Frazier Smith and Nizar Sarhan are both former YCS winners. Frazier Smith won YCS Atlanta in 2010 with his Gravekeeper’s Deck. Nizar Sarhan won YCS Dallas in 2011 with Samurais, shortly following Smith’s win. Now, Sarhan and Smith are facing off in a Dino Rabbit Mirror Match that will decide which Duelist advances to the Semifinals!

Sarhan opened up with Rescue Rabbit, banishing it to Summon 2 Kabazauls from his Deck. Then he combined his Kabazauls to Xyz Summon Evolzar Laggia. Sarhan Set Heavy Storm before ending his turn.

Smith opened up with Sabersaurus, Kabazauls, Rescue Rabbit, Torrential Tribute, Dimensional Prison, and Tour Guide From the Underworld. He Normal Summoned Tour Guide and activated its effect, but Sarhan negated it with Effect Veiler. Smith Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Sarhan  flipped his face-down Heavy Storm and destroyed Smith’s face-down Torrential Tribute and Dimensional Prison. When Sarhan Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld next, Smith conceded.

Nizar Sarhan Summons Rescue Rabbit on his first turn and Tour Guide From the Underworld on his second turn to knock Frazier Smith out of the Duel! Frazier Smith will be going first in Duel 2!

Smith opened up Duel 2 with Sabersaurus and 2 Set cards to his back row.

Sarhan Summoned his own Sabersaurus and attacked Smith’s Sabersaurus; but Smith flipped Dimensional Prison to banish Sarhan’s Sabersaurus and protect his own. Sarhan ended his turn without Setting anything to his back row.

[After the Match, I asked Sarhan why he chose not to Set the Bottomless Trap Hole he had in his hand. He said that he wanted to bluff Gorz. The bluff worked, because Smith chose not to attack Sarhan directly with Sabersaurus on the following turn.]

Smith Set 3 more cards to his back row and then passed his turn without attacking with Sabersaurus.

Sarhan drew Maxx “C” and Set Snowman Eater and Bottomless Trap Hole. In his End Phase, Smith used Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Bottomless Trap Hole.

Smith Normal Summoned Kabazauls and then combined it with Sabersaurus to make Evolzar Dolkka. Dolkka attacked Snowman Eater to destroy it, and negated its effect by detaching an Xyz Material.

Sarhan activated Smashing Ground to try to destroy Dolkka, but Smith Chained Forbidden Lance to protect it! Sarhan once again ended his turn with no cards on his field.

Smith attacked directly with Dolkka, dropping Sarhan down to 5700 Life Points.

Sarhan drew Effect Veiler. He activated Dark Hole to try to destroy Dolkka; but Smith flipped Solemn Judgment and gave up 4000 Life Points to negate it! Sarhan Summoned a Rescue Rabbit and activated its effect by banishing it, and Smith negated its effect with Dolkka.

Smith attacked directly with Dolkka and Sarhan dropped down to 3400 Life Points. Smith Set a monster before ending his turn.

Sarhan drew Tour Guide From the Underworld next turn. He Summoned it and activated its effect to Special Summon Sangan from his Deck. Next, he combined Sangan and Tour Guide to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon, and used Leviair’s effect by detaching Sangan from it. Sarhan Special Summoned his banished Rescue Rabbit and then banished it again in order to Special Summon 2 copies of Sabersaurus from his Deck. He combined his 2 Dinosaurs to make Evolzar Laggia and then used Laggia to attack and destroy Smith’s Dolkka.

Smith Flip Summoned Snowman Eater and tried to use its effect to destroy Laggia; but Sarhan discarded Effect Veiler to negate it! Next, Smith flipped his face-down Smashing Ground, and Sarhan negated it by detaching both Xyz Materials from Laggia. Smith used Mind Control to take control of Leviair next, and detached a material from it to activate its effect. Sarhan Chained Maxx “C”, and when Smith Special Summoned Rescue Rabbit, Sarhan drew Mirror Force. Next, Smith banished Rescue Rabbit to Special Summon 2 copies of Kabazauls from his Deck. Sarhan drew Heavy Storm thanks to the effect of Maxx “C”. Next, Smith combined his 2 Kabazauls to Summon Number 39: Utopia, allowing Sarhan to draw Bottomless Trap Hole. Utopia attacked and destroyed Sarhan’s Laggia, dropping Sarhan down to 3900 Life Points. In Smith’s End Phase, he returned Leviair to Sarhan.

