Round 2 Feature Match: Alexander Thomas versus Andrew Foley

November 17th, 2012

Portland, Oregon’s Alexander Thomas surprised everyone recently by making the top cut of a Regional with a Madolche Deck. He’s packing his delicious Deck once again, now with new Madolche cards from Abyss Rising! His opponent is Andrew Foley from Bremerton, Washington. He’s looking for victory today with his Chaos Dragons.

Duel 1

Thomas began with Madolche Magileine, adding another Magileine to his hand. He activated Madolche Chateau next, then Set a card to his back row.

Foley started with Darkflare Dragon, Maxx “C”, Effect Veiler, 2 Solar Recharges, and Lightpulsar Dragon. He Set the Maxx “C”, knowing it wouldn’t be very useful against a Madolche Deck.

Thomas Normal Summoned Magileine, and Foley negated it with Effect Veiler. Thomas stacked his Magileines for Madolche Queen Tiaramisu! He used Tiaramisu’s effect, detaching Magileine and targeting it. It returned to the hand thanks to Chateau, and Tiaramisu’s effect returned Foley’s Maxx “C” to the Deck. Tiaramisu attacked, and Thomas Set another back row.

Foley drew another Lightpulsar Dragon. He passed.

Andrew Foley

Thomas Normal Summoned Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo! It attacked directly, then Tiaramisu did the same. He Set a third back row.

Foley drew Charge of the Light Brigade! He sent Eclipse Wyvern, Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, and Darkflare Dragon to the Graveyard to add Ryko to his hand, then Eclipse banished Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon! He played Recharge, discarding Ryko to draw Dark Hole and Koa’ki Meiru Drago, then sent Heavy Storm and Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning to the Graveyard. He played Dark Hole to clear the field. He banished Darkflare Dragon and Eclipse to Summon Lightpulsar Dragon, but Thomas had Bottomless Trap Hole. Foley Normal Summoned Drago and attacked directly.

Thomas Normal Summoned Magileine, then used Compulsory Evacuation Device on Drago. With Drago out of the way, Magileine’s direct attack finished Foley off!

Alexander Thomas takes a sweet victory as Andrew Foley’s Deck can’t get going fast enough! The Duelists moved for their Side Decks, and we were quickly underway.

Duel 2

Foley started the second Duel with Forbidden Lance, Night Assailant , Effect Veiler, 2 Lightpulsar Dragons, and Solar Recharge. He Set Assailant.

Thomas Normal Summoned Madolche Mewfeuille. It attacked into Assailant, which survived with its 500 DEF! Assailant destroyed Mewfeuille, which went back to the Deck. Thomas Set two back row.

He activated its effect, detaching Butlerusk and targeting Butlerusk and Chateau. He returned Chateau to his Deck and Butlerusk to his hand (Chateau only affects monsters), then returned Foley’s Lance and Mystical Space Typhoon to the Deck! (Foley could have Chained either of his Quick-Play Spells. However, Tiaramisu does not target with its effect – it chooses what to return when it resolves. If Foley Chained them, Thomas would have returned Lightpulsar to the Deck instead)

Foley drew Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, but had one turn remaining on Swords of Revealing Light. He banished Veiler and Night Assailant  from his Graveyard to Special Summon Darkflare Dragon.
