Round 2 Round-Up!
We’re in the second round of the tournament, and half of the field of Duelists has undefeated records. Take a look at how our Duelists at the Top 4 Tables are doing!
At Table 1, Robert Stargel used his Hieratic Deck to defeat Daniel Chiusano’s Inzektor Deck 2-1!
In Duel 1, Chiusano opened up with 3 back rows and a face-down Inzektor Hornet. He later used the Hornet to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines, but lost it to Stargel’s Compulsory Evacuation Device. Eventually, Stargel used Trap Stun to pin down all of Chiusano’s back rows and then deal over 8000 damage in one turn, with an ending field of 2 copies of Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, Hieratic Dragon of Su, and Gorz the Emissary of Darkness. The Gaia Chargers attacked 2 Ojama Tokens that Stargel Summoned to Chiusano’s field with Ojama Trio in order to deal enough damage for Stargel to win.
In Duel 2, Chiusano lost his Inzektor Hornet to a D.D. Crow and lost a Dragonfly to Stargel’s Chaos Trap Hole, but still managed to recover. With an opening hand of 2 copies of Solemn Warning, a Chaos Trap Hole, a Solemn Judgment, D.D. Crow, and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, Stargel couldn’t make any plays that would push him into the lead.
In Duel 3, Stargel Tribute Summoned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon by Tributing Gorz and an Emissary of Darkness Token. Then he Special Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Eset from his Graveyard with his Dragon’s effect, Tributed Eset to Summon Hieratic Dragon of Su, and used Eset’s effect to Special Summon Luster Dragon #2. Next, he banished Su to Special Summon another Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, and used its effect to Special Summon Eset and use its effect to match Luster Dragon’s Level. He combined his Dragons to Xyz Summoned Hieratic Dragon King of Atum. He won that turn, with 2 copies of Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and 2 Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger on the field.
At Table 2, Jason Simmons used his Elemental HERO Deck to defeat David Elliott’s Inzektor Deck 2-1!
In Duel 1, Simmons was able to stop each of Elliott’s monsters with Spell & Trap Cards like Hero Blast and Gemini Spark. Direct attacks from Elemental HERO Stratos and Elemental HERO Neos Alius eventually finished Elliott off.
In Duel 2, Elliott defeated Simmons on his second turn! He Summoned Inzektor Centipede and when Simmons used Trap Hole, Elliott used Safe Zone to protect it! Simmons tried to Chain Hero Blast to destroy Centipede and return an Elemental HERO Neos Alius that he sent to the Graveyard with Future Fusion, but Elliott used Solemn Judgment to negate the Hero Blast. Elliott proceeded to defeat Simmons with some help from Inzektor Giga-Mantis.
In Duel 3, Simmons opened up with Stratos and a couple of Trap Cards to give him a good start. Elliott used Messenger of Peace and Set 2 cards before passing. Later in the Duel, Simmons used Heavy Storm to destroy 3 of Elliott’s back rows, including the Messenger of Peace. With Messenger of Peace out of the way, Simmons used Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and Elemental HERO Neos Alius to win the Duel and the Match!
At Table 3, Anthanasios Pirpiris defeated Khadeem Eleazer 2-1 in an Inzektor Mirror Match!
In Duel 1, Eleazer started off with Safe Zone, Mystical Space Typhoon, Forbidden Lance, Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, and Effect Veiler. With none of the Inzektors he needed to make an aggressive play, Pirpiris stomped him with his hand of Inzektor Dragonfly, Inzektor Centipede, Inzektor Hopper, Effect Veiler, Compulsory Evacuation Device, and Book of Moon. Once Pirpiris grabbed an Inzektor Hornet from his Deck by sending his Hopper on his Centipede to the Graveyard, it was downhill for Eleazer as he fell victim to Pirpiris’s Inzektor combos.
In Duel 2, Eleazer used his Side Decked cards to seal the victory. He eventually used Wiseman’s Chalice to take Pirpiris’s Inzektor Centipede, equipped it with Hornet by using its effect, destroyed Leviair by sending Hornet to the Graveyard, used Centipede’s effect to get Inzektor Dragonfly from his Deck, and Normal Summoned Inzektor Dragonfly to the field. He used Dragonfly to start swarming the field with even more Inzektors and win the Duel.
In Duel 3, Pirpiris used Effect Veiler to stop an Inzektor monster’s effect and add a LIGHT monster to his Graveyard. From there, he was able to banish his Effect Veiler along with an Inzektor Hornet – the only 2 monsters in Pirpiris’s Graveyard – to Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning! Pirpiris used Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning to win the Duel and the Match!
At Table 4, Keith Chamberland used his Dino Rabbit Deck to defeat Kevin Nguyen Dark World Deck 2-0!
In Duel 1, Chamberland made a big play with Heavy Storm that eventually led to his victory. “I took a risk by dropping Heavy Storm when he had 5 back rows and The Gates of Dark World on the field.” But Nguyen didn’t have Starlight Road, and was only able to Chain 1 Reckless Greed before losing the rest of his Spell & Trap Cards. Following the Heavy Storm, Chamberland was able to Summon Guaiba and attack over Beige to destroy it and Summon another Guaiba from his Deck. He Xyz Summoned Evolzar Laggia, protected by a Dimensional Prison. Nguyen couldn’t take down Chamberland’s Laggia, allowing Chamberland to win the first Duel.
In Duel 2, Nguyen used Dragged Down into the Grave to discard Heavy Storm from Chamberland’s hand, and used Mind Crush to discard his Rabbit; but Chamberland was able to Summon Evolzar Laggia anyway! He used Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Nguyen’s back rows and then Summoned a Guaiba, using it to attack over a Beige and Summon a second Guaiba. He Xyz Summoned Laggia, and Nguyen couldn’t immediately destroy it. Next turn, Chamberland drew Monster Reborn to Special Summon Rescue Rabbit and used its effect to Summon 2 Kabazauls from his Deck and Xyz Summon a second Laggia, sealing the second Duel!
It’s important to always be mindful of an opponent’s Jurrac Guaiba when Dueling. If you leave a monster with under 1700 ATK on the field and your opponent is using Jurrac Guaiba in his Deck, your opponent might attack over your monster with a Guaiba to quickly Summon Evolzar Laggia or Evolzar Dolkka and seal the Duel. That’s what happened to Nguyen in both Duels of this Match.
Robert Stargel, Jason Simmons, Anthanasios Pirpiris, and Keither Chamberland are moving on to Round 3 with 2-0 records!
