Sunday’s Dragon Duel: Leo Chan VS Vinnie Silverman

Leo Chan and Vinnie Silveman both have 4-0 records in today’s Dragon Duel and are Dueling against one another in this final round. Silverman is a local Duelist from Toronto, but Chan traveled here from Connecticut to compete. This is Silverman’s first YCS, and a victory over Chan in this Match will turn his first YCS experience into an unforgettable event that turned him into a Dragon Duel Champion. But Chan won’t make it easy for Silverman. He skillfully fought through 4 rounds of opponents in order to bring his HERO Deck to the top, and will be fighting to make sure that Silverman’s Gravekeeper’s don’t get in his way.

Silverman started off Duel 1 by activating Necrovalley and Setting 4 cards to his back row.

Chan opened up with Dimensional Prison, Mask Change, Future Fusion, Fusion Gate, Elemental HERO Heat, and Pot of Duality. He activated Fusion Gate, getting rid of Necrovalley, and then tried activating Future Fusion; but Silverman negated it with Solemn Warning. Chan activated Pot of Duality next, revealing Elemental HERO Neos Alius and 2 copies of Gemini Spark from the top of his Deck. He added Alius to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, Chan Normal Summoned Elemental HERO Heat and tried attacking directly with it; but Silverman flipped Fiendish Chain to stop it. Chan Set Dimensional Prison and Mask Change before ending his turn.

Silverman discarded Gravekeeper’s Commandant to search for Necrovalley and activated Necrovalley to get rid of Fusion Gate.

Chan drew Elemental HERO Ice Edge! He Normal Summoned it and then attacked directly with it. Chen lost 800 Life Points and Ice Edge destroyed Silverman’s face-down Starlight Road.

Silverman Set a card to his back row and passed.

Chan drew another Mask Change next turn. He Normal Summoned Elemental HERO Neos Alius and then attacked with Ice Edge. Silverman flipped Fiendish Chain to block the attack, and Chan Chained Mask Change, costing him his Ice Edge; but Silverman Chained Solemn Judgment to negate the Mask Change! Alius attacked directly, and Silverman dropped down to 1100 Life Points. Chan Set Mask Change before ending his turn.

Silverman Set a monster and passed.

Chan drew Heavy Storm. He activated Mask Change to swap Heat with Masked HERO Goka and then activated Heavy Storm, destroying Necrovalley and the on-field Fiendish Chains. Next, Chan attacked Silverman’s face-down Gravekeeper’s Recruiter with his Goka, destroying it in battle, and scored a direct hit with Elemental HERO Neos Alius, finishing the Duel!

Leo Chan makes strong use of Mask Change to win Duel 1! Vinnie Silverman will be going first in Duel 2!

Silverman started off Duel 2 by Setting a monster along with 3 back rows.

Chan opened up with Mystical Space Typhoon, Dimensional Prison, Fusion Gate, Elemental HERO Neos Alius, Pot of Duality, and Dark Hole. He activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Silverman’s face-down Mystical Space Typhoon and then activated Dark Hole to destroy Silverman’s Gravekeeper’s Spy. Next, he activated Pot of Duality, revealing Elemental HERO Ice Edge, Elemental HERO Heat, and Dimensional Prison from the top of his Deck. He added Ice Edge to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He tried to Normal Summon Ice Edge, but lost out to Solemn Warning. Chan Set Dimensional Prison before ending his turn.

Silverman Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant and passed.

Chan drew Elemental HERO Heat next turn. He Normal Summoned it and then attacked Descendant, destroying it in battle.

Silverman activated Gravekeeper’s Stele to return Gravekeeper’s Spy and Gravekeeper’s Descendant from his Graveyard to his hand and then Set a monster.

Chan drew Dimensional Prison. He Set it and then Summoned Elemental HERO Neos Alius. Alius attacked and destroyed Silverman’s face-down Gravekeeper’s Recruiter, allowing Silverman to search his Deck for a Gravekeeper’s Commandant to add to his hand. Next, Elemental HERO Heat attacked directly for 2000 points of damage, dropping Silverman down to 3700 Life Points.

Silverman discarded Gravekeeper’s Commandant from his hand to grab a Necrovalley from his Deck and then activated it. He Set a monster and passed.

Chan drew another Dimensional Prison next turn. He Set it and ended his turn.

Silverman Flip Summoned Gravekeeper’s Spy and used its effect to Special Summon Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from his Deck in Defense Position. Next, he Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant. He used his Descendant’s effect to Tribute Gravekeeper’s Recruiter and destroy Silverman’s face-down Dimensional Prison. After it was destroyed, Silverman used Chain Whirlwind to destroy Chan’s other 2 Dimensional Prisons. Silverman grabbed another Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from his Deck with the effect of his Tributed Recruiter. Gravekeeper’s Descendant attacked and destroyed Neos Alius, and then Silverman combined Gravekeeper’s Spy with Gravekeeper’s Descendant to make Wind-Up Zenmaister in Main Phase 2. He Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Chan drew Elemental HERO Neos Alius next turn. He activated Fusion Gate to get rid of Necrovalley and then banished Neos Alius and Elemental HERO Heat to Summon Elemental HERO The Shining with Fusion Gate! The Shining attacked and destroyed Zenmaister, dropping Silverman down to 3000 Life Points.

