Jarel Winston has made it to the top of several tournaments, usually with a variant of his signature Lightsworn Deck. Today he’s back on top, making the most of the Lightsworn cards in his Chaos Dragon Deck! But Winston will need to get through Michael Rindenello’s Dino Rabbit Deck if he hopes to make it to the Top 4!

Duel One

Rindenello started off the Match by Summoning Rescue Rabbit and banishing it to Special Summon 2 copies of Kabazauls from his Deck! He combined them to Xyz Summon Evolzar Laggia and then Set a card to his back row.

Winston opened up with Charge of the Light Brigade, Lightpulsar Dragon, Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, Forbidden Lance, Sangan, and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon. He activated Charge of the Light Brigade by sending Soul Taker, Dark Hole, and Gorz the Emissary of Darkness from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and searched his Deck for a Lyla to add to his hand. Next, he Summoned Lyla and used its effect to destroy Rindenello’s face-down Heavy Storm. Winston Set Forbidden Lance before entering his End Phase and sent Mystical Space Typhoon, Heavy Storm, and Dark Armed Dragon from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Lyla’s effect.

Rindenello Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld next turn and used its effect to Special Summon another copy from his Deck. He combined his Tour Guides to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon and detached an Xyz Material from it Special Summon Rescue Rabbit back to the field. He banished it to Special Summon 2 copies of Sabersaurus and then combined them to Summon Evolzar Dolkka. Next, Leviair attacked Lyla to destroy it, and Evolzar Laggia and Evolzar Dolkka attacked directly, dropping Winston down to 3300 Life Points.

Winston drew Chaos Sorcerer next turn.  He banished Gorz and Lyla from his Graveyard to Special Summon Lightpulsar Dragon and Rindenello negated its Summon with Evolzar Laggia. Next, Winston sent Lyla and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his hand to the Graveyard to Special Summon Lightpulsar Dragon back to the field. He banished Dark Armed Dragon and Lyla next, in order to Summon Chaos Sorcerer.


Winston Normal Summoned Sangan next. He attacked Dolkka with Chaos Sorcerer to destroy both monsters, and then destroyed Laggia in battle with Lightpulsar Dragon. Finally, Sangan attacked Leviair, and Winston flipped Forbidden Lance to weaken the Leviair. Sangan and Leviair were destroyed, and Winston got an Effect Veiler from his Deck with Sangan’s effect.

Rindenello Set a monster and passed.

Winston drew Effect Veiler and attacked Rindenello’s face-down monster with Lightpulsar Dragon. Rindenello’s Sangan was destroyed, and Rindenello added Tour Guide From the Underworld from his Deck to his hand.

Rindenello drew Pot of Avarice next turn! He sent 2 Kabazauls, 2 Sabersaurus, and a Leviair the Sea Dragon back to his Deck to draw 2 cards. He Set a card to each zone and passed.

Winston drew Darkflare Dragon and attacked Rindenello’s face-down Kabazauls to destroy it.

Rindenello Set another Kabazauls.

Winston drew Ryko and Set it. He attacked and destroyed another face-down Kabazauls.

Rindenello activated Mind Control to take control of Ryko and then Flip Summoned it, targeting Lightpulsar Dragon; but Winston used Effect Veiler to negate Ryko’s effect! Rindenello Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld next, and Winston negated its effect with another Effect Veiler! Rindenello Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Winston drew Eclipse Wyvern next turn and tried to Summon it; but Rindenello flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Winston used the effect of his Wyvern to banish Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Deck. He banished the Eclipse Wyvern and Chaos Sorcerer from his Graveyard to Summon Darkflare Dragon and used his Wyvern’s effect to add Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his banished zone to his hand. He banished Darkflare Dragon to Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his hand and then attacked over Tour Guide with Lightpulsar Dragon. Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon attacked next, and Rindenello used Forbidden Lance on Ryko to clear his own back row; then he Special Summoned Gorz the Emissary of Darkness and an Emissary of Darkness Token with 2800 ATK and DEF.

Rindenello passed without making a play.

Winston drew Card Trooper. He attacked and destroyed Gorz with his Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and then ended his turn.

Rindenello Set a card to his back row and then switched his Token into Attack Position. He attacked and destroyed Lightpulsar Dragon, and Winston Special Summoned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Graveyard.

