Round 5 Feature Match: Astro Marc Hahn vs. Botanist Willie Newsome
Willie Newsome and Marc Hahn are both 4-0 in the tournament with vastly different strategies. Newsome is running a standard Plant Synchro Deck, but his opponent is running a planetary Deck that’s focused on Special Summoning big monsters with Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen and Miraculous Descent. Hahn may be able to overwhelm Newsome with his monsters if he can Summon Archlord Kristya, Master Hyperion, or Tethys, Goddess of Light early enough.
Hahn opened up with Tethys, The Sanctuary in the Sky, Master Hyperion, Cards from the Sky, Return from the Different Dimension, and Pot of Duality. He activated Pot of Duality to grab a Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen from the top of his Deck and shuffle the other 2 revealed cards back into his Deck. Then he used Cards from the Sky to banish Tethys from his hand and draw Monster Reborn and Dimensional Alchemist. He Summoned the Alchemist and used its effect to banish Dark Hole from the top of his Deck. He Set Monster Reborn and Return from the Different Dimension before activating The Sanctuary in the Sky and ending his turn.
Newsome activated Charge of the Light Brigade by sending Torrential Tribute, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Dark Hole from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard, and searched his Deck for a copy of Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter to add to his hand. Then he Set Ryko and ended his turn.
Hahn drew another copy of Dimensional Alchemist next turn. He Summoned it to the field and then used the effects of both of his Alchemists to banish Cards from the Sky and Master Hyperion from the top of his Deck. One Alchemist attacked Newsome’s face-down Ryko, and it flipped up to destroy Newsome’s face-down Monster Reborn. Ryko’s effect also sent another Ryko, a Lonefire Blossom, and a Solemn Judgment from the top of Newsome’s Deck to his Graveyard. Next, Hahn attacked directly with his other Alchemist to drop Newsome down to 6200 Life Points.
Newsome Summoned Reborn Tengu and attacked over Alchemist, allowing Hahn to add Master Hyperion to his hand from his banished pile. The Sanctuary in the Sky absorbed the damage.
Hahn drew Hecatrice next turn, and discarded it to grab Valhalla from his Deck. Then he banished Fiendish Chain from the top of his Deck to boost his Alchemist to 1800 ATK, and attacked over Newsome’s Tengu, allowing Newsome to Special Summon another copy from his Deck. Hahn Set Valhalla in Main Phase 2 and then ended his turn.
Newsome attacked Dimensional Alchemist with his Tengu again, and this time, Hahn added Tethys to his hand when it was destroyed.
Hahn drew The Agent of Mystery – Earth next turn. Then he flipped his Valhalla and activated its effect to Special Summon Master Hyperion from his hand. He banished Hecatrice from his Graveyard to try to destroy Tengu, but Newsome pitched Effect Veiler to negate Hyperion’s effect. Next, Hahn Normal Summoned Earth and activated its effect to add a copy of The Agent of Miracles – Jupiter to his hand. He banished Earth to Special Summon another Master Hyperion from his hand, and then banished Dimensional Alchemist from his Graveyard to destroy Reborn Tengu with Hyperion’s effect. Newsome Special Summoned another Tengu from his Deck with his fallen Tengu’s effect. Next, Hahn banished another Dimensional Alchemist from his Graveyard to destroy Newsome’s face-down Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter. (Since The Sanctuary in the Sky was on the field, he was able to use his Hyperion’s effect twice.) Next, Hahn flipped Return from the Different Dimension and paid 4000 Life Points to Special Summon The Agent of Mystery – Earth and 2 copies of Dimensional Alchemist back to the field. He used his Alchemists to banish Jupiter and Solemn Judgment from the top of his Deck, giving each of them 500 ATK. Earth attacked and destroyed the Tengu, and then direct attacks from both Alchemists and 2 copies of Master Hyperion wiped out Newsome’s 6100 Life Points!
