Round 6 Feature Match: Joseph Bogli vs. John Gruchacz

March 25th, 2012

Joseph Bogli and John Gruchacz had alot in common. Both were piloting Dino Rabbit Decks, both were undefeated headed into Round 6, and both were looking a little tired from a long day of Dueling. Let’s take a look at how this huge Dino Rabbit mirror match played out!

Duel One

Bogli opened Round 6 with a hand of Smashing Ground, Mystical Space Typhoon, Effect Veiler, Dark Hole, Sabersaurus, and Solemn Judgment. He Set Typhoon.

Gruchacz Summoned Kabazauls, and attacked for 1700 Battle Damage. He ended his turn by Setting two cards to his back row.

Bogli drew Tour Guide from the Underworld and Normal Summoned Sabersaurus, attacking into Dimensional Prison. He activated Smashing Ground in Main Phase 2 to try and destroy Kabazauls, but Gruchacz rescued it by Chaining Forbidden Lance! Bogli Set a card to his Spell and Trap Card Zone.

Gruchacz attacked again with Kabazauls, and Set Book of Moon; he lost it in his End Phase to Bogli’s Mystical Space Typhoon.

Bogli drew another Typhoon, and destroyed Kabazauls with Dark Hole. He Summoned Tour Guide, but Gruchacz negated her effect with Effect Veiler! That left Gruchacz with two cards in hand; Bogli thought a moment, and made a direct attack… Right into Gorz the Emissary of Darkness!

Gruchacz turned Gorz to Attack Position on his turn, and ran over Tour Guide. Bogli dropped to 2900 Life Points.

Bogli drew Fiendish Chain and Set it.

Gruchacz turned Gorz to Defense Position, and shifted his Emissary of Darkness Token to attack. It made another direct shot.

Bogli drew Neo-Spacian Grand Mole and Normal Summoned it, attacking to bump itself off the field, along with Gruchacz’s Token.

Gruchacz debated a moment, then tried to Normal Summon Sabersaurus; Bogli negated the Summon with Solemn Judgment, and Gruchacz passed, not attacking with Gorz.

Bogli drew his own Gorz, and Summoned Neo-Spacian Grand Mole to attack and bounce Gorz. Both monsters were returned to their controllers’ hands, but when Gruchacz had another Kabazauls next turn, it was all over!

Neither Duelists manages to see a Rescue Rabbit, but John Gruchacz gets the longest end of a collectively short stick, and manages to hammer away with two copies of Kabazauls to secure the first win! Play moved to the second Duel.

Duel Two

This time around Bogli had Pot of Avarice, Sabersaurus, Spirit Reaper, Sangan, Mind Control, and Monster Reborn. He Set Reaper.

Gruchacz took it with Mind Control, then Summoned Tour Guide from the Underworld! He Special Summoned another copy, then Flip Summoned Spirit Reaper, using it with Tour Guide to Xyz Summon Number 17: Leviathan Dragon. Leviathan Dragon and Tour Guide attacked, for a combined total of 3500 Battle Damage.

Bogli drew Mystical Space Typhoon and considered his possible choices carefully; he wound up choosing to take control of Tour Guide with Mind Control, then Normal Summoned Sangan to Xyz Summon his own Number 17: Leviathan Dragon. He boosted it to 2500 ATK, then crashed it into his opponent’s Leviathan to destroy both. In Main Phase 2, he Special Summoned Reaper in Defense Position with Reborn, and Set Typhoon.

Gruchacz Summoned Rescue Rabbit! He banished it to Special Summon two copies of Sabersaurus, then used them to Xyz Summon Laggia. Gruchacz ended.

Bogli Normal Summoned another Tour Guide from the Underworld, and Gruchacz let it go! Bogli Special Summoned another Tour Guide from his Deck, and with two monsters in his Graveyard, used the Tour Guides for Wind-Up Zenmaines. Gruchacz negated the Summon, getting Bogli’s Graveyard to five monsters and giving him what he needed to activate Pot of Avarice! Bogli shuffled all his monsters back, then drew Dark Hole and Fiendish Chain. He Set Chain.

