Top 32 Feature Match: Civil War in Dark World – Maurice Brantley vs. Vincent Mireles

November 20th, 2011

Have you ever wondered how Dark World monsters became such terrifying, gruesome instruments of destruction?

Let me tell you how. We battle. We battle a lot. And if we run out of foes to demolish, we battle against each other. Most of the titanic struggles waged by Dark World armies are against other Dark World armies, as the nobility of Dark World battle one another for supremacy. Better to rule than to serve, yes?

And now, in the first elimination round of your tournament today (elimination… such a delightful word…), two Dark World Duelists are facing off to tear each other apart.

It’s just like home.

I will therefore join BOTH sides of this battle! I have granted battlefield promotions to both Duelists, giving them the temporary rank of General. Let us see what they can do. But no matter what happens, I, Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World, WILL WIN!

.

DUEL ONE

Dark World General Mireles started off the battle by Setting 2 cards to his back row.

Dark World General Brantley opened up with an assortment of glorious Dark World forces: Ceruli, Guru of Dark World; Broww, Huntsman of Dark World; Dark World Dealings; Card Destruction; Fabled Raven; and Dark Smog. He Set Dark Smog and Dark World Dealings, then ended his cleverly thought out turn!

General Mireles Set 2 cards to his back row and passed. He was clearly plotting something.

General Brantley drew ME on the next turn! This was pleasing, as I was eager to join the fray. But my excitement was short lived. For you see, Mireles flipped Trap Dustshoot to return me to the Deck! Next, Mireles flipped 2 copies of Mind Crush, forcing Brantley to discard Fabled Raven and Card Destruction – 2 of our strongest cards!

General Mireles activated Heavy Storm on his turn, destroying his own Dark Smog along with Brantley’s Dark Smog and Dark World Dealings. It pains me to see so many Dark World gadgets destroyed, but alas, it must be done! Mireles Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

General Brantley drew Tour Guide From the Underworld, and attempted to Normal Summon her; but Mireles flipped Solemn Judgment and paid 4000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Oh, cruel fate!

General Mireles Normal Summoned Fabled Raven next turn and activated its effect to discard one of minions: Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World. Beiige Special Summoned itself to the field. Raven and Beiige attacked directly, dropping Brantley down to 4800 Life Points. After the battle, Brantley Tuned Raven with Beiige to Synchro Summon Dark Highlander – one of the most powerful Synchro Monsters in my Dark World army!

General Brantley drew Effect Veiler and Set Ceruli, throwing him into the slaughter!

General Mireles destroyed Ceruli with Dark Highlander in a gruesome battle, and then Set a card to his back row.

General Brantley drew Dragged Down into the Grave. He Set a feeble creature of LIGHT, Effect Veiler, and passed his turn to Mireles’s Dark World army.

General Mireles attacked and destroyed the weak Effect Veiler with his mighty Dark Highlander!

General Brantley drew Morphing Jar. He Set it along with Dragged Down into the Grave, and Mireles flipped Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase to destroy Brantley’s Dragged Down into the Grave.

General Mireles activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Fabled Raven from the Graveyard and then activated his Raven’s effect to discard ME and Dragged Down into the Grave! I fearlessly destroyed Morphing Jar with my effect, and then direct attacks from Fabled Raven and Dark Highlander finished Brantley off!

General Vincent Mireles uses Trap Dustshoot and 2 copies of Mind Crush to take control of the first Duel, and eventually uses Fabled Raven to secure his victory! But in the end, it was ME that caused Mireles to triumph! (Would you expect any less!?) Maurice Brantley will be going first in the second battle!

.

DUEL TWO

General Brantley started off with The Gates of Dark World, Sangan, Monster Reborn, Compulsory Evacuation Device, Tour Guide From the Underworld, and Morphing Jar. He Set Sangan and Compulsory Evacuation Device before ending his turn.

General Mireles Normal Summoned Beiige and Set a card to his back row. He attacked Brantley’s face-down Sangan with Beiige, destroying it in battle. We typically use Sangans in herds, to sweep dust off the floors of my palace, but in this case Sangan proved its worth by allowing Brantley to add a worthy Dark World monster, Broww, Huntsman of Dark World, from his Deck to his hand.