Sarhan drew Kabazauls. He activated Heavy Storm to destroy Smith’s Mystical Space Typhoon and then Normal Summoned Kabazauls. Leviair and Kabazauls tried attacking Smith’s Attack Position Snowman Eater, but Smith negated both attacks by detaching Utopia’s Xyz Materials. Sarhan Set Mirror Force and Bottomless Trap Hole before ending his turn.

Smith activated Pot of Avarice next turn! He returned Evolzar Dolkka, Sabersaurus, and 3 copies of Kabazauls from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw 2 cards. Next, Smith switched his Snowman Eater to Defense Position and attacked Kabazauls with Utopia. Sarhan activated Mirror Force to destroy Utopia and protect Kabazauls! Smith activated Monster Reborn next, and revived Snowman Eater from Sarhan’s Graveyard. He combined both Snowman Eaters to Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon then activated its effect by detaching a Snowman Eater; but Sarhan Chained Maxx “C”! Smith Special Summoned Sarhan’s banished Sabersaurus and Sarhan drew Dimensional Prison. Smith Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Sarhan Summoned Neo-Spacian Grand Mole next turn! He switched Kabazauls to Defense Position and then attacked Leviair with his own Leviair. Smith flipped Mirror Force, and Sarhan’s Grand Mole and Leviair were destroyed! Sarhan Set Dimensional Prison before ending his turn.

Smith attacked Kabazauls with Leviair and Sarhan flipped Dimensional Prison to banish Leviair from the Duel. Next, Sabersaurus attacked and destroyed Sarhan’s Kabazauls.

Sarhan drew Rescue Rabbit next turn! He banished it to Special Summon 2 copies of Kabazauls from his Deck, and Smith Chained Maxx “C” to its effect to draw a card. Next, Sarhan combined his 2 Kabazauls to make Evolzar Laggia, and Smith drew another card. Laggia attacked over Sabersaurus and play passed to Smith.

Smith activated Dark Hole, and Sarhan negated it by detaching both Xyz Materials from Laggia. Next, Smith Summoned Rescue Rabbit and banished it to Special Summon 2 copies of Kabazauls from his Deck. Sarhan banished both copies with Bottomless Trap Hole! Smith Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Sarhan drew another Rescue Rabbit next turn. He attacked directly with Laggia and Smith dropped down to 1000 Life Points.

Smith drew and Summoned Rescue Rabbit next turn! He banished it to Special Summon 2 copies of Sabersaurus from his Deck and combined them to Xyz Summon Evolzar Laggia. Smith used Forbidden Lance to reduce Sarhan’s Laggia down to 1600 ATK, and then attacked over it with his own Laggia.

Sarhan drew Solemn Warning next turn. He Set it along with a Rescue Rabbit and passed.

Smith attacked and destroyed Rescue Rabbit with Laggia. He Set a card to his back row and then Set a monster.

Sarhan drew Snowman Eater and Set it.

Smith drew Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon Sangan from his Deck. He combined Sangan and Tour Guide to Summon Number 17: Leviathan Dragon and then detached Sangan to give it 500 ATK. Laggia attacked Snowman Eater, and Sarhan destroyed Number 17: Leviathan Dragon with its effect.

Sarhan drew Cyber Dragon next turn and conceded, unable to take down Laggia with its 2 Xyz Materials.

Frazier Smith uses Pot of Avarice to make a comeback and win Duel 2! Nizar Sarhan will be going first in Duel 3!

Sarhan opened up by Setting the devastating combination of Torrential Tribute and Sangan and then ended his turn.

Smith opened up with Sabersaurus and Sarhan flipped Torrential Tribute to clear the field. Sarhan searched his Deck for Spirit Reaper with his Sangan’s effect. Smith Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Sarhan drew Kabazauls next turn and Summoned Spirit Reaper. He attacked Smith with Reaper and Smith flipped Book of Moon to put the Reaper face-down. Sarhan Set Dimensional Prison before ending his turn.

Smith Set a card to his back row and Set a monster.

