13-year-old Nicole Tipple from New Jersey is Dueling against 15-year-old James Chow from New York in our Round 9 Feature Match! Tipple is using an Agents Deck against Chow’s Hieratics. Both of these Duelists are currently 6-2 in the tournament, so they’ll each need a victory in this round if they hope to maintain a strong shot at a Top 32 finish!

Duel One

Chow started off Duel 1 by just drawing a card in his Draw Phase and ending his turn.

Tipple opened up with Mystical Space Typhoon, Dark Hole, Herald of Orange Light, Master Hyperion, Tragoedia, and Mystical Shineball.

Like Chow, she passed without making a play.

Chow Normal Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Eset and Tributed it to Special Summon Hieratic Dragon of Nebthet. Then he Special Summoned Wattaildragon from his Deck with Eset’s effect, and activated Hieratic Seal of Convocation to add Hieratic Dragon of Su from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Su by Tributing Hieratic Dragon of Nebthet, and used Nebthet’s effect to Special Summon another Wattaildragon from his Deck. He combined both Wattaildragons to Xyz Summon Hieratic Dragon King of Atum. He detached an Xyz Material from it to activate its effect, but Tipple discarded Herald of Orange Light and Mystical Shine Ball from her hand to negate and destroy Atum with her Herald’s effect. Chow attacked directly with Hieratic Dragon of Su, and after Tipple dropped down to 5800 Life Points, she Special Summoned Tragoedia from her hand.

Tipple drew Tour Guide From the Underworld next turn! She activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Chow’s face-down Forbidden Lance, and Chow Chained it to weaken Tragoedia by 800 ATK. Next, Tipple Normal Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon another copy from her Deck.

She combined both Tour Guides to Xyz Summon Number 17: Leviathan Dragon from her Extra Deck and then detached a Tour Guide from Leviathan Dragon to give it 500 extra ATK. Number 17: Leviathan Dragon attacked and destroyed Su, and then Tipple ended her turn.

Chow Special Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit and then activated Hieratic Seal of Convocation to add Hieratic Dragon of Su to his hand. He Special Summoned it by Tributing Tefnuit and then used Tefnuit’s effect to Special Summon Wattaildragon from his Graveyard. He combined Wattaildragon and Su to Summon Hieratic Dragon King of Atum and detached an Xyz Material from it to activate its effect and Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Deck in Defense Position. Next, he used his Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Wattaildragon from his Graveyard in Attack Position. Then he returned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his field to his hand to Special Summon Genex Ally Birdman, and banished Atum to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon back to the field. He used his Darkness Metal Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Tefnuit back from his Graveyard. Next, Chow combined Tefnuit with Wattaildragon to Xyz Summon Hieratic Dragon King of Atum, and detached an Xyz Material from it to Special Summon Hieratic Dragon of Eset. Chow upgraded Atum into Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger next, and then Tuned Eset with Genex Ally Birdman to Synchro Summon Stardust Dragon. Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon attacked and destroyed Leviathan Dragon, and then Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger attacked over Tragoedia, destroying it and dealing 1400 points of piercing damage. Finally, a direct attack from Stardust Dragon dropped Tipple down to 1600 Life Points.

Tipple drew Thunder King Rai-Oh next turn. With only a Dark Hole, Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Master Hyperion in her hand, she was helpless against Chow’s field with a Stardust Dragon on it.

Duel Two

Tipple opened up Duel 2 with Tragoedia, Mystical Shine Ball, Chaos Sorcerer, Master Hyperion, Call of the Haunted, and The Agent of Creation – Venus. She Summoned Venus to the field and activated its effect twice to Special Summon 2 copies of Mystical Shine Ball from her Deck by paying 1000 Life Points. Next, she combined her Shine Balls to Xyz Summon Gachi Gachi Gantetsu in Defense Position.

Chow passed without making a play.

Tipple drew Tour Guide From the Underworld. She Summoned it to the field and activated its effect; but Chow negated it by discarding Effect Veiler from his hand. Next, Tour Guide attacked Chow directly for 1400 points of damage, and then Venus attacked directly to drop Chow down to 4600 Life Points. Tipple Set Call of the Haunted before ending his turn.

Chow Special Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit and then Normal Summoned Koa’ki Meiru Drago. Drago attacked and destroyed Tour Guide. Chow Set 2 cards to his back row and revealed Hieratic Dragon of Nebthet from his hand in the End Phase in order to keep his Drago on the field..

Tipple drew Solemn Warning and then attacked Koa’ki Meiru Drago with Venus; but Chow used Forbidden Lance in the Damage Step to weaken Venus. Venus was destroyed in battle, and Tipple dropped down to 5800 Life Points. Tipple Set Solemn Warning before ending her turn, and Chow destroyed her face-down Solemn Warning with Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase.

Chow attacked Gachi Gachi Gantetsu with Tefnuit, not realizing Gachi Gachi Gantetsu had 2200 DEF, and he lost 100 Life Points. In his End Phase, he revealed Nebthet to keep his Drago on the field.

Tipple drew Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning next turn. Her hand was packed with DARK and LIGHT monsters that she couldn’t Special Summon while Drago was on the field, so she was forced to end her turn without making a play.

Chow Tributed Drago to Tribute Summon Nebthet and then used its effect to Tribute Tefnuit and attempt to destroy Gachi Gachi Gantetsu, costing it an Xyz Material. Chow Special Summoned Wattaildragon from his Deck with the effect of his Tributed Tefnuit. Next, he Tributed Nebthet to Special Summon Hieratic Dragon of Su from his hand. He Special Summoned Wattaildragon with his Tributed’s Nebthet’s effect, and then combined his Wattaildragons to Summon Hieratic Dragon King of Atum. He detached an Xyz Material from Atum to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon in Defense Position from his Deck, then used his Darkness Metal Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit from his Graveyard. Next, he combined Su with Tefnuit to Summon Inzektor Exa-Beetle. He equipped it with the Nebthet in his Graveyard and then sent Nebthet and Gachi Gachi Gantetsu to the Graveyard by using Exa-Beetle’s effect. Next, he upgraded Atum and Exa-Beetle into 2 copies of Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger. Finally, he activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Koa’ki Meiru Drago from his Graveyard! Direct attacks from Drago and both Dragon Chargers finished Tipple off!
