Christopher Csikortos is undefeated at Table 1, piloting his Tengu Synchro Deck. But his opponent Wilson Tsang is also undefeated, and he’s playing a strategy we’ve never seen in a YCS: a Tengu Synchro variant that packs Destiny Hero – Malicious, Locomotion R-Genex, and a bunch of WATER monsters.

Tsang started the Match with a hand of Enemy Controller, Mystical Space Typhoon, Reborn Tengu, Dandylion, and 2 Lonefire Blossoms. He Set Controller, Typhoon, and Dandylion.

Csikortos Set a monster, then Set a Spell or Trap.

Tsang drew Book of Moon. He Normal Summoned Lonefire Blossom, then Flip Summoned Dandylion to Tribute it for Lonefire’s effect. He Special Summoned Spore from his Deck, and Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens with Dandylion. He Tuned Spore to a Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron, then used its effect to draw another Reborn Tengu. He banished Dandylion to Special Summon Spore as a Level 4 Tuner, then Tuned it to Lonefire and a Fluff Token for Stardust Dragon. Stardust attacked Dandylion, and Csikortos Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens. Tsang Set Book of Moon.

Csikortos Normal Summoned Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite, and when he tried to enter his Battle Phase, Tsang Tuned Formula Synchron to Stardust Dragon for Shooting Star Dragon.

Tsang drew Genex Undine. He Summoned Reborn Tengu, then sent Shooting Star to attack over Zephyros. Reborn Tengu destroyed a Fluff Token.

Csikortos drew to 5 cards in hand, then Set a monster.

Tsang drew another Genex Undine. He Normal Summoned his second Lonefire, and Tributed it to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb. He Tuned that to Tengu, Synchro Summoning Ally of Justice Catastor and Special Summoning his last Tengu from his Deck. Tengu attacked the Fluff Token, Catastor attacked Csikortos’ Sangan, and Sangan got Csikortos Debris Dragon from his Deck. Tsang opted not to attack with Shooting Star Dragon, and ended his turn.

Csikortos sent Solemn Judgment, Glow-Up Bulb, and Effect Veiler from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Charge of the Light Brigade, getting Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter from his Deck. He ended his turn.

Tsang drew Effect Veiler and Summoned Genex Undine. he sent Treeborn Frog from his Deck to his Graveyard, but Csikortos stopped him from getting Genex Controller from his Deck by sending Effect Veiler to his Graveyard. Tsang attacked with Genex Undine, then Reborn Tengu, then Ally of Justice Catastor, and Csikortos Special Summoned Gorz the Emissary of Darkness! He Special Summoned the Emissary of Darkness Token and Gorz in Defense Position, and Shooting Star Dragon destroyed the Token with an attack. In Main Phase 2, Tsang Tributed Undine for Enemy Controller, taking Gorz. He Special Summoned Glow-Up Bulb from his Graveyard and Tuned it to Gorz, Synchro Summoning Scrap Dragon. Csikortos had 1200 Life Points left, and Tsang knew that 2 of Csikortos’ remaining cards were Debris Dragon and Ryko.

Csikortos activated Pot of Avarice, returning Sangan, Gorz, Dandylion, and 2 Veilers back to his Deck to draw 2 cards. That left Glow-Up Bulb and Zephyros in his Graveyard, but after seeing his next draws from Avarice Csikortos quickly conceded.

Csikortos started the second Duel by Normal Summoning Lonefire Blossom. He Tributed it to Special Summon another Lonefire, then Tributed that for Dandylion in Defense Position.

Tsang had Pot of Avarice, Genex Undine, Treeborn Frog, Foolish Burial, Nobleman of Crossout, and Dark Hole. He Summoned Undine to kick Fishborg Blaster from his Deck to his Graveyard, and added Genex Controller from his Deck to his hand. He discarded Treeborn Frog to Special Summon Fishborg Blaster, then attacked to destroy Dandylion. Fishborg attacked a Fluff Token, and Tsang ended, leaving Csikortos with 1 Fluff Token on the field.

Csikortos Normal Summoned Debris Dragon, Special Summoning Dandylion and Tuning all 3 of his monsters together to Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon. He Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens, then ran over Fishborg Blaster with the Dragon. Csikortos then destroyed 1 of his Tokens and Genex Undine with Scrap Dragon’s effect.