Sarhan drew Heavy Storm.  He Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh and attacked Smith’s face-down Snowman Eater. Snowman Eater destroyed Rai-Oh with its effect.

Smith Set a monster and passed.

Sarhan drew Effect Veiler and ended his turn.

Smith drew a card and passed.

Sarhan drew Sabersaurus. He Set Kabazauls and ended his turn.

Smith Summoned Kabazauls and attacked Sarhan’s face-down Spirit Reaper. He Set a card to his back row and then Flip Summoned Snowman Eater to destroy Sarhan’s Spirit Reaper. Next, he combined his 2 copies of Snowman Eater to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines in Defense Position.

Sarhan drew Effect Veiler next turn. He activated Heavy Storm and Smith Chained Forbidden Lance targeting Zenmaines. Sarhan’s Dimensional Prison and Smith’s Solemn Warning were destroyed by the Storm. Sarhan banished Thunder King Rai-Oh and Sangan from his Graveyard next, in order to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning! He used his Soldier’s effect to banish Wind-Up Zenmaines from the Duel, and then Flip Summoned Kabazauls. He Normal Summoned Sabersaurus and Smith activated Maxx “C” from his hand. Sarhan combined Sabersaurus with Kabazauls to Summon Evolzar Laggia, and Smith drew a card. Then Laggia attacked and destroyed Smith’s Kabazauls, and play passed to Smith.

Smith activated Smashing Ground and Sarhan negated it with Evolzar Laggia. He Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Sarhan drew Snowman Eater next turn. He switched Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning to Defense Position and then attacked directly with Laggia, dropping Smith down to 4900 Life Points.

Smith drew a card and passed.

Sarhan drew Mind Control and attacked once again with Laggia, dropping Smith down to 2500 Life Points.

Smith Summoned Maxx “C” and flipped Torrential Tribute to clear the field!

Sarhan drew Solemn Judgment next turn. He Set Solemn Judgment and Snowman Eater before passing.

Smith activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Solemn Judgment and then activated Pot of Avarice, returning Maxx “C”, 2 Snowman Eaters, a Kabazauls, and a Sabersaurus from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw 2 cards. He Summoned Rescue Rabbit next, and banished it to activate its effect. Sarhan Chained Maxx “C” from his hand, and when Smith Special Summoned 2 copies of Kabazauls from his Deck, Sarhan drew another Maxx “C”. Then Smith combined his Kabazauls to make Evolzar Dolkka, and Sarhan drew Torrential Tribute. Sarhan used Effect Veiler to negate Dolkka’s effect in his Main Phase, and Smith detached a material from Dolkka to negate the Effect Veiler; but Sarhan discarded a second Effect Veiler to negate Dolkka’s effect. That’s when time was called in the round! The Duel would end in 3 turns!

Smith continued his turn by attacking Sarhan’s face-down Snowman Eater with Evolzar Dolkka. Snowman Eater destroyed Dolkka with its effect.

Sarhan drew Kabazauls next turn and Summoned it to attack Frazier, bringing him down to 800 Life Points.

Smith drew a card, and Sarhan discarded Maxx “C” from his hand in the Draw Phase since it was Smith’s final turn in overtime. Sarhan still had 8000 Life Points remaining, so Smith needed to deal at least 7200 points of damage to Sarhan. Smith activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Sarhan’s face-down Torrential Tribute, and then Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon another Tour Guide from his Deck. He combined his Tour Guides to Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon and used Leviair’s effect to Special Summon Rescue Rabbit. He banished Rescue Rabbit to Special Summon 2 copies of Sabersaurus, and then combined his 2 copies of Sabersaurus to make Number 39: Utopia. Smith upgraded his Utopia into Number C39: Utopia Ray. Sarhan drew a total of 6 cards thanks to Maxx “C”, but he didn’t need the cards. Smith detached all 3 materials from Number C39: Utopia Ray to boost it to 4000 ATK and reduce Kabazauls to 0 ATK, and then attacked over Kabazauls for 4000 points of damage! Then Leviair attacked directly, dropping Sarhan down to 2200 Life Points. But it wasn’t enough!

Sarhan drew a card, and with the highest Life Points, won the Duel in overtime by ending his turn.
