Khiem Huynh, from Ellicott City, Maryland, is Dueling against Cordero Spencer from Chicago, Illinois in our Round 1 Feature Match! Huynh is using a Dragon Deck, which Summons big monsters like Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and Lightpulsar Dragon. Spencer is using a LIGHT Deck that Summons equally big Lightrays. He’s using 2 copies each of the new Lightray Diabolos, Lightray Gearfried, and Lightray Daedalus from Galactic Overload. This should be an exciting Match full of big monsters!
Duel 1
Spencer opened up with Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Judgment Dragon, Jain, Lightsworn Paladin, Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner, and 2 copies of Lightray Daedalus. He Summoned Jain and passed, sending Judgment Dragon and Solar Recharge from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard.
Huynh Set a card to each zone and passed.
Spencer drew and Summoned Ehren, Lightsworn Monk, and Huynh negated its effect with Effect Veiler! He attacked Huynh’s face-down monster with Jain. It was a Ryko, and its effect destroyed Ehren and sent Book of Moon and 2 copies of Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress from the top of Huynh’s Deck to his Graveyard. Spencer ended his turn by sending Dark Hole and Lumina from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Jain’s effect in the End Phase.
Huynh Set a card to his back row and passed.
Spencer drew Necro Gardna. He attacked with Jain to drop Huynh down to 6200 Life Points and then ended his turn, sending Ryko and Necro Gardna from the top of his Deck to this Graveyard with Jain’s effect.
Huynh passed without making a play.
Spencer drew Book of Moon and then attacked with Jain, dropping Huynh down to 4400 Life Points. Spencer Set a Necro Gardna and Book of Moon before ending his turn. In his End Phase, Huynh destroyed the face-down Book of Moon with Mystical Space Typhoon and Spencer sent Pot of Avarice and Effect Veiler from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Jain.
Huynh Set a card to his back row and passed.
Spencer drew Lightray Diabolos and Summoned it! (Spencer had exactly 5 different LIGHT monsters in his Graveyard: Effect Veiler, Ryko, Lumina, Ehren, and Judgment Dragon!) He activated its effect, but Huynh used Effect Veiler to negate it. Next, Spencer attacked directly with Jain to drop Huynh down to 2600 Life Points, and Diabolos attacked directly to end the Duel with its 2800 ATK!
Huynh doesn’t draw much in Duel 1, allowing Spencer to finally take him down with Lightray Diabolos! Huynh will be going first in Duel 2!
Duel 2
Huynh started off Duel 2 with Dark Hole, Bottomless Trap Hole, Effect Veiler, Eclipse Wyvern, Ryko, and Darkflare Dragon. He Normal Summoned Eclipse Wyvern and Set Bottomless Trap Hole to his back row before ending his first turn.
Cordero opened up with Heavy Storm, Monster Reincarnation, Card Trooper, Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Effect Veiler, and Lightray Diabolos. He activated Heavy Storm to destroy Huynh’s face-down Bottomless Trap Hole and then Normal Summoned Card Trooper. He activated its effect by sending Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and 2 copies of Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard, and Huynh discarded Effect Veiler to negate Card Trooper’s effect so that it wouldn’t gain ATK. Next, Spencer used Monster Reincarnation to return Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning from his Graveyard to his hand by discarding Gorz. He banished Lyla and Gorz from his Graveyard to Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning. Then he attacked Eclipse Wyvern with Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning to destroy the Wyvern and drop Huynh down to 6600 Life Points. Wyvern’s effect activated to banish Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from Huynh’s Deck. Next, Spencer attacked directly with his Soldier to drop Huynh down to 3600 Life Points, and Card Trooper attacked directly to bring him down to 3200 Life Points.
Huynh used Dark Hole to clear the field, and Spencer drew Book of Moon with his Card Trooper’s effect. Huynh Set a monster before passing.
Spencer drew and activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning from his Graveyard. He used its effect to banish Huynh’s face-down Ryko and then Set Book of Moon to his back row before ending his turn.

Spencer drew Lightray Gearfried and then activated his Soldier’s effect to banish Huynh’s face-down Honest.
Huynh Set a card to his back row and passed.
Spencer drew Dark Hole and attacked with Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning. Huynh tried to destroy it with Mirror Force; but Spencer used Book of Moon to put his Soldier face-down and protect it.
