WCQ Round 4 Round-Up

June 30th, 2012

Welcome to Round 4! Check out how the Duelists at the top 4 Tables did this time!

At Table 1, Justin Harrell used his Inzektor Deck to defeat Raheel Merali’s Chaos Deck 2-1!

In Duel 1, Harrell used Spirit Reaper to knock 2 cards out of Merali’s hand early in the Duel, giving him a lead that Merali Harrell couldn’t catch up with.

In Duel 2, Harrell lost his face-down Ryko to Mind Control and then used Ryko’s effect to destroy one of Harrell’s back rows. He Tuned Ryko with Genex Ally Birdman to Synchro Summon Ally of Justice Catastor, and although the Catastor fell to the Graveyard soon after, it was critical to Merali’s victory. He revived Catastor with Monster Reborn later in the Duel to win with it.

In Duel 3, Merali had Wind-Up Zenmaines (with 1 Xyz Material attached), Spirit Reaper, and Gravekeeper’s Descendant on the field against Harrell’s face-down Call of the Haunted and Mystical Space Typhoon. When he entered his Battle Phase, Harrell used Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Number 17: Leviathan Dragon from his Graveyard with 2000 ATK. Merali used Book of Moon to put the Leviathan Dragon face-down and then destroyed it with Descendant. Next, Reaper attacked directly and Merali lost Call of the Haunted from hand due to Reaper’s effect. Then Zenmaines attacked, and Harrell used Mystical Space Typhoon on his own face-up Call of the Haunted and Special Summoned Gorz the Emissary of Darkness! Harrell’s Gorz turned the Duel around. He used Gorz and his Emissary of Darkness Token to destroy Zenmaines and eventually take the victory.

[After the Match, Harrell realized that he could’ve attacked over Reaper with Gorz and its Token to win the Duel right after he Summoned Gorz, instead of attacking Zenmaines to try to gain control. He also realized that he could’ve waited for Spirit Reaper to attack before activating Call of the Haunted, in order to prevent the Reaper from knocking a card out of his hand.]

At Table 2, William Wilson used his Chaos Dragon Deck to defeat Frank Grantham’s Wind-Up Deck 2-0!

In Duel 1, Grantham tried to pull off the Wind-Up Hunter combo, but was stopped by Wilson’s Effect Veiler. He also lost his Wind-Up Factory to Mystical Space Typhoon after Summoning Wind-Up Rabbit. After using the perfect cards to counter Grantham’s plays, Wilson took the victory with his Lightpulsar Dragon / Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon combo.

In Duel 2, Grantham tried to use the Wind-Up Hunter loop again, but Wilson activated Maxx “C” to stop it from sending his hand to the Graveyard. The next time he tried to pull off the loop, Wilson used Effect Veiler. Just like in Duel 1, Wilson drew the exact cards he needed to stop Grantham’s plays, and then used his Dragons, including Lightpulsar Dragon, Darkflare Dragon, and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, to win the Duel and the Match.

At Table 3, Adrian Shakir used his Wind-Up Deck to defeat Steven Veit-Quiles’s Chaos Deck 2-1!

In Duel 1, Shakir opened up with a slow hand and Veit-Quiles overpowered him. He used Thunder King Rai-Oh to control the Duel and negated Shakir’s Wind-Up Rat’s effect with Effect Veiler. Thunder King Rai-Oh kept attacking while Veit-Quiles’s and then a Tour Guide finished the Duel after Rai-Oh got Shakir low enough in Life Points!

In Duel 2, Shakir Summoned a first-turn Zenmaity and Wind-Up Rabbit thanks to Tour Guide From the Underworld. Veit-Quiles tried to retaliate with his own Tour Guide, and when Shakir used Solemn Judgment to negate its Summon, Veit-Quiles fought back with Dark Hole to clear the field; but Shakir saved the Rabbit with its effect and when Shakir Summoned Spirit Reaper next turn and used it to start knocking cards out of Veit-Quiles’s hand, Shakir was able to secure the victory.

In Duel 3, Veit-Quiles opened up with Doomcaliber Knight and Fiendish Chain, and Shakir opened up with Dimensional Prison, Mirror Force, and Spirit Reaper. After a bunch of his monsters were ensnared by Traps, Shakir managed to swarm the field with 2 copies of Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity, a Wind-Up Rabbit, Wind-Up Rat, and Number 17: Leviathan Dragon. Veit-Quiles used Heavy Storm to clear Shakir’s back row next turn and then Summoned Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning! He attacked and destroyed 2 copies of Zenmaity with his Soldier next turn; but it wasn’t enough. Shakir used his Wind-Up Rabbit to banish his Rat in the End Phase, and returned it to the field in his next Standby Phase. He used its effect to Special Summon another Rat from his Graveyard and make Number 20: Giga-Brilliant. Then he used Giga-Brilliant’s effect to give all of his monsters 300 ATK and detached a second Xyz Material from Number 17: Leviathan Dragon to bring it up to 3300 ATK and attack over Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning! Veit-Quiles conceded on his next turn.

At Table 4, Ryan Machado defeated Jovad Cruz 2-1 in a Dino Rabbit Mirror-Match
!

In Duel 1, Cruz opened up with Tour Guide into Zenmaines and when Machado Summoned Rescue Rabbit and used it to Special Summon 2 Kabazauls, Cruz flipped Torrential Tribute to destroy them both and detach an Xyz Material from Zenmaines. In the End Phase, Zenmaines was forced to target itself with its effect and lose another Xyz Material. Next turn, Cruz Summoned another Tour Guide and made Leviair the Sea Dragon, taking Rescue Rabbit from Machado. He banished it, attacked with 2 Sabersaurus, and Xyz Summoned Evolzar Laggia in Main Phase 2, securing the victory.

In Duel 2, Machado Summoned Sabersaurus and Set 2 back rows on his first turn, but lost both back rows to Cruz’s Mystical Space Typhoons on the following turn. Cruz Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld to follow-up, but lost out on its effect to Effect Veiler. After a slow start, both Duelists drew a lot of Normal Monsters to prolong a back-and-forth Duel. Eventually, Cruz ran out of monsters and his Life Points got low, allowing Machado to finish the Duel with Tour Guide.

In Duel 3, Cruz opened up with Rescue Rabbit and used it to Summon Evolzar Laggia before Setting Mirror Force and Solemn Warning; but Machado was able to fight back and win! Machado used Book of Moon on Laggia, and Cruz negated the Book of Moon by detaching both Xyz Materials from Laggia. That allowed Machado to use Heavy Storm to destroy Cruz’s Solemn Warning and Mirror Force. Machado followed up by Summoning Rescue Rabbit and using its effect to Special Summon 2 Normal Monsters from his Deck so that he could Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia. Utopia destroyed Laggia, and after Machado Set his own Solemn Warning, Utopia continued to dominate for the remainder of the Duel.

Justin Harrell, William Wilson, Adrian Shakir, and Ryan Machado are moving on with 4-0 records!
