It’s the start of Constructed play! We’re here with Daniel LaMartina and Theerasak Poonsombat. Both of these competitors put in a great showing yesterday in the Sealed portion of the tournament, but now they’ve got to make their way with their own Decks! LaMartina is using the powerful Chaos Dragon Deck. Poonsombat, who hasn’t played since last year’s YCS Long Beach, is using Fire Fists. “I just read all these cards last night!” He laughed.

Duel 1

Unfortunately, Poonsombat arrived a little too late for Deck registration and received a complimentary Round 1 Game Loss. Because of that, we started off immediately in the second Duel.

Duel 2

Poonsombat began Day 1 with Gene-Warped Warwolf, Dimensional Fissure, and three face-down cards in his back row.

LaMartina had Monster Reborn, Dark Armed Dragon, Eclipse Wyvern, Card Trooper, Tragoedia, and Allure of Darkness. He played Allure to draw Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, and banished Red-Eyes to complete Allure’s effect. He Set Ryko.

Poonsombat played out a second Gene-Warped Warwolf. He attacked with one, and Ryko destroyed Dimensional Fissure, sending Lightpulsar Dragon, Heavy Storm, and Card Trooper to the Graveyard. The second Warwolf attacked, and LaMartina played out his Tragoedia. In Main Phase 2, Poonsombat stacked his Warwolves for Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Tiger King, which Set Fire Formation – Tenki on the field. He played that next, adding Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear to his hand. He detached an Xyz Material from Tiger King to negate Tragoedia’s effect.

LaMartina drew Charge of the Light Brigade! He sent Solar Recharge, Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, and Tragoedia to the Graveyard to add another Lyla to his hand. He played it, and Poonsombat had Solemn Warning to negate it. LaMartina pressed on with Monster Reborn to bring Lyla right back! He used Lyla’s effect to destroy Tenki. Next, he sent Eclipse and Dark Armed Dragon from his hand to the Graveyard to Special Summon Lightpulsar Dragon from the Graveyard! He was unable to use his Eclipse Wyvern’s effect, because he’d already drawn all the choices. Lightpulsar Dragon attacked Tiger King, but fell to Poonsombat’s Mirror Force. In the End Phase, Lyla sent 2 Solar Recharges and Night Assailant to the Graveyard.

Poonsombat played Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear and destroyed LaMartina’s monsters. He Set a second back row card.

LaMartina drew Mystical Space Typhoon and used it to clear Poonsombat’s Fiendish Chain. He played out his last remaining card: Card Trooper. It sent Tour Guide From the Underworld, Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, and Lightpulsar Dragon to the Graveyard and destroyed Bear in battle.

Poonsombat played a second Bear, then revived the Gorz with Monster Reborn! Poonsombat attacked with all of his monsters, wiping out Card Trooper and LaMartina’s Life Points!

Theerasak Poonsombat still has a fighting chance! The Duelists moved to their Side Decks, and we are heading into a third Duel! LaMartina will be playing first this time.

Duel 3

LaMartina’s hand consisted of 2 Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, Lightpulsar Dragon, Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, Eclipse Wyvern, and Heavy Storm. He played Lyla and sent Torrential Tribute, Effect Veiler, and Lightpulsar Dragon to his Graveyard.

Poonsombat had Rescue Rabbit! He banished it to bring out 2 Vorse Raiders. He destroyed Lyla with one, and attacked directly with the second. Next, he stacked them both for Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Tiger King and Set Fire Formation – Tenki on the field, then used that to add Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear to his hand. Finally, he Set three cards in his back row.

LaMartina drew Chaos Sorcerer. He played Lyla and destroyed Poonsombat’s Forbidden Lance. He played Heavy Storm next, and Poonsombat had to use Solemn Judgment to save the rest of his cards. LaMartina discarded Eclipse Wyvern and Chaos Sorcerer to bring Lightpulsar Dragon back from the Graveyard, and Eclipse banished Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon. LaMartina banished Sorcerer and Eclipse to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning! Eclipse added  Red-Eyes back to his hand, and he banished Lightpulsar Dragon to Special Summon it. He used its effect, and it brought out the Lightpulsar Dragon from his hand. Finally, he sent his Black Luster Soldier to attack, and Poonsombat had Mirror Force! The Mirror Force would save his Life Points, but Lightpulsar Dragon still revived Red-Eyes immediately. It destroyed Tiger King, and in Main Phase 2, revived Lightpulsar Dragon. In the End Phase, Lyla sent Mirror Force and 2 Soul Takers to the Graveyard.

Poonsombat used Dark Hole! Lightpulsar Dragon revived Red-Eyes once again, but Poonsombat played Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear and had it destroy Red-Eyes! Bear attacked directly and Set  Fire Formation – Tensu on the field. In Main Phase 2 he played it and Normal Summoned Vorse Raider, then Xyz Summoned a new Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Tiger King! He Set Tenki on the field, then that gave him a new Bear. Finally, he Set a back row card.

LaMartina had no cards left, and drew… Card Trooper. He Set it.

Poonsombat played Bear and had it destroy Trooper, giving LaMartina a Dark Hole. Bear and Tiger King hit directly, dropping LaMartina to 300 Life Points! Bear’s effect put Tenki out, which added a third Bear to Poonsombat’s hand.

LaMartina drew Night Assailant. He cleared the field with Dark Hole, and Set Night Assailant, but the Bear in Poonsombat’s hand ensured his victory!
