Round 2 Feature Match: Ronald Duarte vs Jordan Wallace

February 16th, 2013

We’re here with two Flordia Duelists for Round 2! Ronald Duarte is packing Dragunity, capable of making huge turns even on the first turn of the Duel. His opponent is Jordan Wallace, using the brand new Fire Kings who laugh in the face of destruction.

Duel 1

Duarte had a hand of Terraforming, 2 Dimensional Prisons, Dragon Ravine, Threatening Roar, and Dragunity Mystletainn. He played Terraforming to put another Ravine in his hand, and then played it. He used it to discard Roar and add Dragunity Phalanx to his hand. He played his second Ravine, discarding Phalanx to add Dragunity Dux to his hand. He Normal Summoned Dux and equipped it with Phalanx from his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Phalanx and sent it to the Graveyard to Special Summon Mystletainn, re-equipped Phalanx, and Special Summoned it again. He tuned Phalanx to Dux to Synchro Summon Dragunity Knight – Gae Dearg. He used its effect to add Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite to his hand and discard it. He stacked Gae Dearg and Mystletainn for Hieratic Dragon King of Atum, and detached Gae Dearg to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Deck in defense position with 0 ATK and DEF. Its effect Special Summoned Gae Dearg, and that added Mist Valley Baby Roc to his hand, then discarded it. Baby Roc Special Summoned itself, and Duarte tuned it to Gae Dearg for Stardust Dragon. Next, he returned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to his hand to Special Summon Zephyros from the Graveyard. He banished Atum to Special Summon Red-Eyes and used its effect to bring Phalanx back from the Graveyard. He tuned Phalanx to Zephyros for Dragunity Knight – Vajrayana, and equipped Phalanx. He Special Summoned Phalanx and tuned it to Vajrayana for a second Stardust Dragon. Finally, he Set both of his Dimensional Prisons.

What a turn! Duarte had Red-Eyes, 2 Stardust Dragons, 2 Dimensional Prisons, and Dragon Ravine!

Wallace played Heavy Storm and it was negated by Stardust Dragon. He Set a monster, but conceded immediately on Duarte’s turn.

Ronald Duarte

Ronald Duarte creates an unbreakable field on the first turn of the Duel! Can he do it again, or will Jordan Wallace mount a comeback?

Duel 2

Wallace began with Flamvell Firedog and two back row cards.

Duarte had Compulsory Evacuation Device, Torrential Tribute, Bottomless Trap Hole, Terraforming, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Dimensional Prison. No monsters! He Set all of his traps, and lost Compulsory Evacuation Device to Wallace’s Mystical Space Typhoon during the End Phase.

Wallace played Heavy Storm next turn, destroying Duarte’s traps and his own Destruct Potion. He Normal Summoned Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear. Bear attacked directly and its effect Set Fire Formation – Tenki, then Firedog attacked directly as well. In Main Phase 2 Wallace activated the Tenki to add Fire King Avatar Barong to his hand, then Xyz Summoned Steelswarm Roach. He Set a back row card.

Duarte drew Dragunity Mystletainn. He played Terraforming to add Dragon Ravine to his hand. He activated it and lost it immediately to Mystical Space Typhoon! Duarte knew he wouldn’t be coming back from Wallace’s massive advantage, and conceded immediately!

“Two MST and the Heavy! Aahh!!!” Duarte lamented.

Duel 3

Duarte began the final Duel with Torrential Tribute, Compulsory Evacuation Device, Dimensional Prison, Phalanx, and 2 Dux. He Set Phalanx, Prison, and Torrential Tribute.

Wallace blew the traps away with Heavy Storm again! Then, he Normal Summoned Jurrac Guaiba and destroyed Phalanx, then Special Summoned another Guaiba with the first. He Xyz Summoned Evolzar Dolkka and Set two cards in his back row.

Duarte drew another Phalanx. He Set it and Compulsory Evacuation Device.

Wallace Normal Summoned Barong and attacked to destroy Phalanx. Dolkka attacked and was sent packing thanks to Compulsory Evacuation Device. Wallace Set a third back row card.

Duarte drew Forbidden Lance. He Normal Summoned Dux, and Wallace had no response. He equipped Dux with Phalanx, then Special Summoned it. Duarte Synchro Summoned Vajrayana and equipped Phalanx again, then Special Summoned it so he could Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon. Scrap Dragon attacked Barong, and Wallace activated Destruct Potion to try to destroy Barong first, but Duarte used Forbidden Lance on Barong! Barong went down in battle.

Wallace played Onslaught of the Fire Kings! He Special Summoned Fire King High Avatar Garunix from his Deck, then passed. Garunix was destroyed because of Onslaught.

Jordan Wallace

Duarte drew Dragon Ravine, and Garunix returned to the field to destroy Scrap Dragon! Duarte Normal Summoned Dux and equipped Phalanx. He Special Summoned Phalanx and Synchro Summoned Vajrayana, equipping and Special Summoning Phalanx again. Then, he Synchro Summoned Crimson Blader! Crimson Blader destroyed Garunix in battle, and Wallace Special Summoned Barong from his Deck.

Wallace Normal Summoned a second Barong and Xyz Summoned Diamond Dire Wolf, then used its effect to destroy itself and Crimson Blader. In Main Phase 2, he used Monster Reborn to revive Barong.

Duarte drew another Dragon Ravine. He played one and discarded the other to add Dux to his hand. He Normal Summoned it, equipped Phalanx, Special Summoned Phalanx, and Synchro Summoned Gae Dearg. Its effect put Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite into his hand, then into the Graveyard. Duarte Special Summoned Zephyros by returning Dragon Ravine to his hand. When Gae Dearg attacked Barong, Wallace used Horn of the Phantom Beast to win the battle!

Wallace sent Barong to take out Zephyros next, drawing more cards with Horn. He Set a back row card.

Duarte drew Dragunity Legionnaire. He Normal Summoned it to equip Phalanx, then Special Summoned Phalanx so he could Synchro Summon Ally of Justice Catastor, only to lose it to Bottomless Trap Hole!

Wallace attacked with Barong, then used Circle of the Fire Kings to destroy Barong and Special Summon Garunix for the finishing blow!

Jordan Wallace moves ahead with his Fire King Deck!
