Kenneth Cardez from Queens, New York is Dueling against Robert Scarpelli from Chicago, Illinois in a Round 2 Feature Match that will pit Cardez’s Fire Fists against Scarpelli’s Mermails. Cardez has been playing the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME since 2002, and says that it has allowed him to travel, meet amazing friends, and participate in a hobby that is fun, challenging, and rewarding. Now, he’s dedication to the game will be memorialized in this Feature Match. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Scarpelli started off Duel 1 by discarding Mermail Abysslinde to Special Summon Mermail Abyssteus in Defense Position, and used the effect of Mermail Abyssteus to add Mermail Abyssgunde from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Mermail Abysspike and used its effect to discard Mermail Abyssgunde and add Genex Undine from his Deck to his hand. He used the effect of Mermail Abyssgunde to Special Summon Mermail Abysslinde from his Graveyard and then ended his turn with 3 monsters on his field.

Cardez opened up with Fire Formation – Tensu, Tour Guide From the Underworld, Torrential Tribute, Dimensional Prison, Gene-Warped Warwolf, and Rescue Rabbit.

He Summoned Rescue Rabbit and then banished it to Special Summon 2 copies of Gene-Warped Warwolf from his Deck. He combined both copies of Gene-Warped Warwolf to Xyz Summon Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Tiger King and used its effect to Set Fire Formation – Tenki from his Deck. He flipped Tenki to add Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear to his hand, and then activated Fire Formation – Tensu. He used Tensu’s effect to Normal Summon Bear from his hand. Next, he used his Bear’s effect to destroy Abyssteus by sending Tenki to the Graveyard, and then attacked over Abysspike with his 1700 ATK Bear. Abysspike was destroyed and Scarpelli lost 100 Life Points, allowing Cardez to Set Tenki from his Deck with Bear’s effect. Scarpelli moved into Main Phase 2 without attacking the Mermail Abysslinde.

He Set Dimensional Prison and Torrential Tribute before ending his turn.

Scarpelli discarded Atlantean Marksman from his hand to Special Summon Mermail Abyssteus in Defense Position. He used Abyssteus’s effect to add Mermail Abysslinde to his hand and used Marksman’s effect to destroy Cardez’s face-down Torrential Tribute. He Summoned Genex Undine next and activated its effect, sending Atlantean Dragoons from his Deck to his Graveyard to add Genex Controller to his hand. He searched his Deck for a copy of Mermail Abyssmegalo to add to his hand with the effect of Dragoons. Next, Scarpelli discarded Atlantean Heavy Infantry and Atlantean Marksman to Special Summon Mermail Abyssmegalo from his hand. He added Abyss-sphere from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Mermail Abyssmegalo, and destroyed Cardez’s Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear and face-down Tenki with the effects of his Infantry and Marksman. Next, he combined Mermail Abyssteus and Mermail Abyssmegalo to Xyz Summon Number 11: Big Eye in Defense Position. He detached an Xyz Material from Big Eye to take control of Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Tiger King and then attacked directly with Genex Undine. Mermail Abysslinde attacked next, and Cardez banished it with Dimensional Prison. Finally, Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Tiger King attacked, dropping Cardez down to 4600 Life Points. Scarpelli Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Cardez drew Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear next turn. He Summoned Tour Guide and activated her effect to Special Summon another copy of Tour Guide from his Deck. Next, he combined both Tour Guides to Summon Number 17: Leviathan Dragon. He detached an Xyz Material from it to give it 500 ATK and then used Tensu’s effect to Normal Summon Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear from his hand. He attacked and destroyed Genex Undine with Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear, and used Bear’s effect to Set Tenki from his Deck when Scarpelli lost 500 Life Points. Next, Number 17: Leviathan Dragon attacked and destroyed Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Tiger King. In Main Phase 2, Cardez flipped his Tenki and added Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear from his Deck to his hand. He used Bear’s effect next, sending Tenki to the Graveyard to destroy Number 11: Big Eye. Cardez used Abyss-sphere to Summon Mermail Abysslinde in Cardez’s Main Phase 2 and then when Mermail Abysslinde and Abyss-sphere were destroyed in the End Phase, Cardez Special Summoned Mermail Abyssmegalo from his Deck.

Scarpelli activated Allure of Darkness to draw 2 cards and banish Genex Controller from his hand. Next, he activated Salvage to return Atlantean Heavy Infantry and Atlantean Marksman from his Graveyard to his hand. He Normal Summoned Atlantean Heavy Infantry and used its effect to Normal Summon Atlantean Marksman. He used the effect of Mermail Abyssmegalo to Tribute Atlantean Heavy Infantry so that Abyssmegalo could attack twice, and used the effect of his Infantry to destroy Number 17: Leviathan Dragon. Next, he attacked Bear with Abyssmegalo to destroy it. Then, Abyssmegalo attacked directly. Scarpelli followed up with a direct attack from Atlantean Marksman, and used Marksman’s effect to Special Summon Atlantean Dragoons from his Deck. A direct attack from Atlantean Dragoons wiped out the rest of Cardez’s Life Points!