Silverman activated Gravekeeper’s Stele to return Gravekeeper’s Commandant and Gravekeeper’s Spy from his Graveyard to his hand, and then discarded his Commandant to search his Deck for a Necrovalley. Silverman Set a monster before ending his turn.

Chan drew Heavy Storm next turn and activated it; but Silverman Chained Starlight Road to negate it and Special Summon Stardust Dragon! The Shining attacked and destroyed Silverman’s face-down Gravekeeper’s Spy, and Silverman Special Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant from his Deck with his Spy’s effect.

Silverman Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter next turn and Tributed it with his Descendant to destroy The Shining. Chan added Heat and Neos Alius to his hand thanks to The Shining’s effect, and Silverman grabbed a Gravekeeper’s Commandant from his Deck with the effect of his Recruiter. Silverman attacked with Gravekeeper’s Descendant and Stardust Dragon to drop Chan down to 3400 Life Points.

Chan drew Bottomless Trap Hole next turn and Set it. He Set a monster and passed.

Silverman activated Pot of Duality, revealing Gozen Match, Book of Moon, and Fiendish Chain from the top of his Deck. He took the Fiendish Chain and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Commandant and activated his Descendant’s effect to Tribute the Commandant and destroy Chan’s face-down monster. Direct attacks from Stardust Dragon and Gravekeeper’s Descendant finished Chan off!

Chan opened up Duel 3 with Elemental HERO Stratos, Divine Wrath, Mirror Force, Pot of Duality, Elemental HERO Heat, and Elemental HERO Neos Alius. He activated Pot of Duality, revealing Neos Alius, Terraforming, and E – Emergency Call from the top of his Deck. He added the Terraforming to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he activated Terraforming to search his Deck for Fusion Gate and add it to his hand. He Normal Summoned Elemental HERO Stratos next, and activated its effect to add Elemental HERO Ice Edge from his Deck to his hand. Chan completed his turn by Setting Mirror Force and Divine Wrath.

Silverman activated Pot of Duality to reveal Gravekeeper’s Spy, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Wonder Wand from the top of his Deck. He added Mystical Space Typhoon to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Silverman Set a monster and 2 back rows before ending his turn.

Chan drew Monster Reborn and passed.

Silverman Flip Summoned Gravekeeper’s Spy and activated its effect; but Chan Chained Divine Wrath by discarding Elemental HERO Heat to negate and destroy the Spy. Silverman activated Pot of Duality next, revealing Necrovalley, Compulsory Evacuation Device, and Fiendish Chain from the top of his Deck. He added Necrovalley to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he activated Necrovalley. He Set a card to each zone before ending his turn.

Chan drew Miracle Fusion next turn. He activated Fusion Gate, replacing Necrovalley, and then activated the effect of Fusion Gate; but Silverman Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it. Chan Normal Summoned Ice Edge next, and when Silverman flipped Gozen Match, Chan chose to keep his Ice Edge and send Stratos to the Graveyard. He discarded Alius to allow his Ice Edge to attack directly, and then attacked directly, destroying Chain Whirlwind with Ice Edge’s effect.

Silverman Flip Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter next turn and then Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant. He Tributed his Recruiter with the effect of his Descendant to destroy Chan’s Mirror Force and grab a Gravekeeper’s Commandant from his Deck. He pitched Commandant to search for Necrovalley and then activated it. Silverman Set a card to his back row and then attacked Ice Edge with Descendant, in order to destroy it.

Chan drew Trap Dustshoot next turn, with Miracle Fusion and Monster Reborn in hand. He Set the Trap Dustshoot and passed his turn, locked down by Necrovalley.

Silverman drew Mystical Space Typhoon and used it to destroy Trap Dustshoot. He attacked directly with Descendant before passing back to Chan.

Chan drew Gemini Spark and Set it.

Silverman drew Pot of Duality and activated it to reveal Gravekeeper’s Stele, Compulsory Evacuation Device, and Wonder Wand from the top of his Deck. He added the Stele to his hand and sent the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Silverman activated the Stele to return Gravekeeper’s Recruiter and Gravekeeper’s Spy from his Graveyard to his hand and then Normal Summoned the Recruiter. He Tributed his Recruiter with Descendant’s effect to destroy Gemini Spark and search his Deck for another Recruiter to add to his hand. Gravekeeper’s Descendant attacked directly, dropping Chan down to 2800 Life Points.

Chan drew Bottomless Trap Hole next turn. He Set it and passed.

Silverman Summoned another Gravekeeper’s Recruiter next turn and used priority to Tribute it and destroy Bottomless Trap Hole. He used Recruiter’s effect to add Gravekeeper’s Descendant from his Deck to his hand. A direct attack from Gravekeeper’s Descendant dropped Chan down to 800 Life Points. Silverman Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Chan drew Elemental HERO Neos Alius next turn and Set it.

Silverman Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant and Tributed it with his other Descendant to destroy Chan’s face-down Elemental HERO Neos Alius. A direct attack from Gravekeeper’s Descendant finished Chan off!

Vinnie Silverman defeats Leo Chan a close 2-1 Match to become the newest Dragon Duel Champion!
