Audrey Tan and James Kim are both local Canadian Duelists, and now they’re pitted against one another in a Duel between Agents and Plants. This is a common Matchup in this weekend’s tournament, and even though both of these Duelists are currently undefeated, only one of them will advance beyond this round with a perfect 4-0 record.

Tan opened up with Bottomless Trap Hole, Call of the Haunted, Genex Ally Birdman, Herald of Orange Light, Pot of Avarice, and The Agent of Creation – Venus. She Normal Summoned Venus and then activated its effect 3 times to Special Summon 3 copies of Mystical Shine Ball from her Deck. Next, she returned Venus to her hand in order to Special Summon Genex Ally Birdman! She Tuned Birdman with all 3 copies of Mystical Shine Ball in order to Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, and used Trishula’s effect to banish Spirit Reaper from Kim’s hand. Tan Set Bottomless Trap Hole and Call of the Haunted before ending her turn.

Kim activated Gold Sarcophagus to banish One for One from his Deck so that he’d be able to add it to his hand 2 turns later. He Set a card to each zone before ending his turn.

Tan drew Honest next turn. She Normal Summoned Venus and then attacked Kim’s face-down monster with Venus – it was Reborn Tengu! Tengu was destroyed in battle, and Tan negated its effect by discarding Herald of Orange Light and Honest from her hand. Next, Trishula attacked directly, dropping Kim down to 5300 Life Points. Tan activated Pot of Avarice in Main Phase 2, returning Herald of Orange Light, Honest, and all 3 Mystical Shine Balls from her Graveyard to her Deck to draw Mystical Space Typhoon and Mystical Shine Ball. She activated Mystical Space Typhoon to target Kim’s face-down Call of the Haunted, and Kim Chained it to Special Summon Tengu. Call of the Haunted and Tengu went to the Graveyard, and Kim Special Summoned another Tengu from his Deck. Tan banished that Tengu with Bottomless Trap Hole, and Kim Special Summoned his third copy. Next, Tan paid 1000 Life Points to activate Venus’s effect twice, allowing her to Special Summon 2 copies of Mystical Shine Ball from her Deck. She combined them to Xyz Summon Gachi Gachi Gantetsu in Defense Position and then ended her turn.

Kim Normal Summoned Glow-Up Bulb and Tuned it with Reborn Tengu to Synchro Summon Ally of Justice Catastor.

Tan drew Creature Swap next turn! She Normal Summoned Mystical Shine Ball and then activated Creature Swap, trading her Shine Ball for Ally of Justice Catastor! She switched Gachi Gachi Gantetsu into Attack Position and then used Venus to attack and destroy Mystical Shine Ball, dropping Kim down to 3800 Life Points. Direct attacks from Gachi Gachi Gantetsu, Ally of Justice Catastor, and Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier finished Kim off!

Audrey Tan uses her Birdman/Venus combo to Summon an early Trishula and win the first Duel! James Kim will be going first in Duel 2!

Kim started off Duel 2 by Normal Summoning Tour Guide From the Underworld and activating her effect to Special Summon Sangan from his Deck in Attack Position. He Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Tan opened up with Tour Guide From the Underworld, Creature Swap, Dark Hole, Master Hyperion, The Agent of Creation – Venus, and Mystical Shine Ball. She Normal Summoned Tour Guide, but when she activated her effect, Kim paid 2000 Life Points to activate Solemn Warning! Tour Guide’s effect was negated, and Tour Guide was destroyed.

Kim Normal Summoned Spirit Reaper next turn. He attacked directly with Reaper, forcing Tan to discard Master Hyperion from her hand, and then attacked directly with Tour Guide and Sangan to drop Tan down to 5700 Life Points. Kim Set 1 card to his back row before ending his turn.

Tan drew Mirror Force next turn. She activated Dark Hole to clear the field, and Kim searched his Deck for a copy of Effect Veiler to add to his hand with the effect of Sangan. Tan Set Mystical Shine Ball and Mirror Force before ending her turn.

Kim Normal Summoned Reborn Tengu and then attacked and destroyed Tan’s Shine Ball with his monster.

Tan drew Pot of Duality next turn. She activated it to reveal The Agent of Miracles – Jupiter, Honest, and Book of Moon from the top of her Deck. She added Jupiter to her hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into her Deck. Next, she Normal Summoned Jupiter, but her monster was turned face-down by Book of Moon before she could attack.

Kim Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh. He attacked with Reborn Tengu, but Tan flipped Mirror Force to destroy the Tengu and Rai-Oh. Kim Special Summoned another Tengu from his Deck with the effect of his fallen one, and the new Tengu wiped out Jupiter in battle.

Tan drew Archlord Kristya next turn, but she only had 3 Fairies in the Graveyard. She Normal Summoned Venus and paid 500 Life Points to activate its effect; but Kim discarded Maxx “C” from his hand! Tan Special Summoned 1 Shine Ball in Defense Position, and Kim drew a card thanks to the effect of Maxx “C”. Next, Tan activated Creature Swap. She traded her Shine Ball for Kim’s Tengu, and then attacked over the Shine Ball with Tengu. Next, Venus attacked directly. In Main Phase 2, Tan Special Summoned Archlord Kristya! Kim drew a card thanks to Maxx “C” and discarded Effect Veiler to negate Kristya’s effect so that Tan wouldn’t be able to return Master Hyperion from her Graveyard to her hand.

Kim Set Bottomless Trap Hole, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Spore on his next turn, but couldn’t defeat Kristya.

Tan drew Trap Stun and then attacked Kim’s face-down Spore with Venus, destroying it in battle. She followed up with direct attacks from Tengu and Kristya, wiping out Kim’s last 4400 Life Points!

A miraculous play with Archlord Kristya allows Audrey Tan to come back from behind and defeat James Kim 2-0! Tan is moving on to Round 5 with a 4-0 record!
