Round 5 Feature Match: Michael Klasel vs. Chalana Bel-Air

February 17th, 2013

It’s Round 5 and we’ve got two more Duelists here for a Feature Match! Michael Klasel is from Dallax, TX, and he’s brought along his Mermail Deck. Chalana Bel-Air is from right here in Miami, FL, using Chaos Dragons. Will Sea Serpents be able to take on Dragons? Let’s find out!

Duel 1

Bel-Air began with a hand of Darkflare Dragon, Lightpulsar Dragon, dad, Maxx “C”, Tour Guide From the Underworld, and Tragoedia. He Normal Summoned Tour Guide and brought Sangan to the field in defense position.

Klasel played Genex Undine, sending Atlantean Dragoons to the Graveyard. He added Genex Controller to his hand, then Dragoons gave him Mermail Abyssmegalo. He discarded Dragoons and Mermail Abysslinde for Abyssmegalo, and Bel-Air chained Maxx “C”. Abyssmegalo hit the field and added Abyss-sphere to Klasel’s hand, and Dragoons added Deep Sea Diva. Abyssmegalo attacked Tour Guide, and Bel-Air dropped Tragoedia! Klasel Set a back row.

Bel-Air drew Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter. He Tributed Sangan to Normal Summon Darkflare Dragon, and Sangan added a new Maxx “C” to his hand. He activated Darkflare’s effect next, sending Lightpulsar Dragon from his hand and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Deck to the Graveyard, banishing Dragoons from Klasel’s Graveyard. He turned Tragoedia into a Level 6 monster, then Special Summoned Dark Armed Dragon! In response to the Summon, Klasel played Abyss-sphere and Bel-Air Chained Maxx “C”. Klasel brought Mermail Abysspike to the field in defense position, and discarded Atlantean Heavy Infantry for its effect. Bel-Air drew Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning off Maxx “C”. Infantry destroyed Dark Armed Dragon, though Abysspike was negated by Abyss-sphere. Bel-Air continued by discarding Ryko and Tragoedia to revive Lightpulsar Dragon. He stacked Lightpulsar Dragon with Tragoedia for Inzektor Exa-Beetle, equipping Sangan from the Graveyard. He detached Lightpulsar Dragon to send Sangan and Abyssmegalo to the Graveyard, and Sangan gave him Effect Veiler. He banished Ryko and Tragoedia to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier, then Xyz Summoned Gaia Drake, the Thunder Charger using Exa-Beetle as a material. With his field of Black Luster Soldier, Gaia Drake, and Darkflare, he was able to wipe out Klasel’s Life Points!

Chalana Bel-Air takes a decisive first Duel! Both Duelists moved to their Side Decks, and Bel-Air showed me his secret tech Side Deck choice: Fiend Comedian!

Duel 2

Klasel began this time with three back row cards.

Bel-Air’s hand was Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, Ryko, Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, Sangan, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Maxx “C”. He Normal Summoned Sangan and attacked directly. Klasel tried to deflect the attack with Abyss-sphere, but Bel-Air used Mystical Space Typhoon to take it out before it could resolve.

Klasel Normal Summoned Genex Undine. He sent Atlantean Dragoons to the Graveyard, and added Genex Controller and Deep Sea Diva to his hand. He passed without attacking Sangan.

Bel-Air drew Lightpulsar Dragon. He Tributed Summoned it using Sangan and added Card Trooper to his hand. Lightpulsar destroyed Undine and Bel-Air passed.

Klasel used Dark Hole, then discarded Diva and Dragoons for Abyssmegalo. Bel-Air chained Maxx “C” again. Klasel Normal Summoned Diva and brought out Marksman, then Tributed Diva for Abyssmegalo. He played Monster Reborn on Dragoons next, and attacked with Marksman. It Special Summoned another Dragoons. Dragoons attacked, and Bel-Air played the Tragoedia he drew with Maxx “C”. Klasel attacked it with his other Dragoons, and used Fiendish Chain to negate its effect and reduce it to 0 DEF! Finally, Abyssmegalo attacked twice to take the win!

Michael Klasel quickly evens the score and we’re going to a third Duel!

Duel 3

Bel-Air began the final Duel with 2 Mystical Space Typhoons, Dark Hole, Effect Veiler, Ryko, and Fiend Comedian. He Set Ryko and passed.

Klasel Normal Summoned Abysspike, pitching Dragoons for its effect. Klasel used his two effects to add Genex Undine and Abyssmegalo to his hand. Abysspike attacked into Ryko, which destroyed it, and Bel-Air sent Solar Recharge, Charge of the Light Brigade, and Darkflare Dragon to the Graveyard. Klasel Set a back row card.

Bel-Air drew Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress. He Summoned it and lost it to Torrential Tribute. He Set Fiend Comedian.

Klasel pitched Marksman and Undine to Special Summon Abyssmegalo, and added Abyss-sphere to his hand. Marksman destroyed Mystical Space Typhoon. Klasel Normal Summoned another Undine next, and sent Marksman to the Graveyard. He got a Genex Controller, and Bel-Air Chained Fiend Comedian to Marksman’s effect, calling heads. He hit heads, and banished Klasel’s entire Graveyard! Klasel continued by attacking with Undine and Abyssmegalo, and Set a back row card.

Bel-Air drew another Fiend Comedian – not so funny right now. He played Mystical Space Typhoon and Klasel Chained Abyss-sphere, getting Mermail Abysslinde. Abysslinde was destroyed along with Abyss-sphere, and he got Abyssmegalo, but Bel-Air just wiped the field with Dark Hole! He Set his Comedian.

Klasel Normal Summoned Genex Controller and attacked, then Set a back row card.

Bel-Air drew Tragoedia and passed.

Klasel attacked and and Bel-Air used Tragoedia, but lost it to Soul Taker in Main Phase 2.

Bel-Air drew Chaos Sorcerer. He banished Tragoedia and Ryko to Summon it, then banished Genex Controller with its effect.

Klasel Normal Summoned Undine and sent Dragoons to the Graveyard. He added Genex Controller and Diva to his hand, and Bel-Air flipped his Fiend Comedian… only to have it negated by Klasel’s Solemn Judgment! Klasel used Call of the Haunted to revive Abyssmegalo. He Tributed Undine for Abyssmegalo’s effect, prompting Bel-Air to use his Effect Veiler. Klasel followed up with Pot of Avarice to return his monsters to the Deck and draw two cards. Abyssmegalo took out Sorcerer.

Bel-Air drew and Set Sangan.

Klasel Normal Summoned Diva and brought out Marksman. He Tributed Marksman for Abyssmegalo, and Marksman blew away Sangan. There was nothing Bel-Air could get with Sangan that would save him, and Klasel attacked to take the Duel and the Match!

Despite the best efforts of the Fiend Comedian, Michael Klasel is victorious with Mermails!
