Round 10 Alexander Reed vs Brenden Beckmann
Alexander Reed travelled here from Dallas, Texas. We saw him yesterday with his Chaos Dragon Deck featuring Gravekeeper’s Spies, and so far his only loss has been to another Chaos Dragon Deck. Brenden Beckmann made the trip from Aurora, Colorado with his Machina Geartown Deck! This strategy is capable of locking down the game with Necrovalley and Skill Drain, while throwing out giant Malefic and Ancient Gear monsters. Brenden might have an advantage here, by preventing all of Alexander’s key effects, but if Alexander can rush fast enough, Brenden might be overrun. This is looking to be a great Duel!
Duel 1
Reed began with Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, Sangan, Solar Recharge, Card Trooper, Lightpulsar Dragon, and Darkflare Dragon. He played Recharge, discarding Lyla to draw Dark Armed Dragon and Heavy Storm, then sending Maxx “C” and Effect Veiler to his Graveyard. He Set Sangan and passed.
Beckmann Normal Summoned Machina Gearframe and used it to add Machina Fortress to his hand. He Set a back row card and passed.
Reed drew Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter. He perused his rather small Graveyard and chose to Summon Card Trooper, sending Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon (REDMD), and Maxx “C” to the Graveyard. He played Heavy Storm to destroy Beckmann’s Dark Bribe, then banished Veiler and Gorz to Summon Lightpulsar Dragon! Lightpulsar took down Gearframe and Trooper attacked directly, putting Beckmann down to 5400 Life Points.
Beckmann Set a Field Spell, then Set another one to destroy the first – Geartown! It Special Summoned Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon, then he flipped the other Field Spell up – Necrovalley! Gadjiltron Dragon took down Lightpulsar, and Necrovalley negated its effect. Beckmann Set two cards to his back row. (Beckmann had to Set the Necrovalley rather than play it face-up. Playing it face-up begins a Chain, which will cause Geartown to miss its timing to activate its effect since the last thing to happen was not Geartown’s destruction. He could simply flip Necrovalley later on anyway.)
Reed drew Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress. He Summoned it to destroy Necrovalley with its effect, but Skill Drain stopped her! Reed used his Trooper to send Tour Guide From the Underworld, Solar Recharge, and Gravekeeper’s Spy to the Graveyard, though it would be negated. He turned Trooper to defense and ended with no other moves.
Beckmann destroyed Lyla with Gadjiltron Dragon, dropping Reed to 6200 Life Points.
Reed drew Eclipse Wyvern. He thought a moment, clearly troubled by both Necrovalley and Skill Drain. He passed.
Beckmann attacked with Gadjiltron Dragon, finally destroying the Sangan that had been there since the first turn of the Duel. It added Card Trooper to Reed’s hand.
Reed drew Effect Veiler. He Set Trooper and passed.
Beckmann discarded Machina Fortress and Cardcar D to Summon the Fortress. Gadjiltron Dragon and Fortress destroyed both Card Troopers, and their effects gave Reed Eclipse Wyvern and Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning.
Reed drew Charge of the Light Brigade, using it to add Lyla to his hand. Charge sent Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter; Mystical Space Typhoon; and Gravekeeper’s Spy to the Graveyard. He discarded Eclipse and Dark Armed Dragon to revive Lightpulsar Dragon, then crashed it into Fortress. He Set Eclipse and passed.
Beckmann sent Gadjiltron Dragon to destroy Eclipse, and there was nothing left for it to banish.
Reed drew Reborn and Set his Effect Veiler, still stuck under Necrovalley.
Beckmann discarded his Machina Cannon to revive Fortress. It destroyed Veiler and Gadjiltron Dragon attacked directly.
Reed drew Dark Hole! He finally got rid of Beckmann’s monsters. He Normal Summoned Lyla and attacked directly.
Beckmann Set a new Field Spell over his Necrovalley, then Set another Field over that one, revealing the first to be Geartown! It revived Gadjiltron Dragon from the Graveyard, and it attacked Lyla. During the Damage Step, Beckmann used Limiter Removal to obliterate Lyla and the rest of Reed’s Life Points!
Brenden Beckmann completely controls the first Duel with huge monsters, Necrovalley, and Skill Drain! The Duelists moved to their side decks and the next Duel began shortly.
