WCQ Round 5 Round-Up

June 30th, 2012

Another Round, another 8 undefeated Duelists! Check out how they did in the Round 5 Round-Up!

.

At our first Featured Table, Quaddus Hunt used his Elemental HERO Deck to defeat Robbie Stargel’s Chaos Dragon Deck 2-0!

In Duel 1, Hunt used Future Fusion to Summon Elemental HERO Absolute Zero and then used Elemental HERO Stratos and Monster Reborn the same turn that Absolute Zero was Summoned to the field to Xyz Summon Blade Armor Ninja and win the Duel! Stargel couldn’t defend himself from Hunt’s Warriors’ attacks.

In Duel 2, Hunt used Miracle Fusion and Super Polymerization to Summon Elemental HERO Absolute Zero and Elemental HERO The Shining. Stargel couldn’t destroy them, and they remained on the field until they brought Hunt victory in the Duel and the Match!

.

At our second Featured Table, Dustin Clark used his Wind-Up Deck (siding into Inzektors!) to defeat Brian Acharya-Gaither’s Dino Rabbit Deck 2-1!

In Duel 1, Dustin Clark used Marauding Captain, Gilasaurus, and Foolish Burial to pull off the loop with Wind-Up Hunter and send 3 cards from Acharya-Gaither’s hand to his Graveyard. The cards Acharya-Gaither held onto weren’t enough for him to recover from Clark’s early play.

In Duel 2, Clark used Heavy Storm to destroy 3 of Acharya-Gaither’s back rows and then used Creature Swap to trade his Centipede for Kabazauls and destroy the Centipede. Next turn, Acharya-Gaither used Jurrac Guaiba to destroy Kabazauls, and even though both monsters were destroyed, Acharya-Gaither was able to Special Summon another Guaiba from his Deck with his Guaiba’s effect. A lot of Duelists don’t realize that Guaiba’s effect will activate even if it’s destroyed in the battle. Next, Acharya-Gaither activated Monster Reborn to revive his Guaiba, and Xyz Summoned Evolzar Dolkka. Clark Summoned Wind-Up Shark and activated Creature Swap to try to steal the Dolkka, but Acharya-Gaither Chained Forbidden Lance to make Shark unaffected by Spells and keep his Dolkka. Acharya-Gaither Summoned Rescue Rabbit next turn to make Evolzar Laggia, and then Tour Guide on his following turn to prompt a concession from Clark.

In Duel 3, Clark sided back into his Wind-Up Deck and pulled off the loop to send 3 cards from Acharya-Gaither’s hand to his Graveyard, including a Dark Hole. Clark tried to Summon a Rabbit to make a comeback, but lost its effect to Effect Veiler. When he managed to Summon Maestroke the Symphony Djinn to destroy a Number 17: Leviathan Dragon, Clark traded his Sangan for it with Creature Swap. Clark ended up winning the Duel with Maestroke on the field.

.

At our third Featured Table, Ryan Low defeated Garrett Dukes 2-1 in a Dino Rabbit Mirror Match!

In Duel 1, Dukes realized that he had swapped a Kabazauls with an opponent’s Tour Guide in a previous Duel against a friend, causing him to have 4 copies of Tour Guide From the Underworld in his Deck. Consequently, he received a loss and the Match moved on to the second Duel.

In Duel 2, Dukes used Rescue Rabbit on his first turn and Low wasn’t able to stop his plays, allowing him to dominate the Duel with help from Evolzar Laggia.

In Duel 3, Low used 3 Mystical Space Typhoons to destroy a Solemn Warning, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Forbidden Lance, leaving Dukes with only a face-down Starlight Road! He used Leviair the Sea Dragon to take a Rescue Rabbit from Dukes’s banished zone at one point, and used Photon Papilloperative to switch Dukes’s Snowman Eater to Attack Position. He used Forbidden Chalice to negate its effect and then attacked with his monsters to win the Match!

.

At our last Featured Table, Sylvester Chen used his Dino Rabbit Deck to defeat Alan Johnson’s Lacer Deck 2-0!

In Duel 1, Chen Summoned Dolkka early on with Rescue Rabbit. Johnson tried to defeat it with Light and Darkness Dragon, but Johnson used Effect Veiler to negate its effect, and then used Dolkka’s effect to negate and destroy Light and Darkness Dragon when it tried to negate Effect Veiler. After Light and Darkness Dragon went to the Graveyard, Dolkka negated its effect again by detaching its second Xyz Material. Chen Summoned another Rescue Rabbit next turn to Xyz Summon another Evolzar Dolkka and seal the Duel!

In Duel 2, Chen Summoned Evolzar Dolkka with Macro Cosmos face-up to pin down Johnson’s plays. When Johnson tried to destroy Dolkka with Dark Hole, Chen used Forbidden Lance to protect Dolkka. Chen Summoned Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer and attacked with Kycoo and Dolkka next turn. With Macro Cosmos face-up, there was nothing in Johnson’s Graveyard to banish with Kycoo; but Johnson had nothing to defeat Dolkka or Kycoo with next turn, and Chen Summoned another Rescue Rabbit on the following to Xyz Summon another Dolkka and win the Duel!

Chen knew that Evolzar Dolkka was usually stronger than Laggia in the Lancer Match, and was able to count on Dolkka to win.

.

Quaddus Hunt, Dustin Clark, Ryan Low, and Sylvester Chen are moving on with 5-0 records!