General Brantley pulled another Broww into his reserves on his next turn. He activated The Gates of Dark World, and Mireles Chained D.D. Crow to banish the Sangan before Brantley could banish it with Gates. Brantley Normal Summoned Tour Guide and activated her effect to Special Summon another Tour Guide from his Deck. Then he Xyz Summoned Leviair the Sea Dragon, and detached to Special Summon his banished Sangan back to the field! Next, Brantley banished Tour Guide from his Graveyard using The Gates of Dark World, allowing him to discard Broww and draw Thunder King Rai-Oh. Ah, the power of our Gates! Brantley drew Sillva with the effect of Broww. Leviair attacked Beiige, and Mireles flipped Mirror Force, destroying Leviair and Sangan. Brantley grabbed a Fabled Raven from his Deck with Sangan’s effect.

General Mireles attacked for 1900 points of damage with Beiige and then activated The Gates of Dark World to get rid of Brantley’s Gates. Truly, the Dark World creatures were divided, unable to decide whose Gates are best.

But it was all over for Mireles on the next turn! Eager to join the battle, I made it so that Brantley drew ME! He Normal Summoned Fabled Raven and then used its effect to discard 3 worthy Dark World monsters from his hand: Sillva, Warlord of Dark World; Broww, Huntsman of Dark World; and ME! Sillva Special Summoned itself, I destroyed Beiige, and Broww allowed Brantley to draw Dragged Down into the Grave. Next, Brantley activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Broww from his Graveyard. He returned it to his hand to Special Summon ME back to the field, and then attacked directly with Fabled Raven, Sillva, and MYSELF to wipe out all 8000 of Mireles’s Life Points!

I won victory for Maurice Brantley over Vincent Mireles in Duel 2, winning the battle in a single turn.

.

DUEL THREE

General Mireles started off Duel 3 by activating Pot of Duality, revealing Brron, Mad King of Dark World, Foolish Burial, and Dragged Down into the Grave from the top of his Deck. Of course, he added Brron to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Afterall, Brron was the only Dark World monster revealed! Next, Mireles Normal Summoned Brron and Set 2 cards to his back row.

General Brantley opened up the final battle with Sillva, Warlord of Dark World; Snoww, Unlight of Dark World; Effect Veiler; Thunder King Rai-Oh; Dragged Down into the Grave; and that dust-mop Sangan. He Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh, but Mireles flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to banish it. Brantley Set Dragged Down into the Grave before ending his turn.

General Mireles attempted to enter his Battle Phase, and Brantley discarded Effect Veiler to negate Brron’s effect in Main Phase 1. Foiled by a LIGHT monster with 0 ATK! But Brron will not be impeded so easily! Brron attacked directly anyway, inflicting 1800 points of damage to Brantley’s Life Points.

General Brantley Set a Sangan and then activated Dragged Down into the Grave! Mireles revealed The Gates of Dark World; Snoww, Unlight of Dark World; and 2 copies of Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World. Brantley discarded The Gates of Dark World from Mireles’s hand, and Mireles discarded Sillva, Warlord of Dark World from Brantley’s hand. Brantley drew Broww, Huntsman of Dark World with the effect of Dragged Down into the Grave, and then Sillva was Special Summoned; but Mireles flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to banish our Dark World monster!

General Mireles Set 2 cards to his back row and then Normal Summoned Beiige. Beiige attacked and destroyed Brantley’s Sangan, allowing Brantley to add Fabled Raven from his Deck to his hand. Next, Brron attacked directly, dropping Brantley down to 4400 Life Points. Brron’s effect activated, and Mireles discarded Snoww, Unlight of Dark World from his hand. Snow’s effect allowed Mireles to retrieve my recent creation, The Gates of Dark World, from his Deck! Mireles activated The Gates of Dark World. He banished Snoww from his Graveyard to discard Beiige and draw a card with the Gates’s effect. Beiige Special Summoned itself, and then Mireles combined his 2 Beiiges to Xyz Summon one of our powerful, allied Fiend-type monsters, Steelswarm Roach!

General Brantley drew Sillva, Warlord of Dark World next turn, and in his Standby Phase, Mireles activated Mind Crush, forcing Brantley to discard his Fabled Raven. Brantley was left without any way to discard his Dark World monsters! He Set Brrow and passed.

General Mireles Summoned Fabled Raven next turn and used it to attack and destroy Brrow, Then Brron and Steelswarm Roach attacked directly, dropping Brantley down to 100 Life Points!

General Brantley drew Debunk next turn and realized that his Dark World army had been defeated by Mireles’s. He offered a handshake as homage to his conqueror, but like me, he was proud that at least one Dark World army would advance to the Top 16.

A huge play with Mind Crush allows Vincent Mireles to defeat Maurice Brantley and advance to the Top 16 with his Dark World army! And I will be joining General Mireles there!
