Round 8: Lazaro Bellido vs. Tyler Tracy – More Tengu Madness

July 16th, 2011

Lazaro Bellido was the winner of the most recent YCS in Toronto and has made it to the top tables of YCS events several times before. Now, he’s facing off against WCQ first-timer Tyler Tracy in a Tengu Plant mirror-Match! Bellido’s tournament experience may give him the edge here, but it’s anyone’s Match to win.

Tracy started off the Duel by Setting a card to his back row and ending his turn.

Bellido opened up with Effect Veiler, Dust Tornado, Enemy Controller, Caius the Shadow Monarch, Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, and Solemn Warning. He Set Dust Tornado and Solemn Warning, then Set Ryko and ended his turn. Tracy flipped Mystical Space Typhoon in Bellido’s End Phase, destroying his face-down Dust Tornado.

Tracy Set a monster and passed.

Bellido drew Tour Guide From the Underworld next turn. He Summoned it to the field and activated its effect, but lost out on its effect when Tracy sent Effect Veiler from his hand to his Graveyard. Bellido Flip Summoned Ryko next, and activated its effect to destroy Tracy’s face-down Debris Dragon and send Call of the Haunted, Reborn Tengu, and Dark Hole from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Ryko and Tour Guide attacked directly, and Tracy dropped down to 6800 Life Points. Bellido Set Enemy Controller before ending his turn.

Tracy Normal Summoned Card Trooper next turn. He activated its effect by sending Limit Reverse, Ryko, and Torrential Tribute from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and then attacked Bellido’s Tour Guide. Bellido lost 900 Life Points and his Tour Guide was destroyed.

Bellido drew Reborn Tengu next turn. He Tributed Ryko to Summon Caius the Shadow Monarch, and used Caius’s effect to banish Card Trooper. Next, Bellido attacked directly with Caius, dropping Tracy down to 4400 Life Points.

Tracy activated Dark Hole to destroy Caius and then Set a monster.

Bellido drew Torrential Tribute next turn. He Normal Summoned Reborn Tengu and attacked Tracy’s face-down monster with it – it was a Debris Dragon. Debris Dragon survived the battle and Bellido lost 300 Life Points. Bellido Set Torrential Tribute before ending his turn.

Tracy tried to Normal Summon Lonefire Blossom next turn, but Bellido stopped it in its tracks with Solemn Warning.

Bellido drew Foolish Burial. He activated it to send Dandylion from his Deck to his Graveyard, and Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens with Dandylion’s effect. Next, he Normal Summoned Effect Veiler. Bellido Tuned Effect Veiler with Reborn Tengu in order to Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian, then used his Tengu’s effect to Special Summon another copy from his Deck. Next, he flipped his face-down Enemy Controller and Tributed Reborn Tengu to take control of Debris Dragon. Tracy instantly conceded with 4400 Life Points remaining, knowing that he would be defeated by Bellido’s upcoming field of Iron Chain Dragon, T.G. Hyper Librarian, and Reborn Tengu.

Lazaro Bellido maintains total control in Duel 1 to take a swift victory over Tyler Tracy. Tracy will be going first in Duel 2!

Tracy started off Duel 2 by Setting a card to each zone.

Bellido opened up with Call of the Haunted, Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Effect Veiler, Lonefire Blossom, Pot of Avarice, and Solemn Judgment. He Set Ryko, Solemn Judgment, and Call of the Haunted before passing right back to Tracy.

Tracy Set a monster and passed.

Bellido drew Enemy Controller and then Flip Summoned Ryko. He activated its effect to destroy the Book of Moon in Tracy’s back row, then sent Mystical Space Typhoon, Debris Dragon, and Limit Reverse from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Ryko’s effect. Next, Bellido Normal Summoned Lonefire Blossom and Tributed it to Special Summon Dandylion from his Deck in Defense Position. Then he activated Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Lonefire Blossom from his Graveyard, and Tributed Lonefire to Special Summon another Lonefire from his Deck in Defense Position. Next, Bellido used the new Lonefire’s effect to Tribute Dandylion and Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb from his Deck. Bellido Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens in Defense Position due to the effect of Dandylion. Bellido Tuned a Glow-Up Bulb with a Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron next, and drew a card with his Formula’s effect. Then, he sent Spore from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard in order to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb back to the field. Bellido Tuned Formula Synchron with Lonefire Blossom to Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian, then Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with a Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron. He drew 1 card from the effect of Formula Synchron, and another card due to the effect of T.G. Hyper Librarian. Next, Bellido Tuned Hyper Librarian with Formula Synchron and Ryko to Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. He activated its effect, but Tracy pitched an Effect Veiler from his hand to negate it! Bellido attacked Tracy’s face-down Reborn Tengu with his Trishula, destroying it in battle and allowing Tracy to Special Summon another Tengu from his Deck. He Set Enemy Controller in Main Phase 2 and then ended his turn.

Tracy put his Tengu in Defense Position and then Set 2 cards to his back row.

Bellido drew Caius the Shadow Monarch next turn. He Normal Summoned Reborn Tengu and then used it to attack and destroy Tracy’s Defense Position Tengu. Tracy Special Summoned another Tengu from his Deck in Defense Position, which Trishula attacked and destroyed. After that, Tracy was out of Tengus to Summon.

Tracy drew a card and passed.

Bellido drew Sangan next turn. He Tributed his Reborn Tengu to Summon Caius, and activated Caius’s effect to banish Tracy’s face-down Spirit Reaper. Tracy lost 1000 Life Points due to Caius’s effect, and Bellido Special Summoned another Tengu from his Deck due to the effect of the one he Tributed. Bellido tried declaring a direct attack with Reborn Tengu, but Tracy flipped Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Tengu from his Graveyard. Bellido attacked with his Tengu anyway, wiping out Tracy’s Tengu with his own. Tracy was out of Tengus to Summon, but Bellido Special Summoned another copy from his Deck in Attack Position. Tengu and Caius attacked directly to drop Tracy down to 2900 Life Points. Trishula attacked directly next, and Tracy activated his last face-down card, Mystical Space Typhoon, to target Bellido’s Enemy Controller. Bellido Chained Maxx “C” from his hand, knowing Gorz was coming. Enemy Controller was destroyed, and after Trishula dealt 2700 ATK to Tracy, Tracy Special Summoned Gorz from his hand in Attack Position, along with an Emissary of Darkness Token in Defense Position. Bellido drew 2 copies of D.D. Crow thanks to the effect of Maxx “C”. Bellido activated Pot of Avarice in Main Phase 2, but when Bellido chose his 5 monsters, Tracy pitched D.D. Crow from his hand to remove Debris Dragon from Bellido’s Graveyard and stop the Pot of Avarice. Next, Bellido removed Lonefire Blossom from his Graveyard to Special Summon Spore as a Level 4 monster. He Tuned Spore with Reborn Tengu to Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon, then used his Dragon’s effect to destroy his face-up Call of the Haunted and Tracy’s 2700 DEF Emissary of Darkness Token.

Tracy began his next turn with Gorz in Attack Position, staring down Trishula, Scrap Dragon, and Caius. He tried to activate Pot of Avarice to turn the Duel around, but Bellido showed him the D.D. Crow in his hand that he would use to stop it. Tracy conceded, unable to take down Bellido’s field.

Lazaro Bellido maintains total control throughout the Match and takes a 2-0 victory over Tyler Tracy in the Tengu Synchro mirror-Match! Lazaro Bellido is moving on with a 7-1 record!
