Final Round Feature Match: Chris Biswell vs. Courtney Waller

November 20th, 2011

This is the last Match of the tournament. Courtney Waller made it here with his Chaos Deck, and now he’s going up against one of the most popular Decks in the tournament. If he hopes to become a YCS Champion, he’ll need to defeat Chris Biswell’s Synchro-heavy Deck in this final round. Both Duelists are just one Match away from a YCS victory!.

DUEL ONE

Biswell started off Duel 1 by Setting a card to his back row.

Waller opened up with Maxx “C”, Pot of Duality, Monster Reborn, Chaos Sorcerer, Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, and Effect Veiler. He activated Pot of Duality, revealing Pot of Duality, Allure of Darkness, and Tragoedia from the top of his Deck. He added the Allure of Darkness to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Then he activated Allure of Darkness to draw Tour Guide From the Underworld and another card, and banished Chaos Sorcerer from his hand. Waller ended his turn without a field.

Biswell Normal Summoned Spirit Reaper. Before he could enter his Battle Phase, Waller discarded Effect Veiler to negate Spirit Reaper’s effect. Biswell ended his turn without using Spirit Reaper to attack.

Waller drew another Maxx “C” next turn. He Normal Summoned Tour Guide and activated her effect; but Biswell Chained Maxx “C”! Waller Special Summoned Sangan from his Deck, and Biswell drew a card thanks to Maxx “C”. Next, Tour Guide and Sangan attacked Spirit Reaper, dropping Biswell down to 6600 Life Points.

Biswell Normal Summoned Lonefire Blossom next turn and Tributed it to activate its effect; but Waller Chained Maxx “C”! Biswell Special Summoned Dandylion in Defense Position, and Waller drew Pot of Avarice with the help of Maxx “C”.

Waller drew Dimensional Alchemist next turn. He Normal Summoned Dimensional Alchemist and activated its effect to banish Torrential Tribute from the top of his Deck. Dimensional Alchemist attacked and destroyed Biswell’s Dandylion, and then Tour Guide and Sangan destroyed the 2 Fluff Tokens that it left behind.

Biswell passed without making a play, safely hiding behind Spirit Reaper.

Waller drew Pot of Duality next turn and activated it, revealing Enemy Controller, Battle Fader, and Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer from the top of his Deck. He quickly chose to add Enemy Controller to his hand and shuffle the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He activated the effect of Dimensional Alchemist to banish D.D. Crow from the top of his Deck, and then activated Enemy Controller, Tributing Sangan to try to take control of Spirit Reaper. Spirit Reaper destroyed itself as a result of being targeted, and Waller searched his Deck for Spirit Reaper with the effect of Sangan. Waller Normal Summoned the Spirit Reaper and then attacked with it; but Biswell flipped Scapegoat to Summon 4 Sheep Tokens! Waller wiped out 3 of them with his Alchemist, Tour Guide, and Reaper, and play passed to Biswell.

Biswell Normal Summoned Effect Veiler next turn, and Waller discarded Maxx “C”! Biswell Tuned Effect Veiler with a Sheep Token to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron in Defense Position and draw a card, allowing Waller to draw Tour Guide From the Underworld with the effect of Maxx “C”. Biswell Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Waller drew Dark Hole next turn. He banished Sangan and Effect Veiler from his Graveyard to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and then used its effect to banish Biswell’s Formula Synchron. Next, Waller activated his Alchemist’s effect to banish Battle Fader from the top of his Deck. Spirit Reaper declared an attack, and Biswell flipped Book of Moon to put it face-down. Then Tour Guide attacked directly, dropping Biswell down to 5600 Life Points. Dimensional Alchemist attacked directly next, dropping Biswell down to 3800 Life Points. Biswell Special Summoned Gorz the Emissary of Darkness on the attack, along with an 1800 DEF Emissary of Darkness Token! Waller activated Dark Hole next, clearing the field. Biswell lost Gorz and the Token, and Waller lost Dimensional Alchemist, Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, Tour Guide, and Spirit Reaper. Waller grabbed a banished Battle Fader with the effect of his Alchemist. Waller activated Pot of Avarice in Main Phase 2, sending Spirit Reaper, Dimensional Alchemist, Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, and 2 copies of Maxx “C” from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw 2 cards. Then he Normal Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon a Tour Guide from his hand. Waller combined his 2 Tour Guides to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon, and detached an Xyz Material to Special Summon Sangan to the field in Defense Position.

[After the Match, I asked Waller why he activated Dark Hole while he had Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning on the field. “The only reason I did that was out of extreme fear of Enemy Controller and Monster Reborn.” Waller didn’t want his own Black Luster Soldier used against him, so he sent it back to his Deck with Pot of Avarice to be safe.]