Winston drew Tour Guide From the Underworld and then attacked the Token with Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, destroying both monsters. Next, he tried attacking with his other Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, but was stopped by Fiendish Chain. Winston Set Card Trooper before ending his turn.

Rindenello Summoned Jurrac Guaiba next turn and attacked Ryko! He Special Summoned another Guaiba from his Deck and combined his Guaibas to Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia.

Winston drew Doomcaliber Knight. He Normal Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and Rindenello negated its effect with Effect Veiler; Winston then Flip Summoned Card Trooper and activated its effect by sending Eclipse Wyvern, Tour Guide From the Underworld, and Lightpulsar Dragon from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. There were no monsters left in the Deck to banish with Eclipse Wyvern. Winston combined Tour Guide with Card Trooper to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon and detached an Xyz Material to Special Summon Lyla. Lyla destroyed Fiendish Chain. Leviair attacked Number 39: Utopia, causing the Leviair to be destroyed, and then Lightpulsar Dragon and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon both had their attacks negated by Utopia.

Rindenello put Number C39: Utopia Ray on Utopia and switched it into Defense Position, then Summoned a Sabersaurus that he used to attack and destroy Lyla.

Winston Special Summoned Darkflare Dragon next turn and Rindenello conceded.

Duel Two

Rindenello started off Duel 2 by Summoning Rescue Rabbit and banishing it to Summon 2 copies of Kabazauls from his Deck. He combined his Kabazauls to Summon Evolzar Laggia and then Set 4 cards to his back row.

Winston opened up with Darkflare Dragon, Solar Recharge, Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, Forbidden Lance, Jain, Lightsworn Paladin; and Future Fusion. He activated Solar Recharge by discarding Jain and Rindenello tried to negate the Recharge by activating the effect of Laggia. Winston Chained Forbidden Chalice to try to negate Laggia, but Rindenello flipped Forbidden Lance to make sure Laggia’s effect worked!

Next, Winston Summoned Lyla. He followed up by activating Future Fusion, but Rindenello Chained Macro Cosmos! Winston banished Darkflare Dragon, Lightpulsar Dragon, Dark Armed Dragon, and 2 copies of Eclipse Wyvern from his Deck. Next, Winston attacked Rindenello’s 1600 ATK Laggia with Lyla, and Rindenello flipped Fiendish Chain to stop it.

Rindenello Summoned another Rescue Rabbit next turn! He banished it to Summon 2 copies of Sabersaurus and then attacked with all of his monsters. Winston dropped down to 3500 Life Points and his Lyla was destroyed. In Main Phase 2, Rindenello Xyz Summoned another Laggia.

Winston drew a card and passed.

Rindenello attacked directly with both Laggia’s to wipe out the rest of Winston’s Life Points on the following turn!

Michael Rindenello pushes the Match to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Winston opened up with Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, Monster Reborn, Forbidden Chalice, Darkflare Dragon, and 2 copies of Mystical Space Typhoon. He Summoned Lyla, Set a Mystical Space Typhoon and Chalice and then ended his turn. In his End Phase, Lyla sent Lyla, Chaos Sorcerer, and Jain, Lightsworn Paladin from the top of Winston’s Deck to his Graveyard.

Rindenello activated Heavy Storm to destroy Mystical Space Typhoon and Chalice. Then he Set 3 cards to his back row and ended his turn.

Winston drew Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and then used his Lyla’s effect to destroy Rindenello’s face-down Macro Cosmos!

Next, Winston used Monster Reborn on Lyla and used its effect to destroy a Dimensional Prison. He activated Mystical Space Typhoon next, and destroyed Rindenello’s face-down Dimensional Prison. Winston banished Chaos Sorcerer and Jain from his Graveyard to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and then combined his Lylas to Summon Number 39: Utopia! Winston banished Rindenello’s face-down Kabazauls with his Soldier and then attacked directly with Utopia.

Rindenello Set a card to each zone and passed.

Winston banished Rindenello’s face-down Kabazauls again with Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and attacked directly with Utopia.

Rindenello Set a monster.

Winston banished Rindenello third Kabazauls with Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and then attacked directly again with Utopia. He Set Ryko before ending his turn.

Rindenello Set a card to his back row and passed.

Winston flipped Ryko and Rindenello offered the handshake!