Duel 2
Reed began with a hand of Tragoedia, Monster Reborn, Lightpulsar Dragon, Cyber Dragon, Heavy Storm, and Eclipse Wyvern. He Set Eclipse and passed.
Beckmann Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh and destroyed Eclipse. Its effect banished Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from Reed’s deck. Beckmann Set two back row cards and ended.
Reed drew Mystical Space Typhoon. He played his Heavy Storm, and Beckmann Chained Magic Drain! Reed let Storm be negated and passed.
Beckmann Set another back row card and passed, not attacking directly with Rai-Oh.
Reed drew Allure of Darkness. He passed.
Beckmann attacked directly, and Reed Summoned Tragoedia in defense position.
Reed drew Royal Decree. He Set it along with Mystical Space Typhoon. His Tragoedia was sitting strong with 2400 DEF.
Beckmann passed. In the End Phase, Reed flipped Decree!
Reed drew Solar Recharge. He switched Tragoedia to attack position and took down Thunder King Rai-Oh. The score was 6900 – 6100 Life Points, with Beckmann leading.
Beckmann played Heavy Storm! It blew away his own Dark Bribe and Fiendish Chain, along with Reed’s Decree and Mystical Space Typhoon. He followed that with Machina Gearframe, adding Machina Fortress to his hand. He played Necrovalley, then banished Cyber End Dragon from his Extra Deck to Special Summon Malefic Cyber End Dragon! Malefic Cyber End took down Tragoedia, then Gearframe attacked directly. In Main Phase 2, Beckmann equipped Gearframe to Malefic Cyber End to protect it.
Reed drew Lyla. He Special Summoned his Cyber Dragon, then fused it with Malefic Cyber End Dragon to Summon Chimeratech Fortress Dragon at 2000 ATK! Reed Summoned Lyla next, using her effect to destroy Necrovalley. He banished a LIGHT and DARK for Lightpulsar Dragon, then when he activated Monster Reborn, Beckmann conceded!
Alexander Reed evens the score with an explosive finish, using Beckmann’s own Malefic against him!
Duel 3
Beckmann began the final Duel with Gearframe, searching out Fortress. He followed up with Pot of Duality choosing Skill Drain instead of Geartown or Magic Drain. He Set a Field Spell and a back row card.
Reed began with a hand of Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Charge of the Light Brigade, Solar Recharge, and Dark Armed Dragon. He drew Gravekeeper’s Spy. Charge sent Mystical Space Typhoon, Allure of Darkness, and a Spy to the Graveyard, then added Ryko to Reed’s hand. He played Solar Recharge to discard Ryko, drawing Ryko and Lightpulsar Dragon, then sending Ryko and Cyber Dragon to the Graveyard. He banished Spy and Ryko to Summon Lightpulsar Dragon and attacked Gearframe, then Set Spy.
Beckmann thought over his options, then chose to discard 2 Machina Fortress to Special Summon one of them. Then he discarded Machina Cannon to Summon the other one! One Fortress crashed into Lightpulsar, then destroyed Spy with its effect. The other Fortress attacked directly, triggering Reed’s Gorz! It Summoned a 2500 ATK Emissary of Darkness Token. Beckmann Set a second back row and ended.
Reed drew Tour Guide From the Underworld. He discarded Ryko and REDMD to revive Lightpulsar Dragon. Lightpulsar attacked into Fortress, and Beckmann used Book of Moon to block it. Gorz attacked next, and Fortress destroyed the token with its effect.
Beckmann drew and flipped up Geartown, then Special Summoned Malefic Cyber End Dragon! It attacked to destroy Gorz, putting Reed down to 4200 Life Points, with Beckmann still at 7100.
Reed drew Lyla. He passed his turn.
Beckmann Normal Summoned Cardcar D and used it to draw two cards, then passed.
Reed drew Decree and Set it, losing it to Beckmann’s Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase.
Beckmann played Terraforming to add Necrovalley to his hand. He Set it over Geartown, triggering it to Summon Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon! Then he flipped up the Necrovalley. Gadjiltron Dragon destroyed Lightpulsar, and Malefic Cyber End Dragon dropped Reed to 200 Life Points! He flipped up Skill Drain and Set one more card face-down.
Reed checked his next draw, and knew he wasn’t able to make a comeback. Brenden Beckmann is victorious with Geartown!