Tsang drew D.D. Crow, and Special Summoned Treeborn Frog from his Graveyard. He discarded Genex Controller to Special Summon back Fishborg Blaster, and Tuned it to Treeborn Frog to draw a card with Formula Synchron. he scored Lonefire Blossom. He Summoned it, then Tributed it to Special Summon another. He Tributed the second Lonefire for Dandylion, and Tuned it to Formula Synchron to Synchro Summon Ally of Justice Catastor. He Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens, then tried to enter his Battle Phase. Csikortos negated Catastor’s effect with Effect Veiler, and Tsang ended his turn, not attacking Csikortos’ remaining Fluff Token.

Csikortos Normal Summoned Spore to Tune it to that Fluff Token, drawing a card with Formula Synchron. Scrap Dragon attacked to destroy Formula Synchron, and Csikortos destroyed his own Formula Synchron with Scrap Dragon in Main Phase 2 to destroy Catastor. He Set 2 cards to his back row.

Tsang drew Reborn Tengu, and Special Summoned Treeborn Frog. He discarded Nobleman of Crossout to try and Special Summon Fishborg Blaster, but lost out to Csikortos’ Chained D.D. Crow. Tsang cleared the field with Dark Hole, then Normal Summoned Reborn Tengu, attacking for 1700 Battle damage. The Duel stood at 6300 Life Points to 5300, with Csikortos leading.

Csikortos Special Summoned Chaos Sorcerer, banishing D.D. Crow and Effect Veiler to bring it out. He used its effect to banish Tsang’s Reborn Tengu, and he Special Summoned another from his Deck. He discarded Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress for One for One, then Special Summoned Glow-Up Bulb from his Deck. He Tuned it to Chaos Sorcerer for Arcanite Magician, and blew away both remaining copies of Reborn Tengu. He activated Glow-Up Bulb’s effect to try and Special Summon it, but Tsang Chained D.D. Crow’s effect to remove Bulb on the Chain (Csikortos sent Monster Reborn from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard). Csikortos was left with his Arcanite Magician in Defense Position.

Tsang Special Summoned Treeborn Frog, then activated Pot of Avarice, sending Formula Synchron, Lonefire, D.D. Crow, Dandylion, and Catastor back to his Deck to draw Book of Moon and Mind Control. He activated Foolish Burial to send Glow-Up Bulb to his Graveyard, then Special Summoned it, sending Dandylion to his Graveyard! He Special Summoned the Bulb, then 2 Fluff Tokens! “That changes everything,” remarked Tsang. He activated Mind Control, taking Arcanite Magician, and Tuned Bulb to it for Stardust Dragon. Stardust attacked, and Csikortos was down to 3800 Life Points. Tsang Set Book of Moon.

Csikortos Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh, and banished Lonefire Blossom to Special Summon Spore as a Level 4 Tuner. Tsang turned it face-down with Book to stop a potential Synchro Summon. Csikortos sent Thunder King Rai-Oh to attack Tsang’s Fluff Token and ended.

Tsang drew Enemy Controller! He tried to move into his Battle Phase, but Csikortos activated Fiendish Chain first, locking down Stardust Dragon. That left Tsang to search for an out with Allure of Darkness. he Set Enemy Controller, then activated Allure to get Chaos Sorcerer and Mystical Space Typhoon! He banished the Sorcerer to complete Allure’s effect, then activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Fiendish Chain! He finally entered his Battle Phase, and ran over Thunder King with Stardust.

Csikortos Normal Summoned Debris Dragon, Special Summoning Dandylion from his Graveyard. Tsang thought a while, then Tributed Treeborn Frog to take control of Debris with Enemy Controller. Csikortos Flip Summoned Spore, Tuned it to Dandylion, and Synchro Summoned Armory Arm in Defense Position. He Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens and ended, taking back his Debris Dragon.

Tsang drew Torrential Tribute, and Special Summoned his Treeborn Frog. Stardust Dragon attacked to hammer 1500 Battle Damage through Debris Dragon.

Csikortos had 1700 Life Points left, while Tsang had 5300. He Set a card to his back row.

Tsang drew Effect Veiler and attacked with Stardust Dragon to destroy Armory Arm.

Csikortos drew and Set a monster.

Tsang drew Caius the Shadow Monarch. He turned Treeborn Frog to Attack Position, and attacked 2 Fluff Tokens. He Tributed Treeborn in Main Phase 2 for Caius the Shadow Monarch, removing Csikortos’ Set Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite for 1000 damage ! Csikortos conceded after seeing his next draw!
