3rd/4th Playoff: Robbie Kohl vs Parker Roberson

September 24th, 2012

Robbie Kohl is a Ft. Wayne, Indiana Duelist who’s managed to make it this far with a Machina Gadget Deck featuring no Geargia – a bit unusual considering how many Geargia Duelists we’ve seen today. Parker Roberson is from right here in Indianapolis, playing his Hieratics. The winner here will take home a Super Rare copy of Digvorzhak, King of Heavy Industry!

Duel 1

Kohl opened with Pot of Duality, Machina Gearframe, Machina Fortress, Bottomless Trap Hole, Pot of Avarice, and Mystical Space Typhoon. He began by Normal Summoning Gearframe to add another Fortress to his hand, then played Duality. Kohl passed on Monster Reborn and Gearframe, choosing to take Maxx “C” instead. He Set Bottomless Trap Hole.

Roberson blew away Bottomless Trap Hole with Mystical Space Typhoon, then Normal Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Eset. He tributed it to Special Summon Hieratic Dragon of Su, then Eset Special Summoned Wattaildragon. And Kohl Chained his Maxx “C” to Eset’s effect. Roberson stacked Wattaildragon and Su for Hieratic Dragon King of Atum, detaching Wattaildragon to get Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit from his Deck to the field. He tributed Tefnuit for Hieratic Dragon of Nebthet, and Tefnuit Summoned Luster Dragon #2. He played Monster Reborn on Eset, then overlaid for another Atum. Atum’s effect Special Summoned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, which revived Wattaildragon. He overlaid both Atums for 2 Gaia Dragons, the Thunder Chargers. Both Gaia Dragons and Wattaildragon attacked directly, and Kohl conceded!

Parker Roberson pushes through Maxx “C” without fear! Robbie Kohl just can’t draw a Tragoedia or Gorz the Emissary of Darkness to save his life!

Duel 2

Robbie went first again, with a hand of Machina Gearframe, Dimensional Prison, 2 Maxx “C”, Tragoedia, and Bottomless Trap Hole. He started off with Gearframe to search out Machina Fortress, Set Bottomless Trap Hole, and passed.

Robbie Kohl

Roberson Special Summoned Cyber Dragon, and Kohl banished it with Bottomless Trap Hole.

Kohl drew Gorz the Emissary of Darkness and attacked with Gearframe, only for Roberson to play his own Gorz! He Set Prison.

Roberson attacked Gearframe with Gorz, Kohl tried to banish it with Dimensional Prison, and Roberson kept Gorz safe with Forbidden Lance! Roberson’s Emissary of Darkness Token attacked directly, triggering Kohl’s Gorz! Both Duelists now had a Gorz with an 1800 ATK/DEF Emissary of Darkness Token.

Kohl drew another Dimensional Prison. He had his Gorz destroy Roberson’s Emissary of Darkness Token, then turned his own token to defense position. He Set Prison.

Roberson’s Gorz attacked, and Prison banished it.

Kohl drew Machina Cannon. He discarded it to Summon Fortress from his hand. His token attacked directly, and Roberson played Tragoedia. Fortress destroyed it, and Gorz attacked directly leaving Roberson with only 800 Life Points.

Roberson cleared the board with Dark Hole! He played Hieratic Seal of Convocation to add Hieratic Dragon of Su to his hand. Kohl Chained Maxx “C”. He Normal Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Eset, then tributed it for Su. Eset Summoned Luster Dragon #2. Su attacked directly and Kohl played Tragoedia. Roberson overlaid his monsters for Number 25: Force Focus! Kohl continued drawing cards with Maxx “C”.

Kohl drew, now with a hand of Maxx “C”, Bottomless Trap Hole, Yellow Gadget , Mystical Space Typhoon, and Red Gadget, as well as a Tragoedia with 3000 ATK! Kohl Summoned Red Gadget, adding Green Gadget to his hand. He activated Tragoedia’s effect to become Level 7, then discarded his two gadgets from his hand to revive Fortress. Before Kohl could Xyz Summon Number 11: Big Eye, Roberson negated Tragoedia’s effect with Force Focus. It didn’t change anything though – Kohl sent Fortress into Force Focus, taking 300 damage and destroying Force Focus with Fortress’s effect, then finishing Roberson off with Red Gadget!

Robbie Kohl evens the score with Maxx “C” getting him what he needs this time!

Duel 3

Roberson played Pot of Duality, choosing Tragoedia over Royal Decree and Forbidden Lance. He passed.

Parker Roberson

Kohl had Machina Gearframe, Maxx “C”, Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Thunder King Rai-Oh, Heavy Storm, and Solemn Judgment. He Summoned Gearframe to search out Fortress, and attacked directly with it, knowing Roberson had Tragoedia. Roberson played it in defense position.

Roberson Normal Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Eset, then tributed it to Special Summon Hieratic Dragon of Nebthet. Kohl Chained to Eset’s effect with Maxx “C”. Roberson Summoned Wattaildragon with Eset. He activated Nebthet, tributing another Nebthet from his hand to destroy Gearframe. That Nebthet Summoned Luster Dragon #2, and he overlaid his Normal Monsters for Hieratic Dragon King of Atum. That Summoned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from Roberson’s Deck. REDMD revived Wattaildragon. Roberson bounced Red-Eyes back to his hand to Special Summon Genex Ally Birdman, then tuned Birdman to Nebthet to Synchro Summon Stardust Dragon. He banished Atum to Special Summon Red-Eyes again. He activated Red-Eyes’s effect to revive Eset, then overlaid it with Wattaildragon to Summon Force Focus. He played Monster Reborn to Special Summon Luster Dragon #2, changed Tragoedia’s Level to 6, and Summoned Photon Strike Bounzer. He attacked directly with Stardust Dragon and Kohl played one of his many cards he’d gained with Maxx “C”Gorz the Emissary of Darkness! Roberson used Strike Bounzer to burn Kohl for 1000 when Gorz tried to Summon a token. Bounzer took down Gorz, Red-Eyes attacked directly, and Kohl Summoned Tragoedia! Force Focus negated its effect, reducing its DEF to 0, then destroyed it.

Kohl drew to 18 cards in hand! He only had 1300 Life Points left, while Roberson hd 6200. He discarded a bunch of Machines along with 3 Machina Fortresses to Special Summon all three! Then he played Pot of Avarice, drawing even more cards. He entered his Battle Phase, crashing a Fortress into Stardust Dragon. When Fortress was destroyed, it destroyed Bounzer. In Main Phase 2, Kohl overlaid his Fortresses for Number 11: Big Eye! Big Eye stole Red-Eyes, and Kohl Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh. He Set five cards to his back row and passed!

Robbie draws millions billions cardsIn Roberson’s Draw Phase, Kohl bounced away Force Focus with Compulsory Evacuation Device and Roberson offered the handshake!

Parker Roberson tries to make a repeat of the first Duel by pushing through Maxx “C”, but it doesn’t pan out this time! Robbie Kohl wins his own Digvorzhak, King of Heavy Industry!

Robbie's ending field and hand thanks to Maximum C
