Welcome to YCS Chicago – the 2012 edition!

We’re expecting a great turnout this weekend, as 646 players arrived for preregistration on Friday. The tally has passed 950 already this morning, and registration is still ongoing. We should clock in around 1100 players once the dust settles. This has already beaten the attendance for 2010’s YCS held in the Windy City!

This is the first major tournament where Starter Deck: Xyz Symphony is legal for play, adding some new Xyz Monsters to everybody’s arsenal. Will we see Maestroke the Symphony Djinn and his merry band in action?

This will also be the last major event before Galactic Overlord hits the tournament scene. In fact, the Galactic Overlord Sneak Peak is this very weekend, so some Duelists in the hall here will be opening up their very own GAOV booster packs on Sunday. With the powerful Hieratic Dragon dynasty, plus new support for existing decks, Galactic Overlord is sure to make waves in the coming weeks.

And finally, this is the first premier event to sport the new updates to the Advanced Rules for fast effects. Be sure and check it out if you’ve missed the latest news, since these updated rules will be used from now on in all tournaments, so make sure you know them well!
