Dragon Duel: Jack Hoyt Reborn VS Tombkeeper Abhishek Khadka

Massachusetts’s Jack Hoyt just lost Round 5 to Scrap Duelist Cole Agan, and now his life in the tournament is on the line in this Round 6 Feature Match. Hoyt won last year’s WCQ Dragon Duel Championship, and now he’ll need to win this round in order to maintain hope for a repeat performance. But Abhishek Khadka won’t make that easy for him. Khadka traveled here from Virginia and is looking to take down Hoyt’s Plant Tengu Deck with his Gravekeeper’s!

Hoyt opened up Duel 1 with Pot of Avarice, Torrential Tribute, Caius the Shadow Monarch, Solemn Judgment, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Spore. He Set Solemn Judgment and Torrential Tribute before ending his turn.

Khadka Set a monster and Set 3 cards to his back row.

Hoyt drew Dimensional Prison and Set it.

Khadka Set a card to his back row and then Flip Summoned Gravekeeper’s Spy. He used its effect to Special Summon Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from his Deck in Defense Position, and then Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant. He used its effect immediately to Tribute his Spy and target Hoyt’s Torrential Tribute, and Hoyt Chained the Torrential Tribute to clear the field! Descendant and Recruiter were sent to the Graveyard, and Khadka searched his Deck for a Gravekeeper’s Commandant to add to his hand with the Recruiter’s effect. Khadka discarded the Commandant to get Necrovalley from his Deck and activated it.

Hoyt drew another Pot of Avarice next turn. He Set Spore and passed.

Khadka activated Gravekeeper’s Stele; but Hoyt activated Solemn Judgment to negate it, at the cost of 4000 Life Points! Next, Khadka Normal Summoned D.D. Warrior Lady and attacked Hoyt’s face-down monster with it. Hoyt flipped Dimensional Prison, but Khadka Chained Book of Moon to put his D.D. Warrior Lady face-down and save her.

Hoyt drew Reborn Tengu next turn! He Tributed his face-down Spore to Summon Caius the Shadow Monarch, and used Caius’s effect to target Khadka’s D.D. Warrior Lady. Khadka flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to remove Caius from the Duel, and D.D. Warrior Lady was banished as well. Hoyt Set Mystical Space Typhoon before ending his turn.

Khadka drew a card and Set it to his back row.

Hoyt drew Lonefire Blossom next turn. He Summoned Reborn Tengu and attacked, but the damage was reversed by Khadka’s Magic Cylinder! Hoyt dropped down to 2300 Life Points.

Khadka activated Compulsory Evacuation Device next turn to return Tengu to Hoyt’s hand. Tengu’s effect activated, and Hoyt Special Summoned another copy from his Deck in Defense Position. Next, Khadka Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant. He attacked Hoyt’s Tengu with the Descendant and Hoyt Special Summoned a third Tengu from his Deck when it was destroyed.

Hoyt drew Debris Dragon next turn. He activated Mystical Space Typhoon, but Khadka negated it with Solemn Judgment by paying 4000 Life Points! Hoyt Normal Summoned Lonefire Blossom next, and Tributed it to Special Summon another Lonefire from his Deck. Then, he Tributed the new Lonefire Blossom to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb. Hoyt Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with Tengu in order to Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian, and was out of Tengus to Summon from his Deck. Librarian attacked and destroyed Descendant, inflicting 400 points of damage to Khadka’s Life Points.

Khadka drew a card and passed, with 1 card in his hand and a Necrovalley on his field.

Hoyt drew One for One next turn. He Normal Summoned Tengu and then activated Glow-Up Bulb’s effect. Hoyt sent Card Trooper from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb, then Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with Tengu to Synchro Summon Ally of Justice Catastor. He drew Ryko with the effect of Librarian, and then attacked directly with Catastor and Librarian to wipe out Khadka’s last 3600 Life Points!DDR6-Abhishek

Jack Hoyt comes back from behind to win the first Duel of the Match! Abhishek Khadka will be going first in Duel 2!

Khadka started off Duel 2 by activating Necrovalley and Setting 3 cards to his back row. He activated Royal Tribute next, discarding Battle Fader from his own hand, and forcing Hoyt to reveal his hand of Dark Hole, Monster Reborn, Spore, and 2 copies of Pot of Duality. Hoyt discarded the Spore and Khadka ended his turn.