Biswell activated his own Pot of Avarice next turn, returning Gorz, Maxx “C”, Effect Veiler, Spirit Reaper, and Lonefire Blossom to his Deck to draw 2 cards. He activated One for One by discarding Maxx “C” from his hand, and Special Summoned Spore from his Deck. Then he activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Dandylion. Next, he Tuned Dandylion with Spore to Synchro Summon Armory Arm and Special Summon 2 Fluff Tokens. Biswell banished Dandylion from his Graveyard next, in order to Special Summon Spore back from the Graveyard. He Tuned Spore with Armory Arm and a Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, and used Trishula’s effect to banish a Tour Guide in Waller’s Graveyard, a Battle Fader in his hand, and a Sangan on his field.

Waller activated Monster Reborn next turn to Special Summon Armory Arm from Biswell’s Graveyard, and then Normal Summoned Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer. He equipped Kycoo with Armory Arm and then attacked Trishula with Kycoo, wiping out the Trishula and dropping Biswell down to 1000 Life Points. Kycoo also banished 2 monsters from Biswell’s Graveyard.

Biswell activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Armory Arm next turn, and then Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh. He attacked with Rai-Oh to destroy Kycoo and then Set 2 cards to his back row.

Waller attempted to Normal Summon Dimensional Alchemist, and Biswell negated its Summon with Solemn Judgment. Next, Waller banished Kycoo and Dimensional Alchemist from his Graveyard in an attempt to Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, and Biswell sent Thunder King Rai-Oh to the Graveyard to negate its Summon. Finally, Waller banished Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and Tour Guide From the Underworld from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Sorcerer, and used the Sorcerer’s effect to banish Biswell’s last Fluff Token.

[Waller Summoned Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning before Chaos Sorcerer so that he would have a LIGHT monster in his Graveyard when his first-attempted Special Summon was negated by Thunder King Rai-Oh.]

Biswell activated Dark Hole to destroy Chaos Sorcerer and then Set a card to his back row.

Waller had no cards in his hand and drew D.D. Warrior Lady! He Summoned it to the field, and wiped out Biswell’s last 500 Life Points with D.D. Warrior Lady’s attack!

Courtney Waller uses his Chaos monsters to defeat Chris Biswell in the first Duel! Biswell will be going first in Duel 2!

He added Black Luster Soldier to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Waller Summoned Rai-Oh and used it to attack Biswell’s face-down monster, but Biswell blocked the attack with Enemy Controller, switching Rai-Oh to Defense Position.

Biswell Tributed his face-down Glow-Up Bulb to Summon Caius the Shadow Monarch next turn, and used Caius’s effect to banish Thunder King Rai-Oh. He attacked directly with Caius and Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Biswell Chained Fiendish Chain, targeting Ryko, and Waller Chained Enemy Controller, Tributing Ryko to take control of Caius! Waller gained control of Caius and Ryko’s effect destroyed Biswell’s face-down Scapegoat. Next, Waller Tributed Biswell’s Caius to try to Summon his own, and Biswell negated Caius’s Summon with Solemn Judgment! Waller activated Pot of Avarice next, returning 5 monsters from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw Maxx “C” and Tragoedia.

Biswell Summoned Reborn Tengu and Set a card to his back row.

Waller Set another Ryko.

Biswell attacked Waller’s face-down Ryko with Tengu, and Ryko destroyed Tengu with its effect before sending the top 3 cards of Waller’s Deck to his Graveyard. Biswell couldn’t Special Summon another Tengu from his Deck, since Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo was on the field to prevent Special Summons. Biswell Set a card to his back row before passing.

Waller drew Enemy Controller next turn. He Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh and then attacked Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo with it; but Biswell flipped Dimensional Prison to banish the Rai-Oh. Waller Set Enemy Controller before ending his turn.

Biswell attacked the face-down Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo with his own, and lost 100 Life Points. Biswell’s Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo was also destroyed by the flipped Fossil Dyna’s effect, since Biswell had Special Summoned it with Monster Reborn earlier in the Duel. In Main Phase 2, Biswell activated Dark Hole to destroy Waller’s Fossil Dyna, and then Normal Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld. He activated Tour Guide’s effect, and Waller Chained Maxx “C” to draw a card when the second Tour Guide hit the field.

Waller drew Battle Fader next turn! Waller Normal Summoned Tour Guide and activated its effect to Special Summon Sangan from his Deck. Biswell Chained Maxx “C” so that he could draw a card when Sangan hit the field. Waller’s Tour Guide traded with Biswell’s, and when Sangan attacked the other Tour Guide, Biswell flipped Dimensional Prison; but Waller Chained Enemy Controller! He Tributed Sangan to take control Biswell’s Tour Guide, and searched his Deck for Honest with the effect of Sangan. Tour Guide attacked directly and Waller Set Torrential Tribute before returning Tour Guide to Biswell in the End Phase.

Biswell Normal Summoned Doomcaliber Knight next turn, and Waller flipped Torrential Tribute to clear the field, destroying Doomcaliber Knight and Tour Guide!

It was all over on the next turn! Waller Special Summoned Chaos Sorcerer and Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning from his hand, and Biswell conceded with only 1900 Life Points remaining!
