June 18th, 2011

Luke Mattingly is currently 6-1 with his Herald of Perfection Deck running the new Agents from the Lost Sanctuary Structure Deck. His opponent, Chris Gong, has the same record with his Six Samurai Deck. This may be a tough Matchup for Mattingly, whose Herald of Perfection is vulnerable to Gong’s Musakani Magatama every time he chooses to negate a card with his Herald.

Mattingly opened up with Herald of Orange Light, Archlord Kristya, Preparation of Rites, Monster Reborn, Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands, and The Agent of Mystery – Earth. He Normal Summoned Manju and activated its effect to search his Deck for a copy of Dawn of the Herald to add to his hand; then he activated Preparation of Rites to search his Deck for a copy of Herald of Perfection to add to his hand. Next, he activated Dawn of the Herald by sending his on-field Manju and in-hand Herald of Orange Light to the Graveyard, and Special Summoned Herald of Perfection in Defense Position! He banished Dawn of the Herald from his Graveyard to return Manju from his Graveyard to his hand before ending his turn.

Gong Set 2 cards to his back row and Set a monster.

Mattingly drew Herald of Orange Light next turn and then Normal Summoned Earth from his hand. He used its effect to grab The Agent of Miracles – Jupiter from his Deck and add it to his hand. Next, he attacked Gong’s face-down monster with Earth – it was Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki! Mattingly lost 1000 Life Points and Kageki survived the battle.

Gong Special Summoned Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan next turn and attacked Earth with it, destroying it in battle and dropping Mattingly down to 6200 Life Points.

Mattingly drew another copy of Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands next turn and passed.

Gong Special Summoned Grandmaster of the Six Samurai and play was back to Mattingly.

Mattingly drew another copy of Earth next turn. He Normal Summoned Jupiter and activated its effect by banishing Earth from his Graveyard to boost it to 2600 ATK. Then he used Jupiter to attack and destroy Grandmaster, dropping Gong down to 7500 Life Points.

Gong activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Safe Zone next turn, and Mattingly Chained it to attach it to Kizan. Safe Zone was destroyed, and Kizan went down with it! Gong activated Monster Reborn next, in order to try to revive Herald of Orange Light; Mattingly tried to negate it with his Herald of Perfection by discarding Manju, but Gong flipped Musakani Magatama to negate the Herald of Perfection’s effect and destroy it! Gong Special Summoned Herald of Orange Light to the field and then Tuned it with Kageki and Kizan to Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier! When Gong activated its effect, Mattingly discarded Herald of Orange Light and Archlord Kristya to negate its effect and destroy Trishula! Gong Normal Summoned Kageki next, and activated its effect to Special Summon another copy from his hand in Attack Position! He attacked Earth with Kageki, not realizing that Kageki didn’t get an Attack Point boost when his only other Samurai is Kageki. Kageki was destroyed and Gong lost 800 Life Points.

Mattingly drew Herald of Perfection next turn. He activated Monster Reborn to try to Special Summon Archlord Kristya from his Graveyard, but Gong flipped Solemn Judgment and paid 3350 Life Points to negate the Monster Reborn.
