Neither Anthony Ekroth from Utah, nor Kristopher Valters from Wisconsin, have had a Feature Match this weekend. But that’s about to change, because they’re about to Duel against one another in our Top 8 Feature Match. Only one of these Duelists can take his Wind-Up Deck to the Top 4!

 

Duel One

 

Eckroth opened up with Maxx “C”, Bottomless Trap Hole, Wind-Up Rabbit, Solemn Warning, and 2 copies of Wind-Up Magician.

 

 

He Summoned Wind-Up Rabbit and then Set Solemn Warning.

 

Valters activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Solemn Warning. He activated Wind-Up Factory next, and then Summoned Wind-Up Rabbit. He attacked Eckroth’s Rabbit with his own, destroying both monsters.

 

Eckroth Summoned Sangan and attacked directly. He Set Bottomless Trap Hole before passing.

 

Valters Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh and attacked Sangan to destroy it. Rai-Oh stopped Sangan’s effect.

 

Eckroth drew Tour Guide From the Underworld and Summoned it. He activated its effect to Summon another Tour Guide from his Deck and then combined both Tour Guides to try to Summon Number 17: Leviathan Dragon; but Valters sent Thunder King Rai-Oh to the Graveyard to negate the Summon of Number 17: Leviathan Dragon.

 

Valters Summoned Wind-Up Rat and activated its effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Rabbit from his Graveyard in Defense Position. He used the effect of his Wind-Up Factory to add another Wind-Up Rat to his hand.

 

Eckroth drew a third Wind-Up Magician next turn.

 

 

He Summoned it and then attempted to attack Wind-Up Rat. Valters used the effect of his Rabbit to banish the Rat and then used his Wind-Up Factory to add a Wind-Up Shark from his Deck to his hand. Eckroth Special Summoned Wind-Up Rabbit from his Deck with his Magician’s effect. He Set Book of Moon before ending his turn.

 

Valters returned Rat to the field in his next Standby Phase and then activated Heavy Storm! Eckroth Chained Book of Moon to put his Magician face-down and Valters’s own Wind-Up Factory was destroyed. Valters Normal Summoned Wind-Up Rat and Special Summoned Wind-Up Shark from his hand. He reduced it to Level 3 and then combined his Shark and his Rabbit to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity. He detached Wind-Up Shark from Zenmaity to Special Summon another Wind-Up Shark from his Deck and then used his Wind-Up Rat’s effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Shark from his Graveyard. Valters combined both Sharks to Summon Photon Papilloperative and then detached an Xyz Material from Photon Papilloperative to switch Eckroth’s Rabbit into Attack Position. Then he switched his Rat into Attack Position and used its effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Shark from the Graveyard by switching it into Defense Position. He reduced the Shark to Level 3 and then combined it with Rat to Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon. Zenmaity attacked Wind-Up Rabbit to destroy it, and then Photon Papilloperative attacked and destroyed Eckroth’s face-down Wind-Up Magician. Finally, Leviair attacked directly, dropping Eckroth down to 5200 Life Points.

 

Eckroth drew Wind-Up Shark next turn! He Summoned Wind-Up Magician and then Special Summoned Wind-Up Shark from his hand. He used his Magician’s effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Rat from his Deck in Defense Position, and then combined Shark with Magician to Summon Photon Papilloperative; but Valters flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to banish it!

 

Valters finished off Eckroth next turn with his field of monsters!

 

 

Anthony Eckroth draws 3 copies of Wind-Up Magician in Duel 1, but can’t capitalize on their effects to take the victory. Ekroth will be going first in Duel 2!

 

Duel Two

 

 

Eckroth opened up with Pot of Avarice, Wind-Up Rat, Heavy Storm, Solemn Warning, Wind-Up Shark, and Monster Reborn.

 

 

He Summoned Wind-Up Rat and then Special Summoned Wind-Up Shark from his hand. He reduced his Shark to Level 3 and then combined it with Rat to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity in Defense Position. He detached Wind-Up Shark from Zenmaity to Special Summon Wind-Up Rat from his Deck and then used his Rat’s effect to switch it into Defense Position and Special Summon Wind-Up Shark back from the Graveyard. Next, he reduced his Shark to Level 3 and combined it with his Rat to Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines in Defense Position. He Set Solemn Warning before ending his turn.

 

Valters activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Eckroth’s Solemn Warning. He Set a monster and 2 back rows before passing.

 

Eckroth drew Wind-Up Magician. He activated Heavy Storm. Valters Chained Compulsory Evacuation Device to return Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity to the Extra Deck and then lost his Needle Ceiling to Heavy Storm.

 

Valters Set 2 cards to his back row and passed.

 

Eckroth drew Book of Moon and Set it.

 

Valters flipped Royal Decree and then Flip Summoned Wind-Up Magician. He Normal Summoned Wind-Up Rat, and then activated Monster Reborn to target Eckroth’s Wind-Up Rat and Special Summon it to the field in Defense Position. Eckroth used Book of Moon to put Eckroth’s Rat face-down.

 

Eckroth drew Mystical Space Typhoon and used it to destroy Valters’s face-down Solemn Warning. Then he switched Zenmaines into Attack Position. He Summoned Wind-Up Magician next. He used Wind-Up Zenmaines to attack and destroy the Rat that Valters revived with Monster Reborn and then used Wind-Up Magician to attack and destroy Valters’s Wind-Up Magician. Eckroth used Monster Reborn to revive Wind-Up Rat and then used its effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Magician from his Graveyard.

 

Valters Set a monster and passed.

