Round 8 Round-Up!
Let’s see how 8 more of our top Duelists are doing in this final round of Day 1!
At our first Featured Table, Michael Pramawat used his Dark World Deck to defeat Michael Merchant’s Geargias 2-0!
In Duel 1, Pramawat gave Merchant a few Life Points with Upstart Goblin, but took them away with Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World! He’d seen Merchant’s hand with Dragged Down into the Grave, and knew he had three traps. Pramawat used Eradicator Epidemic Virus to destroy them all, leaving Merchant with just a Book of Moon! Pramawat used 2 Reckless Greeds together, then forced Merchant to play his Book of Moon by summoning Leviair the Sea Dragon. Pramawat kept pushing, knowing exactly what Merchant was drawing each turn, and took the first Duel.
Merchant started Duel 2 with Prohibition on Grapha, and three more back rows. Pramawat was unphased, and played Dark World Dealings to discard his Snoww, Unlight of Dark World. Merchant tried to negate it with Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror, but Pramawat deflected the Mirror with Mystical Space Typhoon, then blew away the rest of Merchant’s spells and traps with the Heavy Storm he drew with Dealings! Pramawat summoned a Cyber Dragon and was able to easily beat Merchant down with it now that he’d gotten rid of any defense.
At our second Featured Table, Junior Dorcin’s Six Samurais defeated Evan Towler’s Wind-Ups 2-1!
Junior began with three back row cards, Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En and Grandmaster of the Six Samurai! Evan responded by Setting five back row cards! At one point, Evan paid half his Life Points for Solemn Judgment, only for Junior to negate Judgment for free with Musakani Magatama! Evan used a Snowman Eater to take down Naturia Barkion, but Shi En dropped him to 50 Life Points and he couldn’t find an answer to it.
Junior started off with Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki, but Solemn Warning stopped it in its tracks. Evan simply exploded with Wind-Ups from there, using a combination of Wind-Up Rat, Wind-Up Magician, Wind-Up Shark, Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity, and Photon Papilloperative to throw down a bunch of Xyz Monsters all at once!
Junior began the final Duel with four back row cards. Evan had Magician, Shark, and Wind-Up Factory. He was ready to explode, but had to play around all those face-down cards. He eventually summoned Magician, then Shark, and another Wind-Up with Magician. Junior waited until now to play his Rivalry of Warlords to limit Evan’s options. Evan tried to blow it away with Dust Tornado, but Junior negated that with Musakani Magatama! Next turn, Junior played Six Samurai United, and when Evan tried to keep him from summoning more Samurais with Solemn Warning, Junior had Solemn Judgment to push his move through and take the Match.
At our third Featured Table, Andrew Perez used his Wind-Up Deck to defeat Samuel Pedigo’s Karakuri Geargia Deck 2-1!
Perez started off Duel 1 by Summoning Number 16: Shock Master on his very first turn thanks to Wind-Up Magician. Pedigo quickly conceded. “I had a play, but I went ahead and conceded so he wouldn’t know what I was playing,” Perez told me.
In Duel 2, Pedigo used Pot of Duality to grab Heavy Storm from the top of his Deck. This prompted Perez to not Set cards to his back row. Pedigo eventually managed to Summon Karakuri Shogun mdl 00 “Burei”, Karakuri Steel Shogun mdl 00X “Bureido”, and Scrap Dragon, to win in one turn.
In Duel 3, both players had a slow start. Pedigo was eventually able to Summon Stardust Dragon, Burei, and Bureido and then used Pot of Avarice to draw 2 cards. But he didn’t draw any Traps, so when Perez Summoned Wind-Up Magician and Wind-Up Shark next turn, he was able to take the victory using Wind-Up Zenmaines, Photon Papilloperative, Tiras, Keeper of Genesis, and Forbidden Lance.
At our last Featured Table, Doug Elliot defeated Kristopher Valters 2-1 in a Wind-Up Mirror-Match!
In Duel 1, Elliot opened up with Wind-Up Magician and Wind-Up Shark to make Number 16: Shock Master on the first turn and take the victory by shutting down his opponent’s Spell Cards!
In Duel 2, Valters Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh on his first turn. Elliot was never able to destroy it. A late Royal Decree shut down Elliot’s Traps and sealed Valters’s victory.
In Duel 3, Elliot opened up with 2 copies of Solemn Warning, Solemn Judgment, and Wind-Up Factory. He used his Warnings to prevent Valters from accumulating a field and slowly took the victory.
Michael Pramawat, Junior Dorcin, Andrew Perez, and Kristopher Valters win their Round 8 Feature!
