Round 10 Feature Match: Tombkeeper Paul Clarke vs. Astro Paul Levitin
Paul Levitin and Paul Clarke are both 7-1-1 in the tournament. The winner of this Match will end the Swiss rounds of the tournament with an 8-1-1 record and a guaranteed spot in the Top 32. The other Duelist will finish with a 7-2-1 record and fall short of the Top 32 cutoff. Levitin is using a Fairy Deck based around the new monsters in the Lost Sanctuary Structure Deck, and Clarke is running Gravekeepers. Both Duelists will be trying their hardest to win this Match, knowing that their spot on the Top 32 depends on the outcome.
Clarke started off the Match by Setting a monster and 4 cards to his back row.
Levitin opened up with Archlord Kristya, Genex Ally Birdman, Honest, Royal Decree, Cards from the Sky, and The Agent of Mystery – Earth. He activated Cards from the Sky by banishing Archlord Kristya from his hand, and drew Forbidden Chalice and Master Hyperion from his Deck. Then he tried to Normal Summon Earth, and Clarke flipped Solemn Warning to negate its Summon at the cost of 2000 Life Points. Levitin flipped Royal Decree and Forbidden Chalice before ending his turn.
Clarke Flip Summoned his face-down Gravekeeper’s Spy next turn, using its effect to Special Summon Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from his Deck in Attack Position. Next, he activated Necrovalley. Clarke attacked directly with his Spy and Recruiter before ending his turn. In Clarke’s End Phase, Levitin flipped Royal Decree.
Levitin drew another copy of Master Hyperion next turn. He Set Honest and then ended his turn.
Clarke attacked the face-down Honest with Gravekeeper’s Spy and lost 200 Life Points. He switched his Recruiter into Defense Position and then passed.
Levitin drew Mystical Shine Ball next turn. He returned Honest to his hand to Special Summon Birdman, then Normal Summoned Honest. He Tuned Honest with Birdman to Synchro Summon Black Rose Dragon and activated its effect! Clarke’s Mirror Force, Seven Tools of the Bandit, Dimensional Prison, Compulsory Evacuation Device, Necrovalley, Gravekeeper’s Recruiter, and Gravekeeper’s Spy were destroyed, and Levitin lost his Black Rose Dragon, Royal Decree, and face-down Forbidden Chalice. Clarke grabbed another copy of Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from his Deck with the effect of the one destroyed by Black Rose Dragon. Next, Levitin removed The Agent of Mystery – Earth from his Graveyard to Special Summon Master Hyperion, and attacked directly with it to drop Clarke down to 3100 Life Points.
Clarke Set a card to each zone and passed.
Levitin drew The Agent of Creation – Venus next turn. He Summoned it to the field and paid 1500 Life Points to Special Summon 2 Mystical Shine Balls from his Deck and another one from his hand, all in Attack Position. Master Hyperion attacked and destroyed Clarke’s face-down Gravekeeper’s Spy, and Clarke used its Flip Effect to Special Summon another Spy in face-up Defense Position. Levitin’s other 4 monsters couldn’t destroy the Spy!
Clarke discarded Gravekeeper’s Commandant on his next turn to search his Deck for a copy of Necrovalley to add to his hand. He activated it and then Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter. He used Recruiter to attack and destroy Venus and then ended his turn.
Levitin drew Darklord Desire next turn! He Tributed a Mystical Shine Ball to Summon it and Clarke conceded, bound to be taken down by Desire and Hyperion!
A huge play with Black Rose Dragon and Royal Decree allows Paul Levitin to win the first Duel! Paul Clarke will be going first in Duel 2!
Clarke started off Duel 2 by activating Necrovalley and Setting 2 cards to his back row.
Levitin opened up with Breaker the Magical Warrior, The Agent of Mystery – Earth, The Agent of Creation – Venus, Mystical Shine Ball, Forbidden Chalice, and Royal Decree. He tried to Normal Summon Earth, and Clarke flipped Solemn Warning, giving up 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Levitin Set Forbidden Chalice and Royal Decree before ending his turn.
Clarke Flip Summoned Gravekeeper’s Spy next turn and used its effect to Special Summon Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from his Deck in Attack Position. Then he Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant. Descendant, Spy, and Recruiter attacked directly, dropping Levitin down to 2600 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Clarke Tributed a Recruiter to try to destroy Levitin’s face-down Royal Decree, and Levitin flipped his Forbidden Chalice to negate the Descendant’s effect. Clarke searched his Deck for another Recruiter with the effect of the one he Tributed.