 

Eckroth drew Tour Guide From the Underworld and Summoned it. He activated its effect to Special Summon another Tour Guide from his Deck and then combined both Tour Guides to Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity. He detached an Xyz Material to Special Summon Wind-Up Rabbit from his Deck and then used his Rabbit’s effect to banish his Rat. His Magician’s effect activated and he Special Summoned Wind-Up Shark from his Deck. Eckroth combined Wind-Up Magician and Wind-Up Shark to Summon Photon Papilloperative and detached Shark to switch Valters’s face-down Rat into Attack Position and reduce its Attack Points to 0. Zenmaines attacked and destroyed the Rat, and then Photon Papilloperative attacked Valters’s face-down Snowman Eater. Snowman Eater destroyed Zenmaity.

 

Valters Set a back row.

 

Eckroth drew Wind-Up Factory. He returned Wind-Up Rat to his field in his Standby Phase and then activated Wind-Up Factory. He used his Rat’s effect to Summon Wind-Up Shark from his Graveyard and then used his Factory’s effect to grab another Rat from his Deck. He changed it into a Level 3 monster and then combined his Shark with his Rat to Summon Number 20: Giga-Brilliant. He detached an Xyz Monster from Giga-Brilliant to boost the ATK of his monsters, and then direct attacks from Wind-Up Zenmaines, Photon Papilloperative, Number 20: Giga-Brilliant, and Wind-Up Rabbit wiped out Valters’s 6500 Life Points!

Duel Three

 

 

Valters started off Duel 3 by Summoning Thunder King Rai-Oh and Setting a card to his back row.

 

Eckroth opened up with Wind-Up Shark, Wind-Up Rat, Mystical Space Typhoon, Solemn Warning, Solemn Judgment, and Wind-Up Factory. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon, Solemn Warning, and Solemn Judgment before ending his turn.

 

Valters attacked directly with Rai-Oh to drop Eckroth down to 6100 Life Points.

 

Valters Summoned Wind-Up Rabbit in Main Phase 2 and then activated Messenger of Peace. He Set another back row before ending his turn.

 

Eckroth drew Maxx “C” next turn. He Summoned Wind-Up Rat and then Special Summoned Wind-Up Shark from his hand. He flipped his face-down Mystical Space Typhoon to target Valters’s Mystical Space Typhoon and Valters Chained it to destroy Solemn Judgment. Eckroth reduced his Shark to Level 3 and combined it with his Rat to try to Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines; but Eckroth sent Thunder King Rai-Oh to the Graveyard to negate its Summon.

 

Valters paid 100 Life Points to keep Messenger of Peace on the field. Then he Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect. Eckroth Chained Maxx “C” from his hand. Valters Special Summoned Sangan from his Deck, and Eckroth drew Wind-Up Factory off of the effect of Maxx “C”. Valters attacked directly with Sangan, Tour Guide From the Underworld, and Wind-Up Rabbit to drop Eckroth down to 2700 Life Points.

 

Eckroth drew Mind Control. He activated Wind-Up Factory and then used Mind Control to take control of Valters’s Wind-Up Rabbit. He activated the Rabbit’s effect to banish it from the Duel and then used both Factories to add Wind-Up Rabbit and Wind-Up Shark from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned his Rabbit and Special Summoned his Shark. Rabbit attacked and destroyed Tour Guide, dropping Valters down to 7500 Life Points.

 

Valters paid 100 Life Points to keep Messenger of Peace on the field and then switched Sangan into Defense Position. He Set a card to each zone and passed. In his End Phase, Eckroth activated the effect of his Rabbit to banish it and search his Deck for a Wind-Up Magician and Wind-Up Shark to add to his hand with his Factories.

 

Eckroth returned both Rabbits to his field in the next Standby Phase, and Valters’s Rabbit immediately returned to him. He Normal Summoned Wind-Up Magician and then Special Summoned Wind-Up Shark from his hand. He used his Magician’s effect to Summon Wind-Up Magician in Defense Position.

 

 

Eckroth raised both Sharks to Level 5 and tried to Summon Wind-Up Arsenal Zenmaioh; but Valters activated Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Eckroth used the effect of his Rabbit to banish it and then activated both of his Wind-Up Factories to add Wind-Up Rat and Wind-Up Rabbit from his Deck to his hand. He used his Wind-Up Magician to Special Summon another Magician. Then he combined his 3 on-field Magicians to Xyz Summon Number 16: Shock Master! He detached an Xyz Material from Shock Master to stop all monster effects. Eckroth Set Solemn Warning to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Valters paid 100 Life Points to keep Messenger of Peace on the field. He Set a monster and passed.

 

Eckroth returned Wind-Up Rabbit to his field in his next Standby Phase. He Summoned Wind-Up Rat and used its effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Shark from his Graveyard. He used his Factory’s effect to add Wind-Up Rabbit from his Deck to his hand. Next, he combined his Rat with his Rabbit to Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity. He detached Rabbit from Zenmaity to Special Summon Wind-Up Rat from his Deck and then used his Rat’s effect to Special Summon Shark from his Graveyard. He raised both of his Sharks to Level 5 and then Xyz Summoned Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon by combining them. He detached a Shark from Adreus to destroy Messenger of Peace. Then he used Shock Master to stop all monster effects. Finally, he attacked with Shock Master; but Valters flipped Mirror Force to wipe out all of Eckroth’s Attack Position monsters!

 

 

Valters Flip Summoned Snowman Eater and combined it with Sangan to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines in Attack Position. He Flip Summoned Wind-Up Magician next, and then Normal Summoned Wind-Up Rat. He attacked Wind-Up Rat with Wind-Up Rabbit to destroy it, and then direct attacks from Wind-Up Rat, Wind-Up Magician, and Wind-Up Zenmaines finished Eckroth off!
