Round 10: Jibri Thomas Reborn VS Galactic Kalvin Harrigal
Jibri Thomas made it to the Top 16 at YCS Charlotte with his Zombiesworn Deck, and now he’s back for the WCQ, this time playing Tengu Plants! His opponent, Kalvin Harrigal, has never attended a YCS before and is entering his first-ever WCQ this weekend. Both of these Duelists currently have 7-2 records, but only one of them will be able to advance to the next round with 8 wins.
Thomas opened up with Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Debris Dragon, Effect Veiler, Mirror Force, Foolish Burial, and Pot of Avarice. He activated Foolish Burial to send Dandylion from his Deck to his Graveyard and Special Summon 2 Fluff Tokens from his Deck. Then he Normal Summoned Debris Dragon and used its effect to Special Summon Dandylion from his Graveyard. He Tuned Dandylion, Debris Dragon, and his 2 Fluff Tokens together to Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, and used Trishula’s effect to remove Mystical Shine Ball from Harrigal’s hand. Thomas Special Summoned 2 more Fluff Tokens to the field when his Dandylion hit the Graveyard. Thomas Set Mirror Force before ending his turn.
Harrigal activated Mystical Space Typhoon next turn to destroy Thomas’s face-down Mirror Force. Next, he Normal Summoned The Agent of Creation – Venus and activated its effect twice, paying 1000 Life Points to Special Summon 2 Mystical Shine Balls from his Deck in Defense Position. Then, he attacked a Fluff Token with Venus to destroy it. Harrigal Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.
Thomas drew Dark Hole next turn. He attacked Venus with Trishula to destroy it in battle and drop Harrigal down to 5900 Life Points. Thomas Set Ryko and then ended his turn.
Harrigal switched his Shine Balls to Attack Position. He used one of them to attack and destroy a Fluff Token, then attacked Thomas’s face-down Ryko with the other. Ryko flipped face-up and Thomas destroyed Harrigal’s face-down Mystical Space Typhoon with its effect. Thomas sent Dust Tornado, Dimensional Prison, and Solemn Judgment from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with the rest of Ryko’s effect. Harrigal Set 1 card to his back row before ending his turn.
Thomas drew Monster Reborn next turn. He attacked a Shine Ball with Trishula, but Harrigal flipped Dimensional Prison to banish the attacking Trishula. Thomas ended his turn with no cards on his field.
Harrigal Summoned another copy of Venus next turn. He attacked directly with Venus and his 2 Shine Balls to drop Thomas down to 5400 Life Points and then ended his turn.
Thomas drew Solemn Warning. He activated Dark Hole to destroy both Shine Balls and Venus, and then Set Solemn Warning to his back row.
Harrigal drew a card and passed.
Thomas drew Caius the Shadow Monarch next turn. He activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Dandylion from his Graveyard and then Tributed Dandylion to Summon Caius. Caius’s effect activated, and Thomas discarded The Agent of Miracles – Jupiter and Herald of Orange Light from his hand to negate Caius’s effect. Thomas Special Summon 2 Fluff Tokens to the field and passed.
Harrigal drew The Agent of Mystery – Earth and tried to Summon it, but lost out to Thomas’s Solemn Warning.
Thomas drew Gorz the Emissary of Darkness next turn. He Normal Summoned Effect Veiler and Tuned it with a Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron in Defense Position, allowing him to draw Book of Moon from his Deck. He Set it before ending his turn.
Harrigal Set a card to his back row and passed.
Thomas drew Limit Reverse next turn. He Set it and then ended his turn.
Harrigal Set a third card to his back row. Thomas activated Limit Reverse in his Main Phase in order to Special Summon Dandylion from the Graveyard, then used his Formula’s effect to Tune Formula Synchron with Dandylion and Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian. Thomas Special Summoned 2 more Fluff Tokens to the field and Harrigal ended his turn.
Thomas drew Ryko next turn. He activated Pot of Avarice to return Formula Synchron, Debris Dragon, Ryko, Caius, and Effect Veiler to his Deck and draw Reborn Tengu and Debris Dragon. He tried to Normal Summon Reborn Tengu and Harrigal flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Thomas attacked with T.G. Hyper Librarian next, and lost his monster to Mirror Force.
Harrigal drew Venus next turn and Summoned it. He attacked a Fluff Token with Venus before ending his turn.
