Round 4 Round-Up!

April 14th, 2012

I’ve rounded up 8 more undefeated Duelists to see how they fared in the fourth round of the tournament. Take a look at which Duelists and Decks came out on top in Round 4 of the tournament!

At Table 1, Billy Brake used his Wind-Up Deck to defeat Jesus Guerra’s Chaos Dragon Deck 2-1!

In Duel 1, Guerra used Gold Sarcophagus to get Future Fusion, but Brake stopped it with Solemn Warning after Guerra tried to activate it. Without Future Fusion, the power of Guerra’s Deck was stifled. Brake defeated Guerra with his Wind-Up Monsters, even though Guerra used Maxx “C” to stop the Wind-Up Hunter loop.

In Duel 2, Guerra used all 3 of his Alexandrite Dragons to beat down Brake. Brake destroyed the first 2, but had no answer to the third one. Guerra eventually Special Summoned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon (after sending it and Red-Eyes Wyvern to the Graveyard with Card Trooper early on) and Brake couldn’t destroy it.

In Duel 3, Brake ended his first turn with 2 copies of Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity and a Wind-Up Hunter on the field, as well as a Fiendish Chain face-down. Guerra used Future Fusion on his first turn and Summoned Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning. Black Luster Soldier attacked, but was stopped by Fiendish Chain. Guerra Set a monster and Summoned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon in the End Phase with his Wyvern’s effect. Next turn, Brake Xyz Summoned Leviair the Sea Dragon and used its effect to Special Summon a Wind-Up Hunter that he banished that turn with the effect of Wind-Up Rabbit. He used the Hunter to force Guerra to send a Veiler from his hand to his Graveyard. Brake used Pot of Avarice and Summoned Wind-Up Zenmaines before using Dark Hole later in the turn. Zenmaines destroyed Guerra’s only back row with its effect, and Brake won on his next turn.

At Table 2, Nicholas Wei defeated Abel Carrasco 2-1 in a Dino Rabbit Mirror Match!

In Duel 1, Wei Summoned Rescue Rabbit first turn and used its effect to Special Summon 2 Dinosaurs and make Evolzar Laggia. Carrasco destroyed the first Laggia by forcing Laggia to negate a Heavy Storm and then using his own Rescue Rabbit to make Number 39: Utopia. Wei later clinched a victory by using Pot of Avarice and Summoning Tour Guide From the Underworld. Tour Guide helped to make Leviair the Sea Dragon, which Special Summoned a Rescue Rabbit that helped to make Number 39: Utopia. Wei’s Utopia attacked Carrasco’s Utopia and Carrasco negated the attack. On the next turn, Wei’s Leviair, which was protected from attacks on the previous turn thanks to Utopia, was able to Special Summon Rescue Rabbit back to the field and cause Carrasco to concede.

In Duel 2, Carrasco Summoned Laggia first turn thanks to Rescue Rabbit and Set 2 back rows. Wei tried to come back with Snowman Eater. Carrasco used Mind Control to try to take control of it, and Wei paid 4000 Life Points to Solemn Judgment to negate the Mind Control. On Carrasco next turn, he drew Tour Guide From the Underworld. He used it to make Leviair the Sea Dragon and Wei conceded.

In Duel 3, Wei Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh first turn and Set 2 cards to his back row. Carrasco opened up with 3 copies of Tour Guide From the Underworld. He Summoned one and lost out on its effect to Forbidden Chalice. Rai-Oh attacked over Tour Guide. Wei Summoned another Tour Guide next turn and Special Summoned Sangan from his Deck with its effect. He tried to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines, but its Summon was negated by Rai-Oh. Wei tried to Summon Kabazauls next turn and Carrasco used Solemn Warning to negate its Summon. Next turn, Carrasco Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and attacked with it. Wei Summoned and banished Rescue Rabbit; but Carrasco Chained Vanity’s Emptiness to stop its effect! Carrasco attacked with Tour Guide next turn, and play passed to Wei. Wei used Dark Hole, clearing the field and getting rid of Vanity’s Emptiness. Then he used Tour Guide to Special Summon another Fiend and Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon. Leviair Special Summoned Rescue Rabbit, whose effect Special Summoned 2 Kabazauls. Wei attacked with his monsters for 5200 points of damage while Carrasco was at 5100 Life Points.

At Table 3, Thai Pham’s Blackwing Deck defeated Kelly Benjamin’s Gemini HERO Deck 2-1!

In Duel 1, Benjamin took an early lead by using cards like Gemini Spark and Elemental HERO Stratos to add cards to his hand. He eventually Summoned Elemental HERO The Shining and Pham couldn’t mount a comeback.

In Duel 2, Benjamin was close to victory with Elemental HERO The Shining on the field when Pham defended himself with Number 39: Utopia. Pham Summoned Blackwing – Blizzard the Far North next turn and Benjamin used Solemn Warning to negate its Summon and drop Benjamin down to 4800 Life Points. Then Pham used Puppet Plant to take control of Elemental HERO The Shining! Direct attacks from The Shining and Utopia ended the Duel! “I totally forgot that card existed,” Benjamin told me. “I wish I had seen Puppet Plant coming.”

In Duel 3, a back and forth Duel that involved a lot of back rows that destroyed monsters, ended when Pham’s Thunder King Rai-Oh struck the field and made a Duel-ending attack.

At Table 4, Lawrence Benefield’s T.G. Deck Defeated Bobby Brake’s Dino Rabbit Deck 2-1!

In Duel 1, Brake had Evolzar Laggia on the field to Benefield’s T.G. Warwolf and 4 back rows. Laggia attacked Warwolf, and Benefield used Magic Cylinder while Brake was at 3200 Life Points. Brake Chained Forbidden Lance on his Laggia, and then Benefield used Horn of the Phantom Beast. Brake negated it with Laggia, but Benefield flipped another Horn of the Phantom Beast! Brake activated Book of Moon to try to put the Warwolf face-down, but Benefield activated Solemn Judgment to negate it! Warwolf won the battle, Laggia was destroyed, and Benefield drew a card. Brake couldn’t recover.

In Duel 2, Brake Set Solemn Judgment and ended his turn. Benefield Summoned T.G. Rush Rhino and attacked for 2000 points of damage before Benefield Set 4 back rows. Brake used Heavy Storm. Benefield thought he could stop it with Solemn Judgment, but Brake used his own Solemn Judgment to negate Benefield’s Solemn Judgment, and Benefield never recovered.

In Duel 3, Benefield Set 2 cards to his back row and Summoned Photon Saber Tiger. Brake opened up with Book of Moon, Forbidden Lance, 2 copies of Kabazauls, and 2 Sabersaurus. Brake Summoned Sabersaurus and attacked over Photon Saber Tiger. He Set Book of Moon and Lance, but lost both to Mystical Space Typhoons, leaving him with nothing but Normal Monsters! Brake almost fought back, but ultimately never recovered. Benefield eventually won by tuning T.G. Striker with T.G. Warwolf and Photon Saber Tiger to make Thought Ruler Archfiend. Although Brake managed to destroy it once with Dark Hole, Benefield returned it to the field with Monster Reborn and Brake couldn’t destroy it a second time.

Billy Brake, Nicholas Wei, Thai Pham, and Lawrence Benefield are moving on with 4-0 records!
