Round 3 Constructed Feature Match: Robert Boyajian vs. Edward Rapadas

Newport Beach, CA’s Robert Boyajian back from his Austin Top 16 appearance, looking to get back-to-back tops! He’s facing off with Edward Rapadas from Fresno, CA, in a Mermail mirror match.

Duel 1

Boyajian began with Mermail Abysspike, Mermail Abyssmegalo, 2 Mermail Abysslinde, Mermail Abyssteus, and Atlantean Marksman. He Set Abysslinde.

Rapadas stole it with Mind Control! He played out Atlantean Marksman and attacked directly, allowing Marksman to Special Summon Atlantean Dragoons from his Deck. That attacked as well, then Rapadas Xyz Summoned Wind-Up Zenmaines in defense position. Rapadas Set a back row card to finish.

Boyajian drew Enemy Controller. He played Abysspike, discarding Marksman for its effect. He added Mermail Abyssgunde to his hand, and Rapadas Chained Enemy Controller to put Abysspike in defense position. Boyajian discarded Abysslinde to Special Summon Abyssteus in attack position, and it searched out a new Abysspike. He discarded it immediately, along with Abyssgunde, for Abyssmegalo. He added Abyss-sphere to his hand, and Abyssgunde’s effect revived Abysspike. He used his four monsters to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller and Mermail Abyssgaios! He used Abyssgaios’s effect, and wiped out Dragoons and Zenmaines. Finally, Boyajian Set Abyss-sphere and Enemy Controller. He had no cards left in his hand.

Rapadas played Deep Sea Diva, which Special Summoned Marksman from the Deck. Next, he discarded Dragoons to Special Summon Abyssteus, and Boyajian allowed it. With his two searching effects, he got Abyssgunde and Abyssmegalo. He discarded Abyssgunde and Abysslinde to activate Abyssmegalo’s effect, and Boyajian Chained Abyss Dweller to stop Abyssgunde. Abyssmegalo still his the field, and added Abyss-sphere to Rapadas’s hand. He stacked Abyssmegalo and Abyssteus for his own Abyssgaios. Next, he tuned Diva to Marksman for Ally of Justice Catastor. Abyssgaios attacked Abyss Dweller, but was blocked by Enemy Controller. Rapadas Set his last card, the Abyss-sphere he’d searched out.

Boyajian drew Mind Control. He sent Abyss Dweller to destroy Abyssgaios, then used his own Abyssgaios’s effect to negate Catastor, destroying it in battle. As he was leaving Main Phase 2, Rapadas played Abyss-sphere to bring out Abysslinde. Boyajian was still in Main Phase 2, so he swiped Abysslinde with Mind Control, then used his Abyss-sphere to bring out a mermaid of his own! He Xyz Summoned Zenmaines, robbing Rapadas of his Abysslinde’s effect, and any chance he had of a comeback, and Rapadas conceded immediately!

Robert Boyajian sets up an unbreakable field of Abyssgaios and Abyss Dweller! Rapadas will play first in the next Duel.

Duel 2

Rapadas started with a Set back row card.

Boyajian had Enemy Controller, Vanity’s Fiend, Abyss-sphere, Dragoons, Atlantean Heavy Infantry, and Soul Exchange. He Set Abyss-sphere, but lost it to Mystical Space Typhoon.

Rapadas discarded Mermail Abyssgunde and Mermail Abyssleed for Abyssmegalo. Abyssmegalo searched out Abyss-sphere, and Abyssgunde revived Abyssleed. He Normal Summoned Atlantean Marksman and attacked directly, and brought Atlantean Dragoons to the field. His remaining Sea Serpents attacked, and Boyajian was done for!

Edward Rapadas gets swift vengeance, totally crushing Boyajian in a three turn Duel!

Duel 3

Boyajian started off the final Duel with Abyssleed, Abyssmegalo, Abysslinde, Marksman, and 2 Deep Sea Divas. He Set Abysslinde.

Rapadas stole Abysslinde with Mind Control! He played out Marksman and hit directly, bringing out Dragoons to also attack directly. In Main Phase 2 he used Abysslinde and Marksman to Xyz Summon Zenmaines and Set two back row cards.

Edward Rapadas

Boyajian drew Mermail Abysspike. He played it, discarding Marksman for its effect. He added Mermail Abyssgunde to his hand. Marksman targeted a back row card, but Rapadas Chained it: Abyss-sphere. He Special Summoned Abysslinde in defense position. Boyajian continued by discarding Abyssleed and Abyssgunde for Abyssmegalo. He added Abyss-sphere to his hand, and Special Summoned Abyssleed. He entered his Battle Phase, with Abyssmegalo destroying Dragoons. Abysspike took out Abysslinde, and Rapadas Special Summoned Abysspike. He discarded Dragoons for its effect, and added Abyssgunde and Atlantean Heavy Infantry to his hand. Boyajian Xyz Summoned Number 11: Big Eye in Main Phase 2 and stole Abysspike, then stacked it with his own for Abyss Dweller. He Set Abyss-sphere, but lost it to Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase.

Rapadas discarded Abysspike, Abyssgunde, and Heavy Infantry for the Abyssleed in his hand! Boyajian Chained Abyss Dweller, but Abyssleed still was able to add Abyss-sphere back to Rapadas’s hand. He turned Zenmaines to attack position and crashed it into Abyss Dweller, saving it with its effect. Abyssleed took out Big Eye. Rapadas Set his Abyss-sphere he’d gotten back, and in the End Phase, Zenmaines destroyed Abyss Dweller.

Boyajian drew Vanity’s Fiend. He played Deep Sea Diva and brought Atlantean Heavy Infantry to the field, then Normal Summoned his second Diva! That Special Summoned Atlantean Marksman. He tuned Diva to Marksman for Ally of Justice Catastor and his id destroy Abyssleed. Then, he Xyz Summoned Gachi Gachi Gantetsu.

Rapadas Set a second card to his back row.

Boyajiand drew Pot of Avarice! He returned Big Eye, Abyss Dweller, Abyssmegalo, Abyssgunde, and Marksman to his Main and Extra Decks, then drew Vanity’s Fiend and Dark Hole. Catastor took out Zenmaines with a combination of its effect and battle. In Main Phase 2, Boyajian Tributed Catastor for Vanity’s Fiend!

Rapadas had his own Pot of Avarice! He returned Abysslinde, Heavy Infantry, Dragoons, and 2 Abysspike for two new cards… and one of them was Dark Hole! Gachi Gachi survived with its effect, and Rapadas had no other plays.

Boyajian drew Monster Reborn! He played it, targeting Catastor, and Rapadas Chained Maxx “C”. Boyajian Tributed Gachi Gachi for his second Vanity’s Fiend, and attacked directly with it and Catastor. When Rapadas drew his next card, he offered the handshake!
