Round 9 Feature Match: Parker Roberson (Hieratic) vs Josh Bequette (Machina Gadget)
Parker is a local Duelist, defending his home turf of Indianapolis with his Hieratic Deck. Josh is here from St. Louis, Missouri, and chose Machina Gadgets. Each Duelist has one loss, so a win here is necessary to have a good shot at the Top 32.
Duel 1
Roberson opened with Maxx “C”, Cardcar D, Hieratic Seal of Convocation, Hieratic Dragon of Su, and Genex Ally Birdman. He drew Mystical Space Typhoon. He started off Day 2 with Convocation to search out Hieratic Dragon of Eset, then Normal Summoned it. He tribute Eset to Special Summon Su, then Eset Special Summoned Luster Dragon #2 from his Deck in defense position. He overlayed his monsters to Summon Hieratic Dragon King of Atum, and Bequette Chained his Effect Veiler. Parker Set Mystical Space Typhoon and passed.
Bequette Set three back row cards and passed. In the End Phase, Parker destroyed Fiendish Chain with his Typhoon.
Roberson drew Forbidden Lance and tried using his Atum’s effect again, but it was negated by Bequette’s Solemn Warning. Roberson continued by Normal Summoning Cardcar D, then bouncing it to Summon his Birdman. He attacked directly and Set Lance.
Bequette Set one card to his back row and passed.
Roberson drew another Birdman and Summoned Cardcar D, but another Solemn Warning negated its Summon. Birdman attacked, Bequette tried to destroy it with Mirror Force, but Forbidden Lance kept it on the field.
Bequette passed his turn, still with no monsters, and Roberson Summoned another Birdman. His pair of Birdmen attacked directly to finish Bequette off!
Parker Roberson takes a quick first Duel with Josh Bequette left defenseless! Both Duelists moved to their Side Decks immediately.
Duel 2
Roberson’s opening hand was Compulsory Evacuation Device, Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit, Luster Dragon #2, Heavy Storm, and Cardcar D.
Bequette began with a Set back row.
Roberson drew and played Pot of Duality, revealing Monster Reborn, Smashing Ground, and Cardcar D. He chose Reborn and shuffled the rest back into his deck. He followed that up with Cardcar D, and Bequette activated Effect Veiler when it was Summoned! Cardcar attacked directly and Roberson Set Compulsory Evacuation Device.
Bequette passed.
Roberson drew Genex Ally Birdman. He played his Compulsory Evacuation Device to return Cardcar D to his hand, then Summoned it again, using its effect to draw Hieratic Seal of Convocation and Tragoedia. He Set Reborn.
Bequette passed again.
Roberson drew Hieratic Dragon of Su. Convocation searched out Hieratic Dragon of Eset, and he Normal Summoned it. He tribute it to Special Summon Su, and Bequette Chained to Eset’s effect with Maxx “C”. Eset Summoned Wattail Dragon and Su attacked into Mirror Force. Roberson passed.
Bequette finally Summoned a monster this match – Machina Gearframe! It added Machina Fortress to his hand, then destroyed Wattail Dragon in battle. He Set a second back row card and ended.
Roberson drew Pot of Duality, then flipped his Monster Reborn to revive Su. Then he played Heavy Storm to blast Bequette’s Solemn Warning and Mirror Force! Su destroyed Gearframe in battle and Roberson ended.
Bequette Summoned Red Gadget to search out Yellow Gadget . He discarded his Fortress and Yellow Gadget to Special Summon Fortress, then when Fortress destroyed Su, Roberson Summoned Tragoedia with 2400 ATK! Bequette played Smashing Ground in the End Phase and Set a back row.
Roberson drew Mystical Space Typhoon and played it to destroy Dimensional Prison. He Special Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit, then tributed it to Normal Summon Luster Dragon #2. Tefnuit Summoned Wattaildragon, and he Xyz Summoned Hieratic Dragon King of Atum. Atum Summoned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon (REDMD) from the Deck, which in turn Summoned Su from the Graveyard. Roberson returned REDMD to his hand to Special Summon Birdman, then he banished Atum to Summon REDMD again. He used its effect once again to Summon Luster Dragon #2, then Xyz Summoned with Luster and Su for another Atum! Atum Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Nebthet from his Deck. He overlayed the now immobile Atum for Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger, then used Birdman and Nebthet to Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon! After all his plays were over, he had a field of Scrap Dragon, Gaia Dragon, and REDMD. Gaia attacked directly, and Bequette Summoned his Gorz the Emissary of Darkness to survive the turn!
It was all over moments later though, when Bequette drew Pot of Duality and revealed nothing to save himself. Parker Roberson is moving on with Hieratics!
