Round 4 Constructed Feature Match: Jonny Nagel vs. Thomas Vo

April 7th, 2013

Vo is from Fairfax, VA, and Nagel is from Denver, CO. They played in the middle of Swiss in YCS Miami, and Nagel won

Duel 1

Vo Set two cards to his back row and played Sabersaurus.

Nagel started with 2 Atlantean Marksmen, 2 Mystical Space Typhoons, Mermail Abyssmegalo, and Mermail Abysslinde. He discarded both Marksmen for Abyssmegalo’s effect. It was Summoned, and Vo Chained Torrential Tribute. Nagel still added Abyss-sphere to his hand, and Marksman destroyed Dimensional Prison. He Set Abyss-sphere and a Typhoon.Jonny Nagel

Vo played Heavy Storm, and Nagel Chained Abyss-sphere to bring out Mermail Abysslinde. When Abyss-sphere was destroyed, so was Abysslinde, and Nagel Special Summoned Mermail Abyssleed. Vo Set a back row card.

Nagel drew Atlantean Dragoons. He destroyed Vo’s Mirror Force with Mystical Space Typhoon and played Abysslinde. Abyssleed and Abysslinde attacked directly, then Nagel used Abyssleed’s effect to rob Vo of the Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Bear in his hand!

Vo Set his last two cards to his back row.

Nagel drew another Abysslinde. He played it and attacked with his Mermails to take the first Duel!

Jonny Nagel starts off strong with a double Marksman play, and Vo just can’t get his feet off the ground. Vo will be playing first in the second Duel.

Duel 2

“Let’s try this again,” Vo said, and he started with the same opening as last time: Two back row cards and Sabersaurus.

Nagel opened up with Monster Reborn, Soul Taker, Heavy Storm, Deep Sea Diva, Mermail Abyssmegalo, and Atlantean Marksman. He blew away Debunk and Bottomless Trap Hole with Heavy Storm. He played Diva next, getting a Marksman to the field. He tuned Diva to Marksman for Ally of Justice Catastor and destroyed Sabersaurus.

Nagel drew another Diva, and giggled a little. He played it, bringing out Atlantean Heavy Infantry in defense position, then played Marksman with his extra Normal Summon. He attacked… into Mirror Force! Everything but Heavy Infantry was destroyed.

Vo played Tour Guide From the Underworld, bringing a second Guide to the field. He stacked them for Number 17: Leviathan Dragon and powered it up, then destroyed Heavy Infantry.

Nagel drew Mermail Abyssgunde. He revived Catastor with Monster Reborn and destroyed Leviathan Dragon with it.

Vo Set a back row card.

Nagel drew Abyss-sphere. He swung with Catastor, then Set Abyss-sphere.

Vo passed.

Nagel drew Mystical Space Typhoon. Catastor attacked again, and Vo had 3600 Life Points left. Nagel Set Typhoon.

Vo played Heavy Storm, and Nagel Chained Abyss-sphere, but Vo Chained Maxx “C”! Abyss-sphere brought Mermail Abyssteus to the field, and it was destroyed along with Abyss-sphere (Nagel didn’t want Vo drawing more cards with Maxx “C”, so he didn’t make an Abysslinde play). Vo passed.

Nagel drew Mermail Abyssleed. He discarded it and Abyssgunde for Abyssmegalo. Abyssmegalo added Abyss-sphere to his hand, and Abyssgunde Special Summoned Abyssleed. Nagel’s monsters finished Vo off!

Jonny Nagel’s Mermails are victorious over Thomas Vo’s Fire Fists!
