Round 9 Feature Match: Psychic Nick Bottino vs. T.G. Bryan McDermott

Nick Bottino is currently 6-2 with his Psychic Deck, and is now facing off against Bryan McDermott’s T.G. Deck! This is a rare matchup to spot in a major tournament, so it’s sure to make for an exciting Round 9 Feature Match!

McDermott opened the Match by activating Pot of Duality to reveal Giant Trunade, T.G. Striker, and T.G. Warwolf from the top of his Deck. He added the Striker to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he Normal Summoned King Tiger Wanghu and Set 4 cards to his back row.

Bottino opened up with Solemn Warning, Compulsory Evacuation Device, Serene Psychic Witch, Silent Psychic Wizard, Giant Rat, and Miracle Synchro Fusion.  He Set Serene Psychic Witch along with Miracle Synchro Fusion. In his End Phase, McDermott activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Miracle Synchro Fusion, and Bottino drew Silent Psychic Wizard from his Deck with Miracle Synchro Fusion’s effect.

McDermott attacked Bottino’s face-down Witch with his King Tiger on his next turn. The Witch was destroyed and Bottino removed Destructotron from his Deck with its effect so that he’d be able to Special Summon it in his next Standby Phase. McDermott Set a monster before ending his turn.

Bottino drew another Wizard on his next turn. He tried to Special Summon Destructotron in his Standby Phase, but was stopped when McDermott flipped Royal Oppression. Bottino Summoned Silent Psychic Wizard next, removing his Witch from his Graveyard for its effect. He attacked King Tiger, but lost out to Dimensional Prison. Bottino Set 2 cards to his back row and ended his turn.

McDermott Flip Summoned T.G. Warwolf and then attacked directly with Warwolf and King Tiger, dropping Bottino down to 5100 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, McDermott Set a monster.

Bottino drew Psychic Commander next turn. He Set Giant Rat and passed.

McDermott attacked the Rat with King Tiger, destroying it in battle and allowing Bottino to Special Summon another Witch from his Deck. It was destroyed by King Tiger’s effect, and Bottino removed Esper Girl from his Deck with the effect of his Witch. McDermott attacked directly with Warwolf next, dropping Bottino to 3900 Life Points. McDermott Set a monster before passing.

Bottino drew Book of Moon next turn. He tried to Special Summon Esper Girl, but lost out to McDermott’s Royal Oppression once again. Next, he Normal Summon a Wizard and used its effect to remove a Witch from his Graveyard, then attacked and destroyed King Tiger. Bottino Set Book of Moon before ending his turn.

McDermott switched his Warwolf to Defense Position and then ended his turn.

Bottino drew Neo-Spacian Grand Mole next turn. He Normal Summoned Psychic Commander and then attacked Warwolf with his Commander, and attacked a face-down Striker with his Wizard. The Warwolf and Striker were destroyed. In Bottino’s End Phase, McDermott searched his Deck for a copy of Warwolf to add to his hand with the effect of his Striker, and a copy of T.G. Rush Rhino to add to his hand with the effect of his Warwolf.

McDermott Normal Summoned Reborn Tengu on his next turn and passed.

Bottino drew another copy of Compulsory Evacuation Device. He Normal Summoned Grand Mole next. Bottino attacked McDermott’s face-down monster with Grand Mole and used his Mole’s effect to return both monsters to their owners’ hands. Next, Bottino attacked a Tengu with his Wizard, allowing McDermott to Special Summon another copy from his Deck. Commander attacked that one, and Bottino used his Commander’s effect to pay 400 Life Points and take down the Tengu in battle. McDermott replaced his Tengu with another copy from his Deck, and Bottino ended his Battle Phase. Bottino Set Compulsory Evacuation Device in Main Phase 2 and then ended his turn.

McDermott Normal Summoned King Tiger Wanghu on his next turn. Then he attacked Psychic Commander with Reborn Tengu. Bottino paid 400 Life Points to win the battle and destroy the Tengu after using his Commander’s effect.

Bottino drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn. He attacked King Tiger with Silent Psychic Wizard and then attacked directly with Psychic Commander to drop McDermott to 4200 Life Points. Bottino Set Mystical Space Typhoon before ending his turn.

McDermott Normal Summoned T.G. Rush Rhino next turn. He entered his Battle Phase and tried to attack Psychic Commander, and when Bottino flipped Compulsory Evacuation Device to try to return the Rhino to McDermott’s hand, McDermott flipped Seven Tools of the Bandit to negate it; but it didn’t matter! Bottino flipped another Compulsory Evacuation Device after the Chain resolved, returning the Rhino to McDermott’s hand. McDermott had 6 cards in his hand with only a Royal Oppression on the field. He Set 1 card to his back row and passed. In McDermott’s End Phase, Bottino flipped his face-down Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy McDermott’s newly Set Monster Reborn.

It was all over on the next turn! Bottino attacked directly with Silent Psychic Wizard and Psychic Commander to wipe out the last 3200 of McDermott’s Life Points!

Bryan McDermott’s own Royal Oppression pins him down in the first Duel, allowing Nick Bottino to dominate with his 1900 ATK Silent Psychic Wizard! McDermott will be going first in Duel 2!

McDermott started off the second Duel by Setting 4 cards to his back row.

