Round 2 Feature Match: Robert Boyajian vs. David Tweg

September 17th, 2011

Robert Boyajian is the most recent YCS winner. He tore through the competition with his Plant Deck at YCS Indianapolis, and now he’s hoping to do the same thing with his T.G. Deck here in Toronto. But David Tweg, an inexperienced Duelist who recently picked up his Fairy Deck, will be doing everything he can to defeat the former champion.

Boyajian opened up with Pot of Duality, Monster Reborn, Starlight Road, Solemn Judgment, Torrential Tribute, and Horn of the Phantom Beast. He activated Pot of Duality, revealing Horn of the Phantom Beast, Effect Veiler, and Dark Hole from the top of his Deck, then added the Veiler to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, Boyajian Set all of his Trap Cards to his back row and passed.

Tweg Set a card to his back row and then Normal Summoned The Agent of Creation – Venus. He chose not to use his turn-player priority, and Boyajian flipped Torrential Tribute to destroy Venus.

Boyajian drew and Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh next turn. He attacked directly with Rai-Oh, and Tweg lost 1900 Life Points.

Tweg activated Smashing Ground to destroy Thunder King Rai-Oh, then used Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Boyajian’s face-down Horn of the Phantom Beast. He Normal Summoned Venus next, and paid 500 Life Points to activate its effect; but Boyajian discarded Effect Veiler from his hand to negate the effect!

Boyajian drew Reborn Tengu next turn! He activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Thunder King Rai-Oh from his Graveyard, then Normal Summoned Reborn Tengu. Tengu attacked and destroyed Venus, then Thunder King Rai-Oh attacked Tweg directly, dropping him down to 3600 Life Points!

Tweg tried to activate Dark Hole next turn to clear the field, but Boyajian flipped Starlight Road, negating the Dark Hole and allowing him to Special Summon Stardust Dragon to the field! Next, Tweg banished Venus from his Graveyard to try to Special Summon Master Hyperion from his hand; but Boyajian sent his Rai-Oh to the Graveyard to negate Hyperion’s Summon. Tweg tried using Monster Reborn to revive the Master Hyperion next, but Boyajian flipped Solemn Judgment and gave up half of his Life Points to negate it! Tweg Set the last card in his hand before ending his turn.

Boyajian drew T.G. Rush Rhino next turn. He Normal Summoned it and then attacked Tweg’s face-down monster with his Stardust Dragon – it was an Honest, and Stardust Dragon destroyed it in battle. Direct attacks from T.G. Rush Rhino and Reborn Tengu followed, wiping out Tweg’s last 3600 Life Points!

A huge play with Starlight Road allows Robert Boyajian to dominate Duel 1! David Tweg will be going first in Duel 2!

Tweg started off Duel 2 by Setting a card to his back row and Normal Summoning The Agent of Mystery – Earth. He used Earth’s effect to search his Deck for a copy of Venus to add to his hand, then ended his turn.

Boyajian opened up with Solemn Warning, Bottomless Trap Hole, Pot of Avarice, Maxx “C”, Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Light-Imprisoning Mirror. He Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh and then attacked Earth with it, destroying the Earth in battle and dropping Tweg down to 7100 Life Points. Boyajian Set Solemn Warning and Bottomless Trap Hole before passing.

Tweg used Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Boyajian’s face-down Solemn Warning and then activated Dark Hole to destroy Rai-Oh. Next, he Normal Summoned Venus, but once again chose not to use his turn-player priority. Boyajian banished Venus with Bottomless Trap Hole. Tweg banished Earth from his Graveyard next, in order to Special Summon Master Hyperion from his hand, and attacked directly with his Hyperion.

Boyajian drew Trap Dustshoot next turn. He Set it along with Light-Imprisoning Mirror and passed.

Tweg drew a card and then Boyajian activated Trap Dustshoot, forcing Tweg to reveal The Agent of Mystery – Earth, Monster Reborn, Mirror Force, and Mystical Shine Ball from his hand. Boyajian sent Earth back to Tweg’s Deck with his Trap Card. Tweg Set Mirror Force and then attacked directly with Master Hyperion, dropping Boyajian down to 2600 Life Points.

Boyajian drew T.G. Warwolf next turn. He Set it along Pot of Avarice and then passed.

Tweg drew Pot of Duality and activated it, revealing T.G. Striker, Rivalry of Warlords, and Torrential Tribute from the top of his Deck. He added the Rivalry to his hand and then Set a card to each zone. Tweg attacked Boyajian’s face-down Warwolf with Master Hyperion next, destroying it in battle. In Tweg’s End Phase, Boyajian used the effect of his Warwolf to search his Deck for T.G. Rush Rhino and add it to his hand.

Boyajian drew Thunder King Rai-Oh next turn. He Set his Rhino and passed.

Tweg Set a card to his back row and then activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Thunder King Rai-Oh from Boyajian’s Graveyard. Boyajian Chained Maxx “C” to the Monster Reborn to draw Reborn Tengu after Thunder King Rai-Oh hit the field, but it was all over moments later! Thunder King Rai-Oh attacked and destroyed the face-down Rush Rhino, and then Master Hyperion attacked directly, wiping out the last 2600 of Boyajian’s Life Points!

David Tweg applies constant pressure with Master Hyperion, and eventually wins the Duel after 3 direct attacks! Robert Boyajian will be going first in Duel 3!

Boyajian opened up with Bottomless Trap Hole, Smashing Ground, Pot of Duality, Torrential Tribute, Mirror Force, and TG1-EM1. He activated Pot of Duality to reveal Solemn Warning, Mind Crush, and Maxx “C” from the top of his Deck, and chose to add Solemn Warning to his hand. He shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, Boyajian Set Torrential Tribute and ended his turn.

Tweg activated Pot of Duality next turn, revealing Mirror Force, Rivalry of Warlords, and Master Hyperion from the top of his Deck. He added Master Hyperion to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, Tweg Set 2 cards to his back row and Summoned The Agent of Mystery – Earth to the field! He used Earth’s effect to search his Deck for The Agent of Creation – Venus and add it to his hand. Then he attacked directly with Earth, dropping Boyajian down to 7000 Life Points.

Boyajian drew Starlight Road next turn. He Set Starlight Road, Mirror Force, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Solemn Warning, but in his End Phase, Tweg flipped Royal Decree!

Tweg banished Earth from his Graveyard to Special Summon Master Hyperion, then Normal Summoned Venus. He used Venus’s effect twice to Special Summon 2 Mystical Shine Balls from his Deck, and then attacked directly with Master Hyperion, Venus, and 2 Shine Balls, dropping Boyajian down to 1700 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Tweg combined his 2 Shine Balls to Summon Gachi Gachi Gantetsu in Defense Position.

Boyajian drew Trap Dustshoot next turn and conceded, with 5 Traps face-down, 2 Traps in his hand, and a Smashing Ground he couldn’t even activate because he had 5 cards in his back row.

David Tweg defeats Robert Boyajian in Duel 3 by shutting him out with Royal Decree. Tweg is advancing in the tournament undefeated!