Gruchacz Set a monster.

Bogli drew Snowman Eater and Set it.

Gruchacz Summoned Kabazauls, then Flip Summoned the Kabazauls he’d Set last turn! He used them to Xyz Summon a second Laggia; Bogli had 4500 Life Points left. Gruchacz attacked into Snowman Eater, losing his fully-powered Laggia to the Eater’s effect! He Set Warning, but Bogli destroyed it with Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase.

Bogli drew and Set Dimensional Prison.

Gruchacz Set a Spell or Trap, and a monster.

Bogli drew Torrential Tribute and activated Dark Hole, destroying his Reaper, as well as Gruchacz’s Laggia and Set Sangan; Gruchacz used Sangan’s effect to get Effect Veiler from his Deck. Bogli Summoned Sabersaurus and attacked, finally scoring a hit on Gruchacz.

Gruchacz Special Summoned Cyber Dragon, and attacked into Dimensional Prison.

Bogli drew Rescue Rabbit! He attacked with Sabersaurus, not wanting to press his luck. He Set Torrential.

Gruchacz Set a monster, and Set another Spell or Trap.

Bogli drew Maxx “C” and Summoned Rescue Rabbit! He banished it, and Gruchacz Chained the effect of Maxx “C” himself! Bogli Special Summoned two Kabazauls, and Gruchacz wiped the field with Torrential Tribute, drawing with Maxx “C”!

Gruchacz Normal Summoned Neo-Spacian Grand Mole, and attacked for 900 Battle Damage to lower Bogli to 3600 Life Points. He Set another Spell or Trap.

Bogli drew Mystical Space Typhoon and shuffled it around in his hands a bit, alongside Maxx “C”. He Set the Typhoon.

Gruchacz hit him for another 900 Battle Damage next turn with Neo-Spacian Grand Mole.

Bogli drew Tour Guide from the Underworld! He tried to Summon her, but Gruchacz dropped to 2200 Life Points to negate her Summon with Solemn Warning.

Gruchacz activated Pot of Avarice, shuffling back his four Normal Monsters and a Laggia back into his deck to draw two. He attacked again with Neo-Spacian Grand Mole; Bogli flipped Fiendish Chain, but Gruchacz Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it. He Set Chain Disappearance, and Bogli destroyed it with Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase.

Bogli destroyed Grand Mole with Smashing Ground and ended.

Gruchacz Summoned Tour Guide, activated her effect, and when Bogli pitched Maxx “C”, Gruchacz found he’d mistakenly left his Sangan in the Graveyard when he’d played Pot of Avarice. He had nothing to Special Summon with Tour Guide! If Gruchacz hadn’t been fatigued from the long day of competition, he could’ve used Avarice on the previous turn to reload at least one Level 3 Fiend for Tour Guide, but exhaustion was clearly taking its toll on both competitors. Gruchacz was issued a warning, and play progressed; Tour Guide attacked.

Bogli drew Gorz and Set a monster.

Gruchacz turned Tour Guide to Defense Position.

Bogli drew and Set Heavy Storm.

Gruchacz passed, with nothing on the field but Tour Guide.

Bogli drew Rescue Rabbit! He Summoned it and activated its effect, Special Summoning two Sabersaurus! He Flip Summoned Maxx “C”, then attacked Tour Guide with Sabersaurus. Maxx “C” made a direct attack, and Gruchacz Special Summoned Gorz the Emissary of Darkness and an Emissary of Darkness Token! Bogli ran over the Token with Sabersaurus, then stacked his Dinosaurs to Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia in Defense Position. Gruchacz activated Heavy Storm! He activated Smashing Ground, and Bogli offered a handshake!

John Gruchacz moves on undefeated, with a 6-0 record!