Bottino opened up with Psychic Commander, 2 copies of Compulsory Evacuation Device, 2 copies of Dimensional Prison, and Silent Psychic Wizard. He Summoned his Commander and declared a direct attack, losing his monster to Mirror Force. Bottino Set all of his Trap Cards to his back row before ending his turn.

McDermott Normal Summoned T.G. Striker next turn and attacked with it, but his monster was Banished by Bottino’s Dimensional Prison.

Bottino drew Cyber Dragon and then Normal Summoned Silent Psychic Wizard. McDermott flipped Fiendish Chain to negate its effect and prevent it from attacking.

McDermott Set a card to his back row and passed.

Bottino drew Bottomless Trap Hole next turn. He activated Compulsory Evacuation Device to return his Wizard to his hand, then Summoned it again and used its effect to remove Commander from his Graveyard. He attacked with the Wizard, but lost out to McDermott’s Dimensional Prison. Bottino Set Bottomless Trap Hole before ending his turn.

McDermott activated Pot of Duality next turn, revealing Book of Moon, Reborn Tengu, and T.G. Striker from the top of his Deck. He added the Striker to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He Normal Summoned T.G. Striker and then ended his turn.

Bottino drew Emergency Teleport next turn. He Special Summoned Cyber Dragon and attacked T.G. Striker. When McDermott flipped TG1-EM1 to target his Striker and Bottino’s Cyber Dragon, Bottino Chained Compulsory Evacuation Device to return T.G. Striker to McDermott’s hand so that the TG1-EM1 wouldn’t resolve. Cyber Dragon attacked directly, dropping McDermott down to 5900 Life Points.

McDermott activated Giant Trunade next turn, returning all Spell and Trap Cards to their owners’ hands, including the Fiendish Chain McDermott still had face-up on the field. McDermott Normal Summoned T.G. Striker and then Set 3 cards to his back row.

Bottino drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn. He attacked with Cyber Dragon, and McDermott flipped TG1-EM1 to swap Striker with Cyber Dragon. Next, Bottino activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy McDermott’s face-down Nobleman of Crossout. Then, Bottino activated Emergency Teleport to Special Summon Serene Psychic Witch from his Deck. He Tuned his Witch with Striker to Synchro Summon Ally of Justice Catastor, then fused Catastor with Cyber Dragon to Summon Chimeratech Fortress Dragon. Bottino Set Bottomless Trap Hole and Dimensional Prison to his back row and then ended his turn.

McDermott Set 2 cards to his back row and passed.

Bottino drew Miracle Synchro Fusion on his next turn. In his Main Phase, McDermott discarded Effect Veiler from his hand to reduce the Fortress Dragon’s ATK to 0. Bottino switched his Fortress Dragon to Defense Position and then Set Miracle Synchro Fusion before ending his turn.

McDermott drew and Summoned T.G. Warwolf next turn. He attacked Chimeratech Fortress Dragon with T.G. Warwolf and when Bottino flipped Dimensional Prison, McDermott flipped Seven Tools of the Bandit to negate it. Chimeratech Fortress Dragon was destroyed.

Bottino drew Overdrive Teleporter next turn.

McDermott attacked directly with Warwolf.

Bottino drew Book of Moon and Set it.

McDermott attacked directly with Warwolf again, dropping Bottino to 5600 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, McDermott Set a second card to his Spell and Trap Card Zone.

Bottino drew Solemn Judgment and Set it.

McDermott attacked directly with Warwolf again on his next turn. Then he Set another card to his back row and passed.

Bottino drew Giant Rat and Set it.

McDermott Set a card to his back row and then switched his Warwolf to Defense Position.

Bottino drew and Summoned Silent Psychic Wizard next turn, but McDermott negated its effect with Fiendish Chain.

McDermott Normal Summoned Reborn Tengu. He attacked Bottino’s face-down Giant Rat with the Tengu, destroying it in battle and allowing Bottino to activate its effect. Bottino Special Summoned Serene Psychic Witch with the effect of Giant Rat.

Bottino drew Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo next turn. He Tributed Silent Psychic Wizard to Summon Overdrive Teleporter and then paid 2000 Life Points to activate its effect! McDermott flipped Royal Oppression and paid 800 Life Points to negate its effect, and when Bottino tried to negate Royal Oppression with Solemn Judgment, McDermott negated the Solemn Judgment with a Solemn Judgment of his own! The score stood with McDermott at 2050 Life Points and Bottino at 1200 Life Points, and Overdrive Teleporter was destroyed. Bottino switched his Witch to Defense Position and then ended his turn.

McDermott switched his Warwolf into Attack Position next turn. He attacked Serene Psychic Witch with Tengu, but Bottino put it face-down with Book of Moon.

Bottino drew Destructotron next turn. He Summoned Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and then switched his Witch into Attack Position. Fossil Dyna attacked and destroyed Tengu while preventing it from Special Summon a new copy to the field, then Serene Psychic Witch attacked and destroyed Warwolf. In Bottino’s End Phase, McDermott added T.G. Rush Rhino to his hand with the effect of his Warwolf.

McDermott Normal Summoned T.G. Rush Rhino and Bottino flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to remove it from the Duel!

Bottino drew Solemn Warning next turn and attacked directly with Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and Serene Psychic Witch to eliminate McDermott last 1850 Life Points!

Nick Bottino moves on 7-2 with his Psychic Deck!