Thomas drew Call of the Haunted. He Normal Summoned Debris Dragon and then activated his Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Dandylion from the Graveyard. He Tuned Dandylion with Debris Dragon and 2 Fluff Tokens in order to Synchro Summon another copy of Trishula, and used Trishula’s effect to remove Seven Tools of the Bandit from Harrigal’s field and Jupiter from his Graveyard. Trishula attacked and destroyed Venus, and Harrigal dropped down to 2800 Life Points.
Harrigal drew his next card and passed.
Thomas drew Enemy Controller next turn. He Summoned Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter to the field in Attack Position and then direct attacks from Ryko and Trishula finished Harrigal off!
Jibri Thomas Summons 2 copies of Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier to dominate Duel 1 and gain the early lead in the Match! Kalvin Harrigal will be going first in Duel 2!
Harrigal started off Duel 2 by activating Pot of Duality to reveal Banisher of the Radiance, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Thunder King Rai-Oh from the top of his Deck. He added Rai-Oh to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He Summoned Rai-Oh and Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.
Thomas opened up with Effect Veiler, Dandylion, Thunder King Rai-Oh, Book of Moon, Mind Control, and Caius the Shadow Monarch. He Set Dandylion and Book of Moon before ending his turn.
Harrigal drew a card and passed.
Thomas drew Dimensional Prison next turn. He Tributed Dandylion to Summon Caius, and then used Caius’s effect to try to remove Rai-Oh from the Duel; but Harrigal discarded Effect Veiler to negate Caius’s effect! Thomas Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens to the field. He attacked Rai-Oh with Dandylion next, and Harrigal discarded Honest from his hand to give his monster 2400 ATK and win the battle. Thomas Set Dimensional Prison before ending his turn.
Harrigal Normal Summoned Venus next turn. He activated its effect and paid 500 Life Points to try to Special Summon a Mystical Shine Ball from his Deck, but Thomas discarded Effect Veiler to negate the effect. He switched Rai-Oh to Defense Position and attacked a Fluff Token with Venus next, but Venus was banished by Dimensional Prison.
Thomas drew Debris Dragon next turn. He Summoned his own Rai-Oh to attack Harrigal’s Rai-Oh, but Harrigal flipped Dimensional Prison to banish Thomas’s Rai-Oh.
Harrigal switched Rai-Oh back into Attack Position next turn and then declared an attack on a Fluff Token; but Thomas flipped Book of Moon to put the Rai-Oh face-down.
Thomas drew Lonefire Blossom next turn! He Normal Summoned it and then activated its effect to Tribute it and Special Summon another Lonefire Blossom from his Deck in Attack Position. Then, he used the new Lonefire’s effect to Tribute a Fluff Token and Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb from his Deck. When Glow-Up Bulb hit the field, Harrigal flipped Torrential Tribute to wipe the field clear! Thomas ended his turn with no cards on his field and a Mind Control and Debris Dragon in his hand.
Harrigal Normal Summoned The Agent of Mystery – Earth next turn and used its effect to add a copy of The Agent of Miracles – Jupiter from his Deck to his hand. Then he attacked directly with Earth to drop Thomas down to 5100 Life Points. He ended his turn with no cards in his back row.
Thomas drew One for One next turn. He Normal Summoned Debris Dragon and activated its effect to Special Summon Dandylion from his Graveyard. Then he activated Mind Control to take control of Earth. He Tuned Earth with Dandylion to Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian, and Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens to the field. Next, he sent Reborn Tengu from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard in order to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb. He Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with a Fluff Token in order to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron, and drew 2 cards due to the effects of Formula Synchron and Librarian. He picked up Dust Tornado and Ryko. Next, he activated One for One by discarding Ryko from his hand, and Special Summoned Spore from his Deck. He Tuned it with a Fluff Token in order to Synchro Summon another Formula Synchron, and drew another 2 cards from his Deck: Reborn Tengu and Thunder King Rai-Oh. Next, he attacked directly with Debris Dragon and T.G. Hyper Librarian to drop Harrigal down to 4100 Life Points. Thomas Set Dust Tornado before ending his turn.
Harrigal activated Mystical Space Typhoon next turn to destroy Thomas’s face-down Dust Tornado. Then he Set 1 monster and ended his turn.
But it was all over on Thomas’s next turn! He had 2 copies of Formula Synchron, T.G. Hyper Librarian, and Debris Dragon on the field, with a Tengu in his hand. He Summoned the Tengu and Harrigal instantly conceded. He couldn’t contain Thomas’s Synchro onslaught!
