At every YCS, seems like somebody comes dressed in costume as one of their favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! characters. We’ve found two of them so far here this weekend: Isaac Samaniego as Jaden Yuki from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, and Amanda LaPalme as Akiza from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s.

We took a few minutes to ask them some quick questions about their plans for the weekend. Ladies first…

What made you want to dress as this character?
There was an anime convention going on today, so I figured if I drop from the tournament I’ll go over there!

What kind of deck are you using today?
Dragons

What’s your favorite card?
Prohibition! It’s in my side deck. It’s a good card, it forces out Mystical Space Typhoons, and if you’re a good player you know exactly what to stop. Even if you don’t know what you’re up against, it can always stop something like Heavy Storm. It’s a really flexible card.

What are your thoughts on the YCS?
I think it’s going to be really hectic with the updated rules, there’s going to be a lot of people using triple Effect Veiler and triple Trap Hole, then there’s going to be those people who predict that.

Did you come here with anyone?
I came here with my boyfriend, I got him into this game. I built him a burn deck, and he randomly got a feature match in Ohio! He’d never even been in a regional before that!

‘Cause I love Jaden! He’s just too awesome. I’m surprised no one else is here as him!

What Deck are you playing today?
Penguin Soldier with HEROes. We call it Jaden’s toolbox, it’s a bunch of random stuff.

What’s your favorite card?
Dark Magician Girl! Such a pretty card. [Editor’s note: Hang on – that’s the answer Jaden’s best buddy Syrus would give!]

What are your thoughts on the YCS?
It’s alright, but not everyone’s here yet. There should be a lot more people coming.
