Top 32: Jarel Winston (Karakuri Geargia) vs David Miles Jr. (Wind-Up)
Jarel Winston is no stranger to competition – he’s fresh off his trip to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championships and he’s ready for another win! He came from the Bronx, New York with a Karakuri Geargia Deck. His opponent is David Miles Jr., who came up from Dallas, Texas with his Wind-Ups. The tournament is now single elimination, so each Duelist must win to continue.
Duel 1
Winston began with a hand of Starlight Road, Effect Veiler, Dimensional Prison, Machina Gearframe, Forbidden Lance, and Karakuri Watchdog mdl 313 “Saizan”. He played Gearframe to search out Machina Fortress, then Set all his spells and traps.
Miles Summoned Wind-Up Rabbit. He Set two back row cards and ended.
Winston drew Mystical Space Typhoon. He played it to target Miles’s copy, which then destroyed Winston’s Starlight Road. Gearframe attacked Rabbit, which banished itself, and Gearframe attacked directly off the replay. Winston Set his Saizan and ended.
Miles returned Rabbit to play, then flipped Trap Stun! He Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld, using her effect to Summon another Tour Guide from his Deck. He stacked both Guides, and then thought a moment before Xyz Summoning Number 17: Leviathan Dragon. It detached a material to gain 500 ATK, then it attacked Winston’s face-down Saizan. Winston used Forbidden Lance to weaken Leviathan and keep Saizan around! Miles lost 100 Life Points. Rabbit attacked Saizan next, forcing it into attack position. Saizan survived with its effect, and Winston took 800 damage. Miles Set a back row card.
Winston drew Geargiarmor, and in the Draw Phase Miles activated Maxx “C”. Winston, Set Geargiarmor and passed.
Miles sent Wind-Up Rabbit to attack Saizan, forcing it into attack position. Leviathan attacked it and Winston banished it with Dimensional Prison. Miles Set a monster.
Winston drew another Saizan. He Flip Summoned Geargiarmor and it added Geargiaccelerator to his hand, then he sent Gearframe and Saizan to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Stardust Dragon! He Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator, Normal Summoned Saizan, then flipped Geargiarmor face-down. He used Geargiaccelerator and Saizan to Synchro Summon Karakuri Steel Shogun mdl 00X “Bureido”! He activated its effect, Miles played Bottomless Trap Hole, and Winston negated that with Stardust Dragon. Bureido Summoned Karakuri Strategist mdl 248 “Nishipachi”, and Nishipachi flipped up Geargiarmor. That added Geargiaccelerator to Winston’s hand. He Special Summoned it, then sent Nishipachi and Geargiarmor to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Karakuri Shogun mdl 00 “Burei” in defense position! He activated its effect to turn itself to attack mode, and Bureido let him draw a Geargiarsenal. Bureido attacked Wind-Up Rabbit, which banished itself, so Bureido redirected its attack to the face-down monster – Sangan. That added Wind-Up Shark to Miles’s hand. Burei attacked directly. The score was 6400 to 3500, with Winston leading. Stardust Dragon revived itself in the End Phase.
Miles returned Rabbit to play. He Normal Summoned Wind-Up Rat, then Special Summoned Wind-Up Shark. Rabbit banished Rat, and then Shark became Level 3. He overlayed them for Leviair the Sea Dragon. Leviair detached Shark to try Special Summoning Rat, and Winston used his Veiler to negate it! Miles wasn’t going to be able to overcome all of Winston’s Synchro Monsters, and conceded.

Duel 2
Miles began Wind-Up Rabbit and two back row cards.
Winston started off with 2 Geargiarsenal, Gozen Match, Geargiarmor, Forbidden Lance, and Saizan. He Set Geargiarmor, Gozen, and Lance.
Miles Normal Summoned Wind-Up Magician, and Winston flipped his Gozen Match! Miles thought a moment, then Chained Torrential Tribute, then he activated his Wind-Up Rabbit! Rabbit banished itself, Torrential Tribute wiped away the rest of the monsters. Miles cleared all the spells and traps next with Heavy Storm, then Set three back row cards.
