Top 4 Feature Match: Robert Boyajian vs. Justin Delhon

August 7th, 2011

Four Decks were left in this tournament: Gadgets, Gravekeepers, and two Synchro Decks. Here, we’d see Justin Delhon take his Gadget Deck against Robert Boyajian’s Synchros. It was totally possible that the Finals could be a Synchro mirror Match. It was also possible that Synchros might not make the Finals at all. Let’s see what happens!

Boyajian started things off with Tour Guide from the Underworld, Special Summoning Sangan from his Deck! He stacked them to Xyz Summon Grenosaurus, and Set 4 cards to his Spell and Trap Card Zone.

Delhon had a hand of Dark Hole, Reborn Tengu, Smashing Ground, Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind, Dimensional Prison, and Gorz the Emissary of Darkness. He Summoned Tengu, and activated Smashing Ground to destroy Grenosaurus. Boyajian got Dandylion from his Deck with Sangan’s effect. Delhon attacked with Tengu, but Boyajian responded with Call of the Haunted, bringing up Sangan. Delhon attacked over it, and Boyajian got Debris Dragon from his Deck. Delhon Set Prison.

Boyajian flipped his Set One for One next turn, discarding Dandylion to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb from his Deck. He Special Summoned his 2 Fluff Tokens, then Tuned 1 to the Bulb for Formula Synchron, drawing. He Normal Summoned Debris Dragon to bring up Dandylion, and Tuned it to Formula Synchron for T.G. Hyper Librarian. He Summoned 2 more Tokens. He then Tuned Debris Dragon to 2 Tokens for Iron Chain Dragon, drawing with Hyper Librarian. Boyajian sent Dark Hole to his Graveyard from the top of his Deck to bring back Glow-Up Bulb, then Tuned it to another Fluff Token for another Formula Synchron; he drew 2 cards. He Tuned Synchron to Iron Chain, making Stardust Dragon, and drawing yet another card for Librarian. Librarian attacked Reborn Tengu, Boyajian discarded Maxx “C”, and when Delhon Summoned another Tengu, Boyajian got another draw. Stardust Dragon attacked into Dimensional Prison, leaving Boyajian to move to Main Phase 2 with 7 cards in hand, 2 more in his Spell and Trap Card Zone, and Librarian on deck. He flipped Foolish Burial to send Spore to the Graveyard, and Set 4 more cards to his back row.

Delhon drew his third Tengu. He tried to Normal Summon Gale, but lost out to Solemn Warning. He activated Dark Hole, and Boyajian negated it with Solemn Judgment.

Boyajian Summoned his own Reborn Tengu, and Special Summoned Spore by banishing Glow-Up Bulb from his Graveyard. He activated Limit Reverse to revive Dandylion, then Synchro Summoned Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. When he banished Gorz the Emissary of Darkness from Delhon’s hand, Delhon conceded.

An explosive three turns with multiple Synchro Summons leads to an easy win for Robert Boyajian in the first Duel! Another opening hand like that for Boyajian would mean an easy trip to the Finals table. Delhon dove for his Side Deck.

Delhon had a hand of Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Mystical Space Typhoon, Pot of Avarice, Pot of Duality, Solemn Warning, and Dust Tornado. He activated Pot of Duality, revealing Yellow Gadget, Effect Veiler, and Monster Reborn. He took Yellow Gadget and Summoned it, getting Green Gadget from his Deck. He Set 3 cards to his back row.

Boyajian tried to Summon Reborn Tengu, but lost out to Solemn Warning. He Set Forbidden Lance and Dimensional Prison, and lost them both in the End Phase to Delhon’s Dust Tornado and Mystical Space Typhoon.

Delhon drew Monster Reborn. He Summoned Green Gadget to get Red Gadget, and attacked for a combined total of 2600 Battle Damage. Delhon Xyz Summoned Number 39: Utopia in Main Phase 2.

Boyajian Set a Spell / Trap.

Delhon drew Dark Hole and Summoned Red Gadget. Boyajian wiped the field with Torrential Tribute, but Delhon still got another Yellow Gadget from his Deck.

Boyajian Summoned Reborn Tengu and attacked for 1700 Battle Damage. Delhon Special Summoned Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, and a 1700 ATK / DEF Emissary of Darkness Token.

Delhon drew Fiendish Chain, and Summoned Yellow Gadget to get Green from his Deck. Gorz attacked over Tengu, Boyajian brought out the next Tengu in Attack Position, and Delhon traded his Token for it in battle. That let Yellow Gadget make a direct attack, and Delhon Set Fiendish Chain.

Boyajian Summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior, and when he used its effect, Delhon Chained Fiendish Chain. Boyajian Set a Spell / Trap.

Delhon drew Book of Moon and Summoned Green Gadget, getting Red Gadget from his Deck. Gorz attacked, and Boyajian turned it Defense Position with Enemy Controller. Delhon Xyz Summoned another Number 39: Utopia, and Set Book.

Boyajian Summoned another Breaker! Delhon turned it face-down with Book of Moon.

Delhon drew Reborn Tengu. He Summoned it, and turned Gorz to Attack Position. Gorz attacked over the Attack Position Breaker, Tengu attacked the face-down Breaker, and Utopia attacked to finish the Duel!

Justin Delhon dominates the second Duel, taking us to one more contest in this Match! The winner of the next Duel would be headed to the finals, and would take home a guaranteed copy of the new prize card, Blood Mefist. Both Duelists spent a considerable amount of time with their Side Decks.

Boyajian started the last Duel by Setting 5 cards to his back row.

Delhon was holding Dark Hole, Enemy Controller, Dust Tornado, Solemn Warning, Compulsory Evacuation Device, and Mystical Space Typhoon. He too Set 5 cards to his back row.

Delhon drew Solemn Judgment and passed.

Boyajian flipped Limit Reverse, and Delhon Chained Mystical Space Typhoon. Boyajian forced it through with Solemn Judgment, and got his Lonefire Blossom. He Tributed Dandylion for Lonefire’s effect, Special Summoning 2 Fluff Tokens and bringing out another Lonefire. He Tributed the first Lonefire for the second to get Glow-Up Bulb, then Tuned Bulb to a Fluff Token for Formula Synchron. He drew a card, and revived Glow-Up Bulb with its effect, sending Mystical Space Typhoon to the Graveyard. He Tuned Formula Synchron to Lonefire Blossom for T.G. Hyper Librarian, and Delhon kicked it back to the Extra Deck with Compulsory Evacuation Device. Boyajian Tuned Glow-Up Bulb to a Fluff Token for another Formula Synchron and another draw, going to 3 cards in hand. He Set a fourth card to his back row.

Delhon drew Red Gadget, but lost it to Solemn Warning when he tried to Summon it. He lost his Enemy Controller in the End Phase, as Boyajian played Mystical Space Typhoon.

Boyajian passed.

Delhon Set a Spell or Trap.

Boyajian tried to Summon Debris Dragon, but Delhon negated the Summon with Warning.

Delhon drew Pulling the Rug and Set it.

Boyajian Summoned Tour Guide from the Underworld, and Delhon flipped Pulling the Rug!

Boyajian went for another Tour Guide, and Delhon played the Judgment to stop it. Boyajian sent Spore to the Graveyard with Foolish Burial, banishing Lonefire Blossom to Special Summon Spore. He revealed Mind Control to win the Match!

Robert Boyajian moves on to the Finals!
