Dragon Duel: Honorable Kyle Kukulka vs. 31st Century Brandon Miotke
13-year-old Brandon Miotke lost in the finals of last year’s WCQ Dragon Duel Championship, and now he traveled here from Michigan for a second and final shot at the title. But to earn it, he’ll first need to get through 10-year-old Kyle Kukulka from Illinois! This Round 5 Dragon Duel Feature Match pits Brandon Miotke’s T.G. Deck against Kyle Kukulka’s Samurais! One of these Duelists will advance to the next round with a 5-0 record and strong shot at making the Top 4 cut!
Miotke started off the Match by Setting 1 monster face-down and 5 cards in his back row.
Kukulka opened up with The Six Samurai – Irou, Black Horn of Heaven, Six Samurai United, Double-Edged Sword Technique, Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki, and Grandmaster of the Six Samurai. He Set his 2 Trap Cards and then activated Six Samurai United. Next, he Normal Summoned Kageki; but Miotke activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Six Samurai United. Kukulka Special Summoned Grandmaster of the Six Samurai from his hand next. Grandmaster attacked and destroyed Miotke’s face-down T.G. Warwolf and then Kageki attacked Miotke directly, dropping Miotke down to 6300 Life Points. Miotke searched his Deck for T.G. Rush Rhino in his End Phase with the effect of his fallen Warwolf.
Miotke Normal Summoned Reborn Tengu and then attacked Kageki to destroy both of their monsters. Tengu’s effect activated, allowing Miotke to Special Summon another one from his Deck. He attacked Grandmaster with Tengu, using Enemy Controller to switch Grandmaster of the Six Samurai to Defense Position and destroy it in battle.
Kukulka drew Six Samurai United next turn. He activated it and tried to Normal Summon Irou; but Miotke flipped Solemn Judgment and paid 3150 Life Points to negate Irou’s Summon!
Miotke Normal Summoned Glow-Up Bulb next turn, and Tuned it with Reborn Tengu to Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian. Tengu’s effect activated, and Miotke Special Summoned another Tengu from his Deck. Next, Miotke sent D.D. Crow from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb to the field, and Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with Tengu to Synchro Summon another T.G. Hyper Librarian. Miotke drew a card due to his first Librarian’s effect. Next, he activated Limit Reverse to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb from his Graveyard. He Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with T.G. Hyper Librarian to Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, and drew another card from his Deck thanks to his Librarian. Next, he discarded Pot of Duality from his hand to return Kukulka’s face-down Double-Edged Sword Technique to his hand. Miotke followed up by activating Pot of Avarice! He sent T.G. Hyper Librarian, T.G. Warwolf, and 3 Reborn Tengus back to his Main and Extra Deck, and then drew 2 cards. Miotke attacked directly with Brionac and T.G. Hyper Librarian in his Battle Phase to drop Kukulka down to 3300 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Miotke discarded Debris Dragon to activate Brionac’s effect and return his face-up Limit Reverse to his hand. He Set it face-down before ending his turn.
Kukulka drew Solemn Warning next turn. He Set it along with Double-Edged Sword Technique and ended his turn.
Miotke discarded 2 cards from his hand to return Kukulka’s Solemn Warning and Double-Edged Sword Technique to his hand, and Kukulka Chained the Double-Edged Sword Technique to Special Summon Grandmaster and Irou from his Graveyard. But Miotke immediately ended his turn, and when Kukulka’s 2 monsters were destroyed in the End Phase, he lost 3800 Life Points due to the effect of the Double-Edged Sword Technique, wiping him out of the Duel!
Brandon Miotke Summons 2 T.G. Hyper Librarians to make short work of Kyle Kukulka’s Samurais in Duel 1! Kukulka will be going first in Duel 2!
Kukulka opened up Duel 2 with Hand of the Six Samurai, Kagemusha of the Six Samurai, Monster Reborn, Six Samurai United, and 2 copies of Grandmaster of the Six Samurai. He activated Six Samurai United, then Normal Summoned Hand of the Six Samurai and Special Summoned Grandmaster of the Six Samurai. He put 2 Bushido Counters on his Six Samurai United as a result of his Summons, and then sent it to the Graveyard to draw Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki and Kagemusha of the Six Samurai from his Deck.
Miotke Normal Summoned Lonefire Blossom and Tributed it to Special Summon another Lonefire Blossom from his Deck; then he Tributed that one to Special Summon Spore. He Special Summoned T.G. Warwolf from his hand when Spore was Summoned, and then activated One for One by discarding Dandylion. Miotke Special Summoned Glow-Up Bulb from his Deck and Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens to the field thanks to his Dandylion. Miotke Tuned Spore with a Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron, and drew 1 cards from his Deck with its effect. Next, he Tuned Formula Synchron with T.G. Warwolf in order to Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian! He removed Lonefire Blossom from his Graveyard next, in order to Special Summon Spore as a Level 4 monster, and Tuned it with a Fluff Token to Synchro Summon another T.G. Hyper Librarian and draw a card! Next, he activated Enemy Controller by Tributing Glow-Up Bulb, and took control of Kukulka’s Grandmaster of the Six Samurai. He followed up by sending Gorz the Emissary of Darkness from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and Special Summoning Glow-Up Bulb back to the field. He Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with Grandmaster to Synchro Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, and then drew 2 cards due to the effects of his Librarians. Next, Miotke activated Pot of Avarice to return Gorz, Dandylion, Lonefire Blossom, T.G. Warwolf, and Formula Synchron to his Main and Extra Deck, and draw 2 cards. Miotke attacked Hand of the Six Samurai with Brionac to destroy it, and then attacked directly with T.G. Hyper Librarian to drop Kukulka down to 2500 Life Points. Miotke Set 1 card to his back row before ending his turn.
Kukulka drew Six Samurai United next turn. He activated it and then tried to Normal Summon Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki; but Miotke flipped Solemn Judgment and paid 4000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Next, Kukulka activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Grandmaster of the Six Samurai from his Graveyard and put a Bushido Counter on his Six Samurai United. But Kukulka conceded anyway, knowing that he just couldn’t come back from what Miotke did on his previous turn.
