Welcome to Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Providence, Rhode Island
Since September 1st, three Advanced Format Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series tournaments have come and gone. Each crowned a new Champion, and each played a signature Deck that they themselves worked to perfect. Joshua Graham was the first, winning YCS Toronto with Wind-Ups. Angel Flores took YCS Guatemala – his third YCS win – with a HERO Deck, the same strategy that won him YCS Anaheim in 2011. And finally, Junior Dorcin triumphed at YCS Indianapolis just four weeks ago, taking Six Samurai to a shocking win.
Championship Dueling returns to Providence Rhode Island this weekend, and the field is wide open! Not only have three different decks taken three consecutive Championships, but everything from Geargia and Gadgets, to Chaos Dragons, Inzektors, and beyond have had strong finishes over the past months. With so many different Decks doing so well, the shape of today’s tournament is tough predict. And if our previous Champions’ performances are any indicator, the real lesson is that on the right day, anyone can win with their favorite strategy.
The November 9th release of Abyss Rising is just days away, but for now, the biggest new release hitting competition this weekend is the all-new Rise of the Sea Emperor Structure Deck. The new Atlantean monsters are proving to be hugely popular on the tournament floor this morning, with Duelists running everything from Genex Undine and Abyss Soldier, to HERO variants and Synchro strategies. While Abyss Rising will bring Atlanteans into peak form, players clearly can’t wait to dive into the new theme. Will Atlanteans make an impact here in Providence? We’ll find out over the course of the weekend.
Beyond all the hubbub of the main event, this is a very special YCS. No fewer than seven voice actors from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, and the original Yu-Gi-Oh! TV series have come together to raise funds for Dan Green, the voice of Yami Yugi. Voice talent like Greg Abbey (Yusei Fudo), Darren Dunstan (Pegasus), and Erica Shroeder (Akiza and Mai Valentine) will be answering Q&A’s in panels all weekend; signing for fans in autograph sessions; and even performing in-character for Scripted Duels… including the first-ever 3-on-2 Scripted Duel! Lucky competitors will even get a chance to walk away with a piece of Dueling history: an exclusive game mat featuring characters from classic Yu-Gi-Oh! and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, offered in special Charity Win-A-Mat tournaments. This weekend is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for diehard Duel-fans!
In an era where individual style is so important, and personal experience with one’s favorite strategy seems to make all the difference, anything can happen. The Rhode Island Convention Center is abuzz with gossip and speculation, and everyone is wondering what will win this weekend. With 1154 Duelists in the main event, will we see a repeat from Wind-Ups, HERO, or Six Samurai? Will one of the popular strategies that’s come so close to Championship glory the past few weeks finally capture the gold? Or will something completely unexpected sneak into the top tables and steal the whole thing?
And who’s going to win that epic 3-on-2 Duel?!
We’ll bring you all the answers right here, from YCS Providence!
It’s Time to Duel!