Winston drew Geargiaccelerator. He Normal Summoned Geargiarsenal and attacked into Dimensional Prison.
Miles returned Rabbit to play and attacked directly.
Winston drew Torrential Tribute. He Set Saizan and Torrential Tribute, but lost Torrential to Miles’s Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase.
Miles Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh to destroy Saizan, and Rabbit attacked directly.
Winston drew Mystical Space Typhoon, using it to clear away Miles’s Trap Stun. He Summoned Geargiarsenal, then Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator. Geargiarsenal now had 1900 ATK, so it attacked Thunder King Rai-Oh to destroy both monsters.
Miles Normal Summoned Wind-Up Rat and had it revive Wind-Up Magician. Miles banished Rat with Rabbit, triggering Magician’s effect to Summon another Rabbit from the Deck. He overlayed the two Rabbits to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon, then used it to bring Rat back into play. Rat revived Rabbit, and both were overlayed for Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity! Zenmaity detached Rabbit to Summon Magician from the Deck. Both Magicians were overlayed for Photon Papilloperative. Papilloperative turned Winston’s Geargiaccelerator to attack position. Zenmaity attacked Geargiaccelerator to destroy it, and its effect put Geargiarsenal back in Winston’s hand. Leviair and Papilloperative attacked directly, dropping Winston to 600 Life Points.
Winston drew Monster Reborn! He Normal Summoned Geargiarsenal, then brought back Saizan with Monster Reborn. He used them to Synchro Summon Stardust Dragon and attacked Zenmaity! Winston had nothing but Stardust Dragon left.
Miles Normal Summoned Rat! He used it to revive another Rat, then Xyz Summoned Number 30: Acid Golem! Acid Golem took down Stardust Dragon and Papilloperative and Leviair were left to finish Winston off!
David Miles Jr. evens things up with a huge turn of Wind-Up shenanigans!
Duel 3
Winston began the final Duel with Machina Fortress, Geargiaccelerator, Geargiarmor, Geargiarsenal, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Heavy Storm. He Set Geargiarmor, Storm, and Typhoon.
Miles blew away Geargiarmor with Dark Hole. He Summoned Magician, then Special Summoned Shark. Magician Summoned another Magician. Shark became Level 3, and the new Magician Summoned Rat. He overlayed both Magicians for Photon Papilloperative, and it turned Rat to attack position. At this point, time in the round was called. After this turn there would be three more turns to determine a winner. Miles continued, using Rat to revive Magician, then Shark and Rat were overlayed for Zenmaity. Its detached Shark to Summon Rabbit from the Deck, and Magician Summoned another Magician. Rabbit banished itself to trigger the new Magician, which Summoned Shark. He overlayed both magicians and Shark to Xyz Summon Number 16: Shock Master! He declared Traps with Shock Master’s effect. Zenmaity, Papilloperative, and Shock Master all attacked directly, dropping Winston down to 2100 Life Points. Miles Set two back row, and Winston blew away Pot of Avarice with Mystical Space Typhoon.
Winston drew Machina Gearframe. He flipped up Storm, destroying Solemn Warning, then he Summoned Gearframe for Fortress’s search, then pitched both Fortresses, Geargiarsenal, and Geargiaccelerator to Summon both Fortresses! He began running some numbers, then had Gearframe destroy Zenmaity. Both Fortresses attacked over Shock Master and Photon Papilloperative. He equipped Gearframe to a Fortress.
Miles returned Rabbit to play. He normal Summoned Rat and had it Special Summon Shark. Shark became Level 3, and Miles Xyz Summoned Zenmaines. He Set one back row.
Winston drew Starlight Road on his last turn in End of Match procedures. He Special Summoned Gearframe back from his Spell and Trap Zone. He thought a moment, then used his Machina Fortresses to Xyz Summon Number 11: Big Eye, only for Miles to negate the Summon with Solemn Judgment!
David Miles Jr. defeats Jarel Winston, and is moving on to the Top 16!
