YCS Kansas City First-Timers

November 20th, 2011

This may be the last North American Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series event of 2012, but it’s also a weekend of firsts. This is the first weekend that Photon Shockwave is legal for tournament play, the first weekend that Rescue Rabbit Decks are making their tournament debut, and the first weekend that many of today’s competitors got a chance to compete in a YCS. Take a look at some of this weekend’s Duelists who are competing in their first ever YCS event!

1st-Timer Bradley.

14-year-old Bradley Hilton is a Kansas City local, competing in his first ever YCS event!

He’s a regular at local tournaments and Regional events, but has never entered an event this big!

Bradley was running a Tengu Gadget Deck in today’s tournament, and hoping it would bring him to victory. Take a look at Bradley holding up Trageodia, his favorite card in the Deck!

1st-Timer Jackson.

Jackson Conrad is 14 years old and is also a Kansas City local.

He enters tons of local tournaments with his friend Bradley Hilton, but today he’s in store for his first ever YCS!

He started trading with other Duelists at the very start of the day, and was looking forward to competing in this weekend’s tournament with his Machina Gadget Deck.

His favorite card is his German Ultra Rare Effect Veiler. Check out Jackson holding it up!

1st-Timer Tyler.

17-year-old Tyler Trizila traveled here from Sioux City, Iowa to compete in his first ever YCS this weekend.

He enters a lot of Regional and local tournaments, but has never been to an event this size.

“I really am impressed by the turnout,” he told me. When I asked him what his favorite part of the weekend is, he replied, “Having fun and Dueling!”.

Tyler was running Gladiator Beasts in the main event tournament. Take a look at Tyler holding up his star Gladiator Beast, Gladiator Beast Heraklinos!

1st-Timer Peter.

Peter Burnham is 12 years old and traveled here from St. Louis.

Not only is this Peter’s first YCS, but it’s also his first ever tournament!

He’s really excited to be competing this weekend. The turnout was a lot more than Peter expected. “I thought there’d be maybe 100 people or something,” he told me. “I didn’t know there was gonna be so much!”

Peter is running a Deck comprised of his best cards, his favorite of which is Relinquished. Take a look at Peter holding it up!

1st-Timer Keegan.

12-year-old Keegan Drumm traveled here from Dennis, Kansas.

This is his first ever tournament and he’s excited to be Dueling in a competitive atmosphere for the first time.

I asked Keegan if the YCS is what he expected, and he replied, “Not even close!”. Like Peter, Keegan was expecting about 100 players, and didn’t realize there would be so many.

I asked him what he’s looking forward to the most, and he replied, “Trying to get first place!”. Keegan was filled with the thrill of competition and couldn’t wait to get Dueling. He was running a Dragon/Dinosaur hybrid Deck this weekend, featuring his favorite monster, Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste. Check out Keegan holding up his favorite card!
