Sunday Dragon Duel Feature Match: Michael Kokovidis vs. Oliver Tomajko
12-year-old Michael Kokovidis from Massachusetts is facing off against 10-year-old Oliver Tomajko from New York in Sunday’s Dragon Duel Feature Match! Tomajko is running a T.G. Flamvell Deck with Horn of the Phantom Beast in it, and Kokovidis is running Six Samurais. The winner of this Match will become Sunday’s Dragon Duel Champion!
Tomajko opened up with Royal Oppression, Solemn Warning, Mirror Force, Horn of the Phantom Beast, Flamvell Firedog, and Seven Tools of the Bandit. He Summoned Flamvell Firedog to the field and then Set all 5 of his Trap Cards to his back row.
Kokovidis activated Shien’s Smoke Signal to search his Deck for Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki and add it to his hand. He tried to Special Summon Elder of the Six Samurai in Defense Position and Tomajko flipped Royal Oppression, giving up 800 Life Points to negate its Summon. Kokovidis Set 2 cards to his back row and Set a monster before ending his turn.
Tomajko drew Dark Hole next turn. He attacked Kokovidis’s face-down monster with Flamvell Firedog, revealing it to be Kageki. Tomajko flipped Horn of the Phantom Beast in the Damage Step to give his monster an extra 800 ATK, allowing his Firedog to take down Kageki in battle. Tomajko Special Summoned Flamvell Magician from his Deck with the effect of his Firedog and then drew Reborn Tengu from his Deck due to the effect of his Horn of the Phantom Beast. Flamvell Magician attacked Kokovidis directly, dropping him down to 6600 Life Points.
Kokovidis activated Reinforcement of the Army next turn, choosing to add The Six Samurai – Yaichi from his Deck to his hand. He activated Six Samurai United next, and then tried to Normal Summon Yaichi; but Tomajko flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon!
Tomajko drew Pot of Avarice next turn. He attacked directly with Flamvell Magician and Flamvell Firedog, dropping Kokovidis down to 2500 Life Points, and play passed to Kokovidis.
Kokovidis Summoned Kagemusha of the Six Samurai next turn, adding 1 Bushido Counter to his Six Samurai United. Next, he tried to Special Summon Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan from his hand, but Tomajko paid 800 Life Points to negate its Summon with Royal Oppression. Kokovidis Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.
Tomajko drew Flamvell Firedog next turn. He attacked Kagemusha with Flamvell Magician and when Kokovidis activated Mirror Force to try to clear Tomajko’s field, Tomajko flipped Seven Tools of the Bandit to negate the Mirror Force! Flamvell Magician destroyed Kagemusha and then a direct attack from Flamvell Firedog ended the Duel!
Oliver Tomajko locks down Michael Kokovidis with Royal Oppression while applying pressure with his Flamvell Firedog to win the first Duel of the Match! Michael Kokovidis will be going first in Duel 2!
Kokovidis started off the second Duel by Setting a monster and Setting 2 cards in his back row.
Tomajko opened up with Pot of Duality, Torrential Tribute, Solemn Warning, Mirror Force, Monster Reborn, and T.G. Striker. He activated Pot of Duality first, revealing Mystical Space Typhoon, Book of Moon, and Flamvell Firedog from the top of his Deck. He added the Firedog to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Tomajko Summoned his Firedog and then attacked Kokovidis’s face-down Kageki, costing him 100 Life Points. Kageki survived the battle. In Main Phase 2, Tomajko Set all of his Spell and Trap Cards, ending his turn with 4 cards in his back row.
Kokovidis tried to Normal Summon The Six Samurai – Yaichi on his next turn, and Tomajko flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Next, Kokovidis activated Dark Hole to destroy Flamvell Firedog and Kageki. He flipped Call of the Haunted next, in order to revive the Kageki from his Graveyard. Next, he Special Summoned Kizan from his hand. When it hit the field, Tomajko flipped Torrential Tribute to destroy Kageki and Kizan! Kokovidis activated Monster Reborn next, choosing to Special Summon Flamvell Firedog from Tomajko’s Graveyard. When the Firedog attacked, Tomajko flipped Mirror Force to destroy it.
Tomajko drew Solemn Judgment next turn. He activated Monster Reborn, targeting the Firedog in his Graveyard, but Kokovidis flipped Solemn Judgment and paid 4000 Life Points to negate the Monster Reborn. Tomajko Normal Summoned T.G. Striker next, and attacked directly with it to drop Kokovidis down to 3200 Life Points. Kokovidis Set Solemn Judgment before ending his turn.
Kokovidis drew a card and Set it in his Monster Card Zone.
Tomajko drew Reborn Tengu next turn. He Normal Summoned it and then Tuned it with Striker to Synchro Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier! Tengu’s effect activated, allowing him to Special Summon another copy from his Deck. Next, Tomajko attacked Kokovidis’s face-down Kagemusha with Brionac, destroying it in battle, and then he declared a direct attack with Tengu, dropping Kokovidis down to 1500 Life Points.
Kokovidis drew his next card and conceded, knowing he wouldn’t be able to survive the next turn.
After a 2-0 victory over Michael Kokovidis’s Six Samurai Deck, Oliver Tomajko is the Sunday Dragon Duel Champion!
