Round 10 Feature Match: Paul Cooper vs. Timothy Le

February 18th, 2013

We got a lot of requests for Feature Matches. A lot. Many times, there are really great Decks that we’d love to cover, but we just don’t have enough time or manpower to do it. Other times, we aren’t aware of a great Deck because nobody told us it was there, so it gets passed over.

That brings us to our newest creation, the Feature Match Request Form! Using the FMRF, you can easily get your information to us. That makes it easier for us to find you, and it helps ensure we get the most interesting Feature Matches we can. We wanted to feature the very first person to fill out a FMRF, but he unfortunately dropped from the tournament before we could show off his HERO Deck with techs. So, we moved to the second person, and that’s Paul Cooper from Kansas City, MO, and his Hieratic Deck!

Paul Cooper - Feature Match Request Form Expert

Four Heavy Storms? That’s intriguing, so let’s check it out! Paul’s opponent this round is West Palm Beach, FL’s Timothy Le, packing a Dino Rabbit Deck.  It’s Dinosaurs versus Dragons! It’s Normal Monsters versus Normal Monsters! It’s Day 2 of YCS Miami!

Duel 1

Le began the Duel with Sabersaurus and 2 back row cards.

Cooper started off Sunday with 2 Cardcar D, 2 Hieratic Dragon of Eset, Effect Veiler, and Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit. He Normal Summoned a Cardcar D and used it to draw another Tefnuit and A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon. Wingbeat must have been what he meant by “4 Heavy Storms”! Cooper had to discard Effect Veiler in the End Phase because he had too many cards.

Le Normal Summoned another Sabersaurus and attacked directly with both, dropping Cooper to 4200. In Main Phase 2 Le Xyz Summoned Evolzar Laggia and Set a third back row card.

Cooper drew One Day of Peace. He Special Summoned Tefnuit and lost it to Bottomless Trap Hole, then Special Summoned his other one. That one stuck, and he played A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon! Tefnuit returned to the hand, and Le lost his 2 Mystical Space Typhoons. Cooper used One Day of Peace to draw another Wingbeat and passed.

Le Normal Summoned Jurrac Guaiba and Set 2 back row cards, then passed. He couldn’t do damage under One Day of Peace.

Cooper drew Koa’ki Meiru Drago. He Special Summoned Tefnuit and used Wingbeat on it again, this time prompting Le to use his Laggia’s effect. Cooper Special Summoned Tefnuit once again, then Normal Summoned Eset by Tributing Tefnuit. Tefnuit Special Summoned Wattaildragon from Cooper’s Deck and Eset copied its Level. Cooper stacked his monsters for Hieratic Dragon King of Atum, and Le negated its Summon with Solemn Warning!

Le Normal Summoned another Guaiba and Cooper conceded!

Timothy Le takes the first Duel after getting blasted by A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon multiple times! The Duelists moved to their Side Decks and were ready to Duel again in mere moments.

Duel 2

Cooper started this time with Genex Ally Birdman, Smashing Ground, Hieratic Dragon of Su, Hieratic Dragon of Nebthet, Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit, and Royal Decree. He Set Decree. If his Decree sticks around, he’ll be able to make a huge play next turn!

Le Set three back row cards, and Cooper flipped his Decree in the End Phase!

Cooper drew Torrential Tribute and passed.

Le Normal Summoned Sabersaurus and attacked directly. He Set a fourth back row card.

Timothy Le

Cooper drew another Birdman. He Special Summoned Tefnuit, then Special Summoned Su by Tributing Tefnuit. Tefnuit Special Summoned Luster Dragon #2 from the Deck. Su next Tributed Nebthet from Cooper’s hand to destroy Le’s Macro Cosmos. Nebthet brought out Wattaildragon, and Cooper used his Normal Monsters to Xyz Summon Hieratic Dragon King of Atum, but it was flipped face-down by Book of Moon. Cooper attacked with Su, destroying Sabersaurus.

Le Normal Summoned Rescue Rabbit! He banished it to Special Summon 2 Sabersauruses, then Xyz Summoned Evolzar Laggia. Monster Reborn brought Tefnuit to Le’s side, and Tefnuit attacked into Atum… but Tefnuit’s 2100 ATK couldn’t beat Atum’s 2100 DEF! Le had mentioned that this was his first time Dueling against Hieratics, and it was showing. Le seemed ok with his mistake, though, as Laggia finished Atum off and Soul Taker took care of Su.

Cooper drew Cardcar D. He lost his Smashing Ground to Laggia’s effect, then Cardcar D let him draw 2, but it was no use! Next turn, Le Summoned Sangan and Cooper couldn’t use his Torrential Tribute because of his own Decree!

Timothy Le manages to disrupt the combo power of Hieratics thanks to Dino Rabbit!