Hoyt drew Sangan next turn, and Khadka flipped Rivalry of Warlords. Hoyt entered Main Phase 1 and activated Pot of Duality, allowing him to reveal Solemn Judgment, Smashing Ground, and Book of Moon from the top of his Deck. He added the Solemn Judgment to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Hoyt Set Solemn Warning and Sangan, ending his turn.

Khadka Set a card to his back row and passed.
Hoyt drew Call of the Haunted. He activated Pot of Duality to reveal Cyber Dragon, Dust Tornado, and Thunder King Rai-Oh from the top of his Deck, and added the Dust Tornado to his hand. He shuffled Cyber Dragon and Rai-Oh back into his Deck. Hoyt Set Call of the Haunted and Dust Tornado before ending his turn.

Khadka Set a fifth card to his back row and passed.

Hoyt drew Thunder King Rai-Oh next turn. He passed without playing any of the cards in his hand.

Khadka flipped his face-down Dark Hole, destroying Hoyt’s face-down Sangan and allowing Hoyt to use its effect to add a Puppet Plant from his Deck to his hand. Khadka Set his last in-hand card to his back row and then activated Royal Tribute, forcing Hoyt to reveal his hand of Puppet Plant, Rai-Oh, Monster Reborn, and Dark Hole, and send his 2 monsters to the Graveyard.

Hoyt drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn. He flipped Dust Tornado to destroy Necrovalley and then activated Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Thunder King Rai-Oh from his Graveyard. Khadka flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to remove Rai-Oh from the Duel, and Hoyt promptly ended his turn.

Khadka drew a card, Set it to his back row, and passed.

Hoyt drew Smashing Ground next turn and then activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Sangan from his Graveyard. He attacked Khadka with Sangan and Khadka fell to 7000 Life Points. Hoyt Set Mystical Space Typhoon and passed.

Khadka drew a card and Set it to his back row.

Hoyt drew Thunder King Rai-Oh next turn. He tried attacking with Sangan, but Khadka flipped Dimensional Prison to banish it! Hoyt Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh in Main Phase 2 and then ended his turn.

Khadka drew a monster and Set it.

Hoyt drew Glow-Up Bulb. He attacked Khadka’s face-down monster with Rai-Oh, and Khadka flipped Mirror Force to destroy Rai-Oh.

Khadka drew a card and Set it to his back row.

Hoyt drew Mystical Space Typhoon and Set it.

Khadka discarded Gravekeeper’s Commandant from his hand to search his Deck for Necrovalley. He activated it and passed.

Hoyt drew Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter next turn and Set it.

Khadka Set a card to his back row and then tried to Flip Summon Gravekeeper’s Spy; but Hoyt flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon!

Hoyt drew Reborn Tengu next turn! He Flip Summoned Ryko and used its effect to destroy Rivalry of Warlords. He Sent Card Trooper, Reborn Tengu, and Gorz the Emissary of Darkness from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Ryko’s effect. Next, Hoyt Normal Summoned Reborn Tengu. Hoyt attacked directly with Ryko and then tried attacking with Tengu, but Khadka reflected Tengu’s attack with Magic Cylinder!

Hoyt drew Effect Veiler next turn. He Normal Summoned Glow-Up Bulb and then Tuned it with Reborn Tengu to Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian. Khadka flipped Royal Oppression and paid 800 Life Points to try to negate Librarian’s Summon, but Hoyt flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Oppression! Hoyt also Special Summoned another Tengu from his Deck. Next, Hoyt sent Giant Trunade from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb from the Graveyard. He Tuned it with Tengu to try to Synchro Summon Ally of Justice Catastor, but Khadka flipped Solemn Judgment and paid 3000 Life Points to negate Catastor’s Summon! Next, Hoyt activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Necrovalley. Then, he removed Puppet Plant from his Graveyard to Special Summon Spore as a Level 4 monster. Khadka flipped Book of Moon to put Spore face-down before Hoyt could Synchro Summon with it. Hoyt attacked directly with his Librarian to drop Khadka to 600 Life Points and switched Ryko into Defense Position.

Hoyt drew Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter next turn. He attacked directly with T.G. Hyper Librarian, and even though Khadka flipped Rivalry of Warlords to force Jack to destroy his Ryko, Hyper Librarian finished Khadka off!DDR6-Hoyt
