Round 8 Feature Match: T.S. Josh Graham vs. Astro Paul Levitin

June 18th, 2011

Josh Graham is undefeated with one of the top strategies here today: Tengu Synchro with Tour Guide from the Underworld. Tour Guide gets Sangan, Sangan gets Lonefire Blossom, and from there the Deck explodes. But his opponent is two-time YCS Champion Paul Levitin, armed with an Agent of Creation Hyperion Deck! Both of these strategies represent the cutting edge of Deck building in this tournament, but only one Duelist could emerge from this Match the victor. While Graham has a perfect 7-0 record so far, Levitin suffered a draw earlier in the tournament, and has a 6-0-1 record. A win here would be crucial.

Graham opened the Match, activating Foolish Burial to send Dandylion to his Graveyard, Special Summoning 2 Fluff Tokens. He Normal Summoned Debris Dragon, Special Summoned Dandylion, and Synchro Summoned Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier to banish Levitin’s in-hand Mind Control! Graham Set 3 cards to his back row.

Levitin had a hand of Master Hyperion, Cards from the Sky, The Agent of Mystery – Earth, Forbidden Chalice, and Darklord Desire. He Summoned the Agent of Mystery, and used its effect to get The Agent of Creation – Venus from his Deck. He attacked a Fluff Token with Agent of Mystery and Set Chalice.

Levitin drew another Agent of Mystery, and Summoned it to get The Agent of Miracles – Jupiter to his hand. He banished Jupiter for Cards from the Sky, drew 2 cards, and Set 2 more cards to his back row.

Graham Normal Summoned Tour Guide from the Underworld, and Levitin responded, Chaining Chalice to negate Tour Guide’s effect. Graham activated Limit Reverse, targeting his Debris Dragon. Levitin Chained Royal Decree, but Graham Chained another Reverse, then Chained Call of the Haunted, targeting his Dandylion and his Debris Dragon respectively! Graham Special Summoned both monsters, Levitin Tributed Agent of Mystery to take control of Debris Dragon, then handed it back when Graham ended his turn.

Levitin drew Honest. He had Hyperion, Desire, and Agent of Creation in hand. He banished Agent of Mystery from his Graveyard to Special Summon Hyperion, then Normal Summoned Agent of Creation. He removed another Agent of Mystery to destroy Trishula with Hyperion’s effect, then paid a total of 1500 Life Points to activate Agent of Creation’s effect 3 times. He Special Summoned 3 Mystical Shine Balls from his Deck, and sent 1 to attack and destroy Dandylion. Graham Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens, and the remaining Shine Balls destroyed them. Agent of Creation attacked over Debris Dragon, and Hyperion attacked to destroy Tour Guide.

Graham passed, and Levitin attacked with everything for victory next turn, beating down Graham with an unstoppable onslaught of Shine Balls!

He paid another 500 Life Points to bring out a second Shine Ball, both of them in Defense Position. He had 2 Fairies in his Graveyard. He removed Agent of Creation to Special Summon Hyperion, then removed Herald of Orange Light from his Graveyard to destroy Caius. Hyperion attacked to destroy Tengu. Graham Special Summoned another. Levitin started the last Duel with a hand of Pot of Duality, Nobleman of Crossout, Maxx “C”, Dark Hole, Genex Ally Birdman, and The Agent of Mystery – Earth. He Summoned Mystery to get The Agent of Creation – Venus from his Deck. He activated Pot of Duality, revealing Solemn Warning, Royal Decree, and Enemy Controller from the top of his Deck. Levitin took Decree and shuffled back Warning and Controller. He Set Decree.

Graham Summoned Banisher of the Radiance and attacked, destroying and banishing The Agent of Mystery. He Set 3 cards to his back row, and Levitin flipped Royal Decree in the End Phase.

Levitin drew Solemn Warning, activated Dark Hole to clear the field, then Summoned The Agent of Creation. He activated her effect with priority, and Graham Chained Bottomless Trap Hole, then Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to target Decree! Decree was destroyed, Bottomless Trap Hole banished The Agent of Creation, and Levitin Special Summoned Mystical Shine Ball in Attack Position He attacked with it, then Set Solemn Warning.

Graham tried to Summon Tour Guide from the Underworld, and Levitin negated the Summon with Warning.

Stardust attacked, destroying Graham’s Set Spore, and Levitin Set Chalice.

Graham banished a LIGHT and a DARK to Special Summon Chaos Sorcerer, and when Graham tried to use Sorcerer to banish Stardust, Levitin Chained Forbidden Chalice to negate its effect! But Graham’s last card was Caius! He Tributed Sorcerer to Summon Caius, and used its effect to banish Stardust Dragon! Caius made a direct attack, and things looked grim for Levitin.

Levitin had nothing. he Set Maxx “C” and a Spell or Trap, just trying to survive.

Levitin drew and Set Agenty of Mystery, still clinging to life in the Match!

Graham Summoned Reborn Tengu, attacked, and Levitin flipped Gozen Match to force Tengu off the field. Caius attacked to destroy The Agent of Mystery!

Levitin drew Master Hyperion! He banished Agent of Mystery from his Graveyard to Special Summon it, then banished Shine Ball to destroy Caius with Hyperion’s effect. Hyperion made a direct attack, and Graham conceded on the next turn.

Josh Graham devastates Paul Levitin towards the end of an awesome back-and-forth Match, dropping Chaos Sorcerer and then Caius the Shadow Monarch in quick succession! But Paul Levitin holds on by the skin of his teeth, and uses every trick in the book to stall towards Master Hyperion for a win. Both of these competitors would move on to Day 2. Graham with a 7-1 record, and Levitin with a 7-0-1 finish!