Duel Two

Cardez opened up with Fire Formation – Tenki, Dimensional Prison, Thunder King Rai-Oh, Rescue Rabbit, Prideful Roar, and Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear.

He activated Tenki and used its effect to add Gene-Warped Warwolf to his hand. Next, he Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh and Set Dimensional Prison before ending his turn.

Scarpelli Set a monster and a card to his back row.

Cardez drew another copy of Tenki next turn. He Summoned Rescue Rabbit and banished it to Special Summon 2 copies of Gene-Warped Warwolf from his Deck. Next, he combined both copies to Summon Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Tiger King. He used his Tiger King’s effect to Set Tenki from his Deck. Next, he attacked Scarpelli’s face-down Mermail Abysslinde with his Rai-Oh, destroying it in battle. Scarpelli Special Summoned Mermail Abyssmegalo from his Deck with the effect of Mermail Abysslinde. Cardez detached an Xyz Material from Tiger King in Main Phase 2 to negate Abyssmegalo and Rai-Oh’s effects, and then Set Prideful Roar before ending his turn.

Scarpelli flipped his face-down Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Cardez’s Prideful Roar next turn and then attacked Thunder King Rai-Oh with Abyssmegalo; but Cardez flipped Dimensional Prison to banish Abyssmegalo!

Next, Scarpelli discarded Atlantean Dragoons to Special Summon Mermail Abyssteus. With Rai-Oh’s effect negated by Tiger King, Scarpelli added Mermail Abyssgunde to his hand with Mermail Abyssteus and Mermail Abyssmegalo to his hand with the effect of Atlantean Dragoons. Next, Scarpelli discarded Atlantean Marksman and Mermail Abyssgunde to Special Summon Mermail Abyssmegalo. He added Abyss-sphere from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Abyssmegalo, destroyed a face-down Tenki with Atlantean Marksman, and Special Summoned Mermail Abysslinde from his Graveyard in Defense Position with the effect of Mermail Abyssgunde. He combined Mermail Abyssteus with Mermail Abyssmegalo to Summon Number 11: Big Eye and used its effect to take control of Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Tiger King. He Set a back row before passing.

Cardez drew Mystical Space Typhoon and activated it, targeting Scarpelli’s face-down Abyss-sphere. He Chained it to Special Summon Mermail Abysslinde from his Deck and when Mermail Abysslinde went down with the Abyss-sphere, he Special Summoned Mermail Abyssmegalo from his Deck. Next, Scarpelli Normal Summoned Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear. He sent Tenki to the Graveyard to destroy Big Eye with Bear’s effect, and then combined Bear with Rai-Oh to Summon Number 39: Utopia. He attacked Tiger King with Utopia to destroy it, and then activated Tenki in Main Phase 2 to add Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear from his Deck to his hand. Cardez ended his turn with Number 39: Utopia protecting him against Mermail Abyssmegalo and Mermail Abysslinde.

Scarpelli Summoned Genex Undine next turn and activated its effect by sending Atlantean Heavy Infantry from his Deck to his Graveyard. He added Genex Controller from his Deck to his hand and destroyed Utopia with the effect of Atlantean Heavy Infantry. Next, he Tributed Genex Undine to let Mermail Abyssmegalo attack twice. It attacked directly twice for 4800 points of damage, dropping Cardez down to 3200 Life Points.

Cardez Summoned Bear and destroyed Abyssmegalo by sending Tenki to the Graveyard. He Set Forbidden Lance before ending his turn.

Scarpelli Set a card to each zone and passed right back.

Cardez drew Dimensional Prison. He Summoned Gene-Warped Warwolf and Set the Dimensional Prison before ending his turn.

Scarpelli Flip Summon Snowman Eater to destroy Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear. Next, he Normal Summoned Genex Controller. He combined Genex Controller with Snowman Eater to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines in Attack Position. He attacked Gene-Warped Warwolf with Zenmaines; but Cardez flipped Dimensional Prison and banished Zenmaines.

Cardez drew Pot of Duality next turn. He activated it to reveal Heavy Storm, Mind Crush, and Rescue Rabbit from the top of his Deck. He added Heavy Storm to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck.

Scarpelli Normal Summoned Deep Sea Diva and activated its effect to Special Summon another Diva from his Deck. Next, he activated Abyss-sphere to Special Summon Mermail Abysspike. He Tuned Mermail Abysspike with a Diva to Synchro Summon Dewloren, Tiger King of the Ice Barrier and used Dewloren’s effect. He returned a Diva and an Abyss-sphere to his hand to boost Dewloren to 3000 ATK and then attacked over Gene-Warped Warwolf, destroying it and dropping Cardez down to 2200 Life Points. Cardez Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Cardez drew Mind Crush and conceded next turn with only 2200 Life Points and no way to protect himself.