Huynh drew Future Fusion next turn! He activated it to send Eclipse Wyvern, Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, and 2 Divine Dragon Apocralyphs from his Deck to his Graveyard. Then he used his Wyvern’s effect to banish Dark Armed Dragon from his Deck. He banished Eclipse Wyvern and an Apocralyph to Summon Lightpulsar Dragon from his hand and used Wyvern’s effect to add Dark Armed Dragon from his banished zone to his hand. With exactly 3 DARK monsters in his Graveyard, he Special Summoned Dark Armed Dragon! Then he banished his other Wyvern from his Graveyard, along with another Divine Dragon Apocralyph, to Summon Darkflare Dragon. Wyvern’s effect returned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his banished zone to his hand. Next, Huynh banished Darkflare from his field to Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon. He used its effect to Special Summon Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon from his Graveyard, and then banished Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Graveyard to try to destroy Spencer’s face-down Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning; but Spencer used Effect Veiler to negate its effect. Instead, Dark Armed Dragon attacked and destroyed Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, and then Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, Lightpulsar Dragon, and Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon attacked directly to bring Spencer down to 500 Life Points!
Spencer drew Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior. He used Dark Hole to clear the field, but Lightpulsar Dragon’s effect returned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to Huynh’s field. Spencer Set Garoth and passed.
On his next turn, Spencer used his Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Lightpulsar Dragon, and then attacked the face-down Garoth with his Red-Eyes. A direct attack from Lightpulsar Dragon finished Spencer off!
Khiem Huynh uses Future Fusion to mount a tremendous comeback and win Duel 2! Spencer will be going first in Duel 3!
Duel 3
Spencer opened up with 2 copies of Jain, Lightsworn Paladin, Card Trooper, Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Monster Reincarnation, and Lightray Diabolos. He Summoned Jain and used its effect to send Solar Recharge and Judgment Dragon from his Deck to his Graveyard in the End Phase.
Huynh Summoned Lyla and Set 2 cards to his back row. In his End Phase, he sent Bottomless Trap Hole, Torrential Tribute, and Divine Dragon Apocralyph from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard.
Spencer drew Electric Virus and then Normal Summoned Card Trooper. He used its effect to send Monster Reborn, Monster Reincarnation, and Charge of the Light Brigade from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Then he attacked with Jain, and Huynh flipped Mirror Force to destroy Jain and Card Trooper! Card Trooper’s effect got Cordero a Book of Moon from the top of his Deck.
Huynh Summoned Effect Veiler next turn and Tuned it with Lyla to Summon Ally of Justice Catastor. He attacked directly with it, and after dropping Spencer down to 5800 Life Points, Spencer Special Summoned Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, along with an Emissary of Darkness Token!
Spencer drew another Electric Virus next turn. He attacked and destroyed Catastor with Gorz, and then attacked directly with his Token to bring Huynh down to 5300 Life Points. He Set a Book of Moon before passing.
[Electric Virus is a great card to Side Deck against Dragons, because it can take control of an opponent’s strongest Dragon.]
Huynh Set a monster and passed.
Spener drew Dark Hole. He attacked Huynh’s face-down monster with his Token; it was a Ryko! Ryko’s effect destroyed Gorz and sent Effect Veiler, Charge of the Light Brigade, and Eclipse Wyvern from the top of Huynh’s Deck to his Graveyard. He used his Wyvern’s effect to banish Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Deck.
Huynh banished Eclipse Wyvern and Ally of Justice Catastor to Special Summon Lightpulsar Dragon from his hand, and used his Wyvern’s effect to return his banished Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to his hand. Then he banished his Lightpulsar Dragon to Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and used its effect to Special Summon another Lightpulsar Dragon from his hand. Lightpulsar Dragon attacked and destroyed Spencer’s Token, and then Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon attacked directly.
Huynh used D.D. Crow to banish Gorz from Spencer’s Graveyard, but it was all over for Huynh on Spencer’s next turn! Spencer discarded 2 copies of Electric Virus and attacked directly with Lightpulsar Dragon and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, eliminating the last 5300 Life Points that Huynh had!
Cordero Spencer wins 2-1 to advance in the tournament with a 1-0 record using Lightrays!