Levitin drew Pot of Duality next turn. He activated it to reveal Book of Moon, Royal Decree, and The Agent of Miracles – Jupiter from the top of his Deck, and chose to add the Book of Moon to his hand. He shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, Levitin Normal Summoned Breaker and removed its Spell Counter to destroy Necrovalley. Breaker attacked and destroyed Gravekeeper’s Descendant. Levitin Set Book of Moon before ending his turn.
Clarke pitched Gravekeeper’s Commandant from his hand next turn and searched his Deck for another copy of Necrovalley. He activated it, and then Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter. Gravekeeper’s Spy attacked and destroyed Breaker, and then Gravekeeper’s Recruiter attacked directly, dropping Levitin down to 800 Life Points.
Levitin drew Cyber Dragon next turn! He Special Summoned it to attack and destroy Gravekeeper’s Spy. In Main Phase 2, Levitin Set Mystical Shine Ball.
Clarke attacked the Shine Ball with his Recruiter, then Set a card to each zone.
Levitin drew Forbidden Chalice and Set it.
Clarke flipped Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo next turn, and Levitin flipped Forbidden Chalice to negate its effect and protect his Cyber Dragon. Clarke switched his Recruiter to Defense Position and then Set a monster.
Levitin drew and activated Nobleman of Crossout next turn to remove Clarke’s face-down Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo from the Duel. Next, he attacked the on-field Fossil Dyna with Cyber Dragon. Clarke flipped Dimensional Prison to try to remove it from the Duel, and when Levitin flipped Royal Decree to try to negate it, Clarke flipped another Dimensional Prison to banish the Cyber Dragon! Levitin Set Venus in Main Phase 2 before ending his turn.
Clarke Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh next turn, and with only 800 Life Points remaining, Levitin conceded!
Paul Clarke maintains steady control with his Gravekeeper’s in Duel 2 to slowly wipe out Paul Levitin’s Life Points! Levitin will be going first in Duel 3!
Levitin opened up with Forbidden Chalice, Dark Hole, Master Hyperion, Archlord Kristya, Honest, and Genex Ally Birdman. He Set Forbidden Chalice and ended his turn.
Clarke Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter and then pitched a Gravekeeper’s Commandant from his hand to grab a Necrovalley. He Set 2 cards to his back row and activated Necrovalley. He followed up by activating Royal Tribute, forcing Levitin to discard all 4 monsters from his hand, leaving him only with Dark Hole in his hand and a Forbidden Chalice face-down! Clarke discarded a Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo due to the effect of Royal Tribute. Clarke attacked with Gravekeeper’s Recruiter to drop Levitin down to 6300 Life Points and then ended his turn.
Levitin drew Enemy Controller next turn. He Set it and passed.
Clarke drew another Gravekeeper’s Recruiter and Summoned it. He attacked directly with both Recruiters to drop Levitin down to 2900 Life Points.
Levitin drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn. He activated Dark Hole to destroy both Recruiters, allowing Clarke to add another Recruiter and a Gravekeeper’s Assailant from his Deck to his hand with his Recruiters’ effects. Levitin Set Mystical Space Typhoon before ending his turn.
Clarke Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter next turn and attacked directly with it, dropping Levitin down to 1200 Life Points.
Levitin drew Cards from the Sky next turn and Set it.
Clarke attacked in an attempt to finish the Duel with Gravekeeper’s Recruiter on his next turn, and Levitin flipped Enemy Controller to block the attack, by switching the Recruiter into Defense Position.
Levitin drew Herald of Orange Light next turn. He flipped Cards from the Sky to banish it and draw Breaker the Magical Warrior and Pot of Duality from the top of his Deck. Next, he activated Pot of Duality, revealing Genex Ally Birdman, Breaker, and Smashing Ground from the top of his Deck. He added the Breaker to his hand and Normal Summoned it. Levitin removed its Spell Counter to destroy Necrovalley and then ended his turn.
Clarke activated Dark Hole next turn, destroying his own Recruiter and Levitin’s Breaker. He searched his Deck for a copy of Gravekeeper’s Descendant to add to his hand with the effect of his Recruiter. Next, Clarke Normal Summoned the Descendant and activated Necrovalley. A direct attack from Gravekeeper’s Descendant finished the Duel by wiping out Levitin’s last 1200 Life Points!
Paul Clarke is moving on to the Top 32!
