Round 6 Round-Up!

May 20th, 2012

Check out how 8 more of our undefeated Duelists fared in Round 8!

At Table 1, Miguel Candelario used his Inzektor Deck to defeat Ciro Fattore’s Dark World Deck 2-1!

In Duel 1, Candelario used his Inzektor Dragonfly to obliterate Fattore’s field and swarm the field with Inzektors before forcing Fattore to concede.

In Duel 2, Fattore used Heavy Storm to try to destroy 4 of Candelario’s back rows, and Candelario paid 4000 Life Points to negate it with Solemn Judgment. Even though Candelario was able to protect his back rows, he wasn’t able to stop Candelario from Summoning 2 Graphas and a Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World to win the Duel later on.

In Duel 3, Candelario activated Dimensional Fissure and Set 3 cards to his back row. Unable to destroy Dimensional Fissure, Fattore was unable to exploit the power of his Dark World army and eventually lost the final Duel and the Match.

At Table 2, Alistar Albans used his Inzektor Deck to beat Ivan Osick’s Gravekeeper’s Deck 2-1!

In Duel 1, Osick kept Necrovalley on the field in order to make the Duel difficult for Albans. Albans used Inzektor Dragonfly and equipped it with an Inzektor Hornet that he had in his hand, and then Osick used Effect Veiler on Inzektor Dragonfly. Inzektor Hornet fell off of the Dragonfly and into the Graveyard as a result of Dragonfly’s effect being negated. Once placed in the Graveyard, Necrovalley stopped the Hornet from ever returning. Subsequently, Albans was slowly defeated by an army of Gravekeeper’s.

[Using Effect Veiler after Albans’s Inzektor was equipped with Hornet was a great play for Osick. It got rid of the Hornet for good, since Albans couldn’t return it from the Graveyard with Necrovalley on the field.]

In Duel 2, Albans flipped Trap Stun and swarmed the field with Inzektors by using Inzektor Dragonfly, Inzektor Hornet, and Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber. Albans sided in 2 Trap Stuns against Osick, and the Side Deck decision paid off as it allowed Albans to quickly win Duel 2.

In Duel 3, Albans stalled behind Safe Zone, protecting an Inzektor Dragonfly until he was able to make a Number 30: Acid Golem that eventually attacked over Osick’s monsters to win him the Duel. Gravekeeper’s Decks can have a tough time taking down a 3000 ATK monster. Albans lost 4000 Life Points with his Acid Golem’s effect in order to keep it on the field and attacking, but the loss of Life Points was a small price to pay for winning the Duel with Acid Golem.

At Table 3, Marshaun Lugo used his Dino Rabbit Deck to defeat Ricardo Navarro’s Dark World Deck 2-1!

In Duel 1, Navarro used Card Destruction with 4 Dark World monsters in his hand and managed to Summon Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis by combining 2 Graphas later in the Duel. Lugo tried to fight out of it, but he was no Match for Navarro’s army of the Dark World.

In Duel 2, Lugo Chained Macro Cosmos to Dragged Down into the Grave to deprive Navarro of the effects of his Dark World monsters. Dark World monsters need to be discarded to the Graveyard in order to use their effects, so by banishing them with Macro Cosmos, a Duelist can completely cripple a Dark World Deck. Navarro wasn’t able to destroy Macro Cosmos until much later in the Duel, and by that point it was too late for him to mount a comeback – his Dark World army lost too many of its members to the banished zone.

In Duel 3, Lugo used Heavy Storm to destroy 2 of Navarro’s back rows on his first turn and then Summoned Evolzar Dolkka with Rescue Rabbit. Navarro hid behind Spirit Reaper for 2 turns, but had no cards to Set to his back row. That gave Lugo the time he needed to Normal Summon 2 more copies of Kabazauls, and combine them to Xyz Summon Photon Papilloperative! Photon Papilloperative’s effect targeted Spirit Reaper to destroy it, and Lugo finally began making some direct attacks! It was all over next turn, when Lugo Summoned a Tour Guide From the Underworld alongside his Photon Papilloperative and Evolzar Dolkka, and Navarro had nothing to use to defend himself.

At our last featured table of undefeated Duelists, Jamal Lagrant defeated Oliver Tomajko 2-0 in a Dino Rabbit Mirror Match!

In Duel 1, Lagrant used Jurrac Guaiba Summon another copy and make Evolzar Laggia. Tomajko used Dark Hole, but Lagrant used Lance to protect it. He then tried to destroy it by Summoning a stronger monster with Monster Reborn, but the Monster Reborn was negated by Laggia’s effect. Finally, Tomajko Summoned Rescue Rabbit, hoping to pull of its effect, but was stopped by Effect Veiler! After several foiled attempts to triumph, Tomajko was defeated in Duel 1.

In Duel 2, Lagrant managed to Summon Evolzar Dolkka while Tomajko had Gorz in his hand. Tomajko was able to negate its effect and prevent it from attacking by using Fiendish Chain, but Lagrant Summoned another Dolkka next turn by using Tour Guide From the Underworld to make Leviair the Sea Dragon and bring back Rescue Rabbit. Tomajko was able to destroy the Dolkka with Thunder King Rai-Oh and Forbidden Lance, and Lagrant destroyed the Rai-Oh with Snowman Eater. Lagrant later Xyz Summoned Number 17: Leviathan Dragon by using Snowman Eater. Several turns later, Tomajko Summoned an Evolzar Laggia and Lagrant took control of it with Electric Virus to help him win the second Duel and the Match!

Miguel Candelario, Alistar Albans, Marshaun Lugo, and Jamal Lagrant are moving on in the tournament with perfect 6-0 records!
