Round 5: Honorable Nizar Sarhan VS Duplicator Kevin Tilton

July 16th, 2011

Nizar Sarhan won YCS Dallas with Six Samurais, and has been playing Samurais ever since. Sarhan made it to the Top 8 of YCS Charlotte and Top 16 of YCS Rhode Island with his Samurai Deck, and now he’s back with his Samurais and has a perfect 4-0 record in the WCQ! This is Kevin Tilton’s first WCQ, but he’s also doing well today. He’s undefeated with a Junk Synchron/Doppelwarrior heavy Deck, and now he’s facing off against Nizar Sarhan’s Samurais.

Sarhan opened up Duel 1 with Mystical Space Typhoon, Shien’s Smoke Signal, Solemn Judgment, Double-Edged Sword Technique, Kagemusha of the Six Samurai, and Grandmaster of the Six Samurai. He activated Shien’s Smoke Signal to search his Deck for Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki and add it to his hand, then Summoned Kageki to the field. Sarhan used Kageki’s effect to Special Summon Kagemusha of the Six Samurai in Defense Position, then Tuned his Kageki with Kagemusha to Synchro Summon Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En. Sarhan Set Solemn Judgment, Double-Edged Sword Technique, and Mystical Space Typhoon before ending his turn.

Tilton Set 2 cards to his back row then activated One for One by discarding Dandylion from his hand. Sarhan negated One for One with Shi En’s effect, and Tilton Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens when Dandylion hit the Graveyard. Next, Tilton Normal Summoned Glow-Up Bulb. He Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with a Fluff Token in order to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron, then drew a card due to Formula’s effect. Next, Tilton activated his Glow-Up Bulb’s effect. He sent Debris Dragon from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and Special Summoned Glow-Up Bulb to the field. Then, Tilton Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with another Fluff Token in order to Synchro Summon another copy of Formula Synchron and draw another card from his Deck. Tilton Set a third card to his back row before ending his turn, then lost Scapegoat in his End Phase to Sarhan’s Mystical Space Typhoon.

Sarhan drew Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan next turn. He Special Summoned Grandmaster of the Six Samurai and then Special Summoned Kizan. Kizan and Grandmaster attacked and destroyed 2 Formula Synchrons, then Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En attacked directly to drop Tilton down to 5500 Life Points. Sarhan activated Double-Edged Sword Technique to Special Summon Kageki and Kagemusha from his Graveyard in Attack Position while in his Battle Phase, and attacked directly with both of them in order to drop Tilton down to 3400 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Sarhan Tuned Kageki, Kagemusha, and Kizan together to Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. He activated its effect, but Tilton discarded Effect Veiler from his hand to negate the effect. Sarhan ended his turn with Trishula, Shi En, and Grandmaster face-up on the field, and a Solemn Judgment face-down.

Tilton activated Pot of Avarice from his hand next turn, but Sarhan negated it with his Shi En’s effect. Next, Tilton activated a face-down Pot of Avarice in order to send 5 monsters from his Graveyard back to his Deck and draw 2 cards. After Pot of Avarice resolved, Dandylion was the only monster left in his Graveyard. Tilton Set a card to each zone before ending his turn.

Sarhan drew Kagemusha of the Six Samurai next turn. He attacked Tilton’s face-down monster with Grandmaster, and Tilton flipped Book of Moon to try to put Shi En face-down; but Sarhan negated the Book of Moon with Shi En’s effect! Grandmaster’s attack continued, and Tilton flipped his face-down Ryko face-up, using its effect to try to destroy Shi En; but Sarhan protected Shi En with its effect by sending Grandmaster to the Graveyard instead! Sarhan followed up with direct attacks from Shi En and Trishula, finishing the Duel!
