Round 11 Feature Match: Wesley Carter vs. Jake Quinsee

March 25th, 2012

Jake Quinsee is the National Champion of the United Kingdom, and he’s here today with an undefeated record, piloting Wind-Ups! His opponent is Wesley Carter, the only undefeated Gravekeeper Duelist here this weekend. We haven’t seen this matchup in a Feature Match this weekend, so this should be a show!

.

Duel One

Carter started the Match with Mystical Space Typhoon, Pot of Duality, Gravekeeper’s Commandant, Dark Hole, Gravekeeper’s Assailant, and Gravekeeper’s Stele. He pitched Commandant to get Necrovalley from his Deck, then activated Duality to reveal Sangan, Gravekeeper’s Descendant, and another Necrovalley from the top of his Deck; he added Descendant to his hand. Carter activated Necrovalley, then Set Typhoon and Summoned Descendant.

Quinsee Set a monster, then Set 2 cards to his Spell and Trap Card Zone.

Carter drew a second Gravekeeper’s Stele! He Summoned Assailant, knowing he could be aggressive with two copies of Stele. He Tributed Assailant to destroy Quinsee’s Set Mystical Space Typhoon, Quinsee Chained it, Carter Chained his targeted Typhoon, and Quinsee Chained a third Typhoon, destroying Necrovalley! The assembled crowd gave an audible gasp. Descendant attacked into Quinsee’s Set Sangan, which got him Tour Guide from the Underworld! “Solid play,” remarked Carter, complimenting his opponent. He Set two cards to his back row.

Quinsee Summoned Wind-Up Rabbit, then Set two cards to his Spell and Trap Card Zone.

Carter drew Solemn Judgment and attempted to attack Rabbit; he lost Descendant to Mirror Force. He got it back along with Commandant in Main Phase 2, thanks to Stele, and pitched Commandant to get another Necrovalley. Carter activated it, Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant, and Set Judgment, his hand now empty.

Quinsee drew to three cards in hand, with one back row Set and Wind-Up Rabbit on the field. He Summoned Tour Guide, and Special Summoned another Tour Guide in Defense Position. He stacked them to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity, and detached to Special Summon Wind-Up Magician in Defense Position. He ended.

Carter drew Torrential Tribute, but in his Standby Phase Quinsee activated Rabbit’s effect to banish itself, Special Summoning another Rabbit from his Deck with Wind-Up Magician’s ability. Carter flipped Stele in Main Phase 1, taking back his Commandant and Assailant, then Summoning Assailant. Assailant attacked Rabbit, leaving Quinsee to respond with its effect, jumping Magician out of the way. Assailant turned Rabbit to Attack Position with its ability. Because the number of monsters on Quinsee’s side of the field had changed, Carter was able to replay Assailant’s attack; he attacked Rabbit, turning Carrier to Attack Position, Rabbit was destroyed. When Descendant attacked Zenmaity, Quinsee turned Descendant face-down with Book of Moon. Carter Set a third Spell or Trap Card.

Quinsee Special Summoned back his Magician and his Rabbit. He activated Zenmaity’s effect, then Chained Magician’s ability, Special Summoning Wind-Up Shark and Wind-Up Hunter from his Deck. Quinsee Tributed Magician for Hunter’s effect, forcing Carter to send his one in-hand card to the Graveyard (the Commandant). He Normal Summoned Wind-Up Rat, and stacked it with Hunter for another Zenmaity. Quinsee used its effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Shark from his Deck, and Quinsee finally activated Torrential Tribute! Quinsee Chained Rabbit’s effect banishing itself before the field was cleared. Quinsee had two cards left, and Set one to his Spell and Trap Card Zone.

Carter drew Compulsory Evacuation Device and Set it.

Quinsee brought back his Rabbit, then Normal Summoned another! He attacked directly with both.

Carter Set his topdeck to his back row.

Quinsee attacked with his Rabbits again, then Set a monster.

Carter drew another Commandant, but when he tried to Summon it, Quinsee activated Solemn Warning. Carter forced through his Summon with Solemn Judgment. He attacked both of the Rabbits to make them jump away, then attacked Quinsee’s Set Maxx “C” to destroy it.

Quinsee brought back his Rabbits, then Set a single Spell or Trap.

Carter drew Bottomless Trap Hole. He attacked both Rabbits, each of them fleeing by banishing themselves, allowing Commandant to make a direct attack. The Duel stood at 1200 Life Points to 2800, with Quinsee leading. Carter Set another Spell or Trap.

Quinsee brought back his Rabbits, then took Gravekeeper’s Commandant with Mind Control! The Rabbit’s attacked to finish the Duel.

Jake Quinsee captures the first Duel, dominating the late game with a pair of Wind-Up Rabbits! Play quickly moved to the second contest.

Duel Two

Carter got things started, holding Thunder King Rai-Oh, Pot of Duality, Dimensional Prison, Torrential Tribute, Compulsory Evacuation Device, and Mirror Force. He activate Duality, revealing another Thunder King, Royal Tribute, and Rivalry of Warlords; he took another Thunder King. Carter Summoned it, then Set Compulsory Evacuation Device.

Quinsee tried to Special Summon Cyber Dragon, forcing Carter to negate the Summon with Thunder King Rai-Oh’s effect. He Summoned Wind-Up Rabbit and attacked, scoring a quick direct shot. He Set two cards to his back row.

Carter drew Necrovalley and Summoned his second Thunder King; Quinsee tried to banish it with Bottomless Trap Hole, and Carter Chained Compulsory Evacuation Device to get his Thunder King back. He Set Prison and activated Necrovalley.

Quinsee Summoned Tour Guide from the Underworld, then Special Summoned Sangan. He stacked Tour Guide and Sangan to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity, Special Summoning another Wind-Up Rabbit from his Deck. He attacked into Prison with Carrier, and then made two direct attacks with the Rabbits, dropping Carter to 3800 Life Points. Quinsee Set another Spell or Trap.

Carter drew Bottomless Trap Hole, and when he tried to Summon Solemn Warning, he lost Thunder King to Solemn Warning. Carter Set all his remaining cards, and in the End Phase Quinsee flipped Royal Decree!

Next turn Quinsee Normal Summoned Snowman Eater, activated Wind-Up Factory, and stacked Eater and a Rabbit to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity. He activated its effect, triggering Wind-Up Factory, he Special Summoned Wind-Up Hunter, and added Wind-Up Shark to his hand. He stacked Rabbit and Hunter for another Zenmaity, and Special Summoned Magician from his deck – Carter couldn’t stop him with that Decree on the field, and he knew it was the beginning of the end.

UK Champion Jake Quinsee moves on, still undefeated in this tournament! He’s now a lock for the Top 64 and the playoff rounds!
