destroy Tytannial and Zombie Master. He followed up by Summoning Genex Ally Birdman, and attacked with it. He Set a Spell or Trap.
Massengale drew Solemn Judgment. He Sumoned Plaguespreader Zombie, and activated Creature Swap to trade Plaguespreader for Birdman – Morales immediately conceded. “That was interesting,” remarked Morales. “I wasn’t expecting that.”
Traviis Massengale plays an aggressive early game, and when Juan Morales fights back, Creature Swap seals the first Duel! In a format where so many Decks place nothing but single, big monsters on the field, Swap can be an incredible card. But sometimes, just taking something like Birdman is enough to get the job done. Morales would open the second Duel.
He started with Pot of Duality, revealing Reborn Tengu, Monster Reborn, and Solemn Warning. He added Warning to his hand and shuffled the rest back. Morales then Set a monster, and Set 2 cards to his back row.
This time Massengale had Solemn Warning; Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter; Goblin Zombie; Spirit Reaper; Tytannial, Princess of Camellias; and Monster Reborn. He Set Warning and Ryko.
Morales Flip Summoned D.D. Warrior Lady, and attacked into Ryko: Massengale destroyed Morales’ Warning with Ryko, sending Debris Dragon, Dimensional Prison, and Creature Swap to his Graveyard. Morales flipped another Duality, this time revealing D.D. Warrior Lady and 2 Reborn Tengu: he took Tengu, and Normal Summoned Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress: Massengale negated the Summon with Solemn Warning, rather than lose it to Lyla’s effect and see Morales fill his Graveyard. Morales ended.
Massengale drew Nobleman of Crossout. He activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Lyla, then Summoned Spirit Reaper. He attacked with Lyla into D.D. Warrior Lady. The Lady was destroyed: Morales didn’t remove Lyla from the game with the Lady’s effect. Spirit Reaper made a direct attack, and Morales was forced to discard Chaos Sorcerer. In the End Phase, Massengale sent Torrential Tribute, Solemn Warning, and Debris Dragon to his Graveyard with Lyla.
Morales Summoned Reborn Tengu, then bounced it back to his hand to Special Summon Genex Ally Birdman. He Special Summoned another Tengu in Attack Position, and attacked Lyla with Birdman to destroy her. Tengu then made an attack on Reaper, dropping Massengale to 4400 Life Points. Morales Tuned Birdman to Tengu, Synchro Summoning Black Rose Dragon and using its effect to destroy Spirit Reaper and itself. Morales then Special Summoned his last Tengu from his Deck, and Set a card.
Massengale removed Morales’ Mystical Space Typhoon with Nobleman of Extermination, then Set a monster, and Set a Spell or Trap.
Morales Summoned Banisher of the Radiance, attacking to remove Massengale’s Set Goblin Zombie. Tengu made a direct attack.
Massengale drew Dark Hole! He activated it to destroy Tengu and Banisher.
Morales Normal Summoned his remaining Tengu and attacked, lowering Massengale to 1000 Life Points.
Massengale Summoned Lonefire Blossom, Tributing it for another, and Tributing that for Dandylion in Defense Position. Morales Summoned D.D. Warrior Lady next turn, attacking to remove Dandylion and striking for game with Tengu!
Juan Morales battles back, using all sorts of Tengu tricks and multiple D.D. Warrior Ladies to take the second Duel! The victor of the next Duel would win the entire tournament.
Massengale opened with a hand of Super-Nimble Mega Hamster; Card Trooper; Pyramid Turtle; Debris Dragon; Glow-Up Bulb; and Pot of Avarice. He Set Hamster.
Morales Summoned Card Trooper, sending Royal Oppression, D.D. Warrior Lady, and Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo to the Graveyard. Trooper ran over Hamster, and Massengale Special Summoned Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter from his Deck in face-down Defense Position.
Massengale drew Mystical Space Typhoon. He Flip Summoned Ryko, destroying Trooper and sending Seven Tools of the Bandit, Pyramid Turtle, and Nobleman of Extermination to the Graveyard. He Summoned his own Trooper, sending Dimensional Prison, Dark Hole, and Creature Swap to the Graveyard to boost its ATK. Trooper and Ryko both attacked, and Massengale Set Mystical Space Typhoon.
Morales activated his own Typhoon, destroying Massengale’s. He Summoned Reborn Tengu, returned it to his hand, and Special Summoned Genex Ally Birdman. That got him another Tengu, and he attacked over Trooper with Birdman: Massengale drew Lonefire with Trooper’s effect. Tengu attacked over Ryko, and Morales ended.
Massengale drew Goblin Zombie. Massengale Summoned Lonefire Blossom; Tributed it for another; and brought out Tytannial, Princess of Camellias. He activated Pot of Avarice, shuffling back 2 Lonefires; Pyramid Turtle; Hamster; and Ryko to draw Charge of the Light Brigade and Solemn Judgment. Tytannial attacked to destroy Birdman, and Massengale Set Charge and Judgment.
Morales turned Tengu to Defense Position, Set a monster, and Set a Spell or Trap.
Massengale drew Book of Moon and Summoned Debris Dragon, bringing up Card Trooper to pay the cost of its effect: he sent Lonefire, Giant Trunade, and Monster Reborn to his Graveyard. He Tuned Debris Dragon to Trooper, Synchro Summoned Black Rose Dragon, and turned Tengu to Attack Position with Black Rose’s effect. He attacked over it with Tytannial. Black Rose didn’t attack, and Massengale Set Book to finish his turn.
Morales passed.
Massengale drew Zombie Master. He Summoned Glow-Up Bulb and Tuned it to Black Rose Dragon for Scrap Dragon. He used its effect to destroy Morales’ monster and his own back row card, and when Morales responded with Bottomless Trap Hole to try and remove Scrap Dragon, Massengale had Solemn Judgment to negate it! Morales lost his Set Fossil Dyna, and Scrap Dragon and Tytannial, Princess of Camellias attacked to finish the Duel, the Match, and the tournament!
Traviis Massengale is the winner of YCS Orlando!
